2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

I don't know the ins and outs of the club but i can tell you on the 28th of July i got a message saying , Nas staying 2 year deal , TDK done , Aleer Done , Flanders good as Done , Another EX Saints player wanted to come back but i doubt that will happen , then the next day another Bird Told me about how we have been talking with McKenzie's management.
I had messaged a few this info so it can be verified

Yeah but what did SOS have for breakfast today

If Flanders was at a vic club you'd be talking 2 firsts. Last year he was around Jack Sinclair level and just hit 25. If he was at the Saints we'd absolutely melt if we weren't getting 2 very good picks back. I wanted him from seeing him play VFL. He looked ridiculous, then they started putting him in the side and his value skyrocketed.

You'd find it hard to get two players as close on every stats but Flanders still ahead on nearly every one of them.
Exact type of mid we were missing, can find the ball (All of our mids apart from Macrae can’t), is clean (All of our mids apart from Macrae can’t), has composure and good skills (dito again). Get him in..

Nah mate. I believe you.

Was more pointing out that I think the club was in a lot more control than the media played out.

Supporter base obviously suffered. But from everything said - it seems like our hierarchy was across the entire situation.

More than happy with TDK! I think he has tremendous upside, and if we have read the tea leaves right with the sub rule and hopefully for our sake a change to the rruck rule, he could become the premier ruck in the competition - worth every $ of our unused salary cap from the last few years ;).

JSOS - I am not sold - injured, 28 this year - seeking a 4 year deal I think? I get he is a free agent, and we can acquire him as well as build via the draft. I am of the view Aleer is a better fit (if we are comparing the two) despite the draft capital that will be needed to acquire. 24 YO with 2-3 years under Boris and growing with the rest of the team is right in our sweet spot.

I have no doubt all of these players will make us better immediately, but is that what we are after? I want sustained success with generational players - think Brisbane of today. 7 finals campaigns straight and no signs of slowing down - the players we acquire need to fit that strategy.

An ex saints player wants to come back to play or coach?

Who is out there? Billings, Acres, Gresham, Cripps, Long, Battle, Membrey...

Only ones we'd consider would be Long o Battle but they're not coming back lol.

Going to throw this out there.

But if we miss on Cmac. I could see Ross - with his past history in players.

Looking at Elijah Hollands.
Yeah , the kid can play and what's to lose

If Geelong can turn kids around why can't we

The ones saying they'd rather Aleer over JOS or vise versa, that's a fair statement. The reality is if JOS comes to the saints we will have both on the list next year. The deal for Aleer would already have been agreed to we can't back out now, that's just poor business and unethical. So if JOS come's they'll both be in our backline 2026.

Now we can trade picks 2 years in advance, that opens up a lot more possibilities and if players in contract do nominate us we do have the picks to make it happen. For instance if we get Flanders, Cmac and Ryan to nominate us we have the draft capital to get it done without losing Marshall and Steele. If that's the path we decide to go down.

Ps , even if we got CMac , Hollands would be cheap i guess ? He is contracted until end of next year , im guessing they just want him gone

Yeah they do.

Don’t know if we add him - if we sign everyone. But I would be keeping a side eye on him in the event Cmac doesn’t eventuate.

Ross insinuated that if Nas didn’t sign that TDK wasn’t happening.

What makes you think we won’t walk away from Aleer if we rate JSOS higher?

I genuinely can’t work out how they would all fit if we grabbed them all and a 25 year old Aleer and 27 year old JSOS are only coming to play AFL football.

Just found a weird coincidence after doing a tiny bit of 2019 draft research.

SOS actually traded pick 11 to Suns after Flanders slid out of the top 10. Trade was pick 11 (Flanders) & 60 (Farrar) for 17 (Kemp) & 21 (Philp).

Then a month later in December he quit Carlton. The Blues said it was due to a conflict of interest as his sons played there...

A months take it to roughly the week after the Melbourne win. So that's just as we were upping the offer again so good on him for staying quiet.

Also impressive a bunch of our players knew a few days before it was announced and it stayed quiet. Well done everyone on that.
But but but Tom Morris said two hours before the announcement that nobody knows and if they said they did they were lying.
