2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Love Keeping Rowan, feel bad at trading Jack (esp to a club controlled by the Cho)

Zones is still here and Jack gone doesn't make sense to me

Happy we didn't get a leek
Flanders and Ryan big ticks

Zones on 2/10 **** all money and a clear 2s player.

Steele on more coin and has a rep for playing seniors when RTB clearly has him in the ressies going forward.

Good move for all parties IMO and helps our rep as a fair club to deal with.

Has been reported for a long time that Steele's deal was back ended. Agree with your comments. More than happy for a young Flanders as an upgrade on an older Steele, despite having the utmost respect for Steele. I believe too many people focus on draft picks swapped for players, when the whole package needs to be taken into account. Even if Steele has injury luck and a good career at Demons, doubtful his output matches the wage we have pushed out.

Yes stiff for Steele to go, but the reality is that is that in 2026 his senior appearances would have been minimal.

Macrae right now is better than Steele, and in 2026 there would only be room at most for one of them in the 23. And is also competing against Windy who has become our best tagger/negating mid when that role is required.

Nas, Flanders, Hall, Garcia, Windy, Phillipou and Boxshall. And then Wilson and Henry as outside linking mids

Clark may play HB or mid.

And Dow, and perhaps Carrol for depth.

Plus we may draft the young Fincher who will be more for our future.

That is the best midfield unit we have had for a long, long period. And they get to work with TDK and Marshall.

If some of our younger mids can step up a notch or two, watch out.

If you read the quote from Ross about holding onto contracted players, he was actually quoting Chris Scott and the Cat's mantra. Thanks for the advice
Sad to see Steele go. He's been a heart and soul player. The blow was lessened a little for me with him landing at Melbourne with their weakened midfield. Would've been pissed off if he went to Essendon and Roma to the Cats. My two most hated clubs these days

How smug is Mackie implying that we somehow changed our minds and decided not to trade him.

We would have done the deal for the right price which they refused to pay. They offered all their firsts for Curnow yet coudn't find a F1 for Marshall? He should feel let down by them, their offer was junk and got treated the way it deserved.
Two years in a row as well

Not our job to make opposition teams stronger with contracted players

But Aleer is on suicide watch D-
Ralph just going on about it again. We cost him $2m. wth

And again, he says $750k pa. That just cannot be correct that he was offered $375k guaranteed and $375k incentives. Imagine 40 players on anywhere that type of structure - you’d be just guessing where you land against the cap.

Mackie is an insufferable moron

They did not do all they could. Rowan has been severely undervalued by all. He is a warrior and exactly what they need and the only ruck available. Three firsts for Charlie but just one junk for Ro? Arrogance personified and they have got their comeuppance this trade period. GAGF Mackie.

TDk
JSOS
Flanders
Ryan

Most likely Fincher

And still have next years 1st

Thats A+

It should be a much better and more rounded side we put up most weeks next year and we have finally put up a decent pool of high end talent.

Elite- *Nas and I'm calling *Hall to get there.

A grade- Sinclair, Marshall, Macrae, Wilkie

B- *Flanders, *Windy, *Owens, Hill, Wood, Higgins, *King, Sharman, *Phillipou, Ryan, JSOS, *Wilson etc.

Depth- *Dow, Stocker, Clark, *Henry, *Caminiti, Howard, Carroll etc.

Youth- *Tauru, *Travaglia, *Garcia, *Boxshall, *Dodson, *Collard, *Keeler, *Hastie, *Collard, *LOC etc.

Players with an * have potential to substantially improve.

Our list is strengthened tonight (arguments of ceiling aside).

Hawthorn's is weakend (one Will Day injury from a bottom 6 midfield). Geelong not moved forward and a lot of question marks. Should (will they?) get a tough fixture. Adelaide same same. Tough fixture. Injuries?

Over to the pre season thread...

But before I do. Thanks Jack Steele
You're a loved Saint. Good luck with Melbourne.

To sum up, the arrogance of Geelong and Hawthorn bit them in the ass this year, you love to see it.

Essendon should be as dysfunctional as ever, fine by me.

Player managers and their inflated egos took a solid whack.

Steele is a bitter pill to swallow, but we'll wait and see how the midfield functions next year. Otherwise very happy with all of our trades.

Ross and co will have no excuses next year, flashed some cash and picks for some mature recruits. Time to deliver.

Correct me if I’m wrong but pretty sure that leaves us with 3 spots on the senior list?

Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s Fincher plus elevating Hammer & Hall.
Which leaves us 4 rookie spots.

(And sorry if something like this has already been posted)

Didn't hear what he said but fair enough.

Asking for 16 for Ah Chee is a bit rich. Good solid player who the Lions got for a second rounder.

Those campaigners don't need another leg up.
I thought he came across as incredibly unprofessional. Have your grievances but deal with it behind closed doors.

I was fortunate enough to meet Jack Macrae on the weekend. Very nice guy. He said he liked the players we had brought in and he thinks we can play finals next year.
