2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

We must see ourselves going decent next year.

If Hawks, Adelaide and GWS got significantly better the last 10 days, I think we would've pulled the trigger on Marshall.
With these teams staying around the same mark, maybe our projections have moved forward a year.

Brisbane unfortunately get better again though.
Hopefully challenge this year and attract a couple others to put us over the top next year.

Our forward line looks really good now

Hall/Phillipou - King - Owens
Ryan - Sharman - Higgins

Depth - Butler, Marshall/TDK, Keeler, Henry, Wood
Backline doesn't do too bad either, without maybe the good depth:

Sinclair JSOS Nas/Flanders
Wilkie Howard Tauru

Depth/rotations - Caminiti, Hastie, Clark, Stocker, Travalia

I think we're one elite mid, natural development, and a full season from King away from really competing for a flag. I also think that that elite mid could come from within, i.e. Philippou, Wilson or Boxshall

It wasn’t a F1. It was this years first.
Sorry if it’s been posted, I’m a bit behind.

But Tom Morris said in the dying minutes Geelong offered pick 40 + F1 2026 + something in 2027.

Apparently our blokes didn’t even blink. Rejected it within seconds as being inadequate.

Fluffing around with minor picks anchored around a first. Honestly, what rubbish.

Pathetic from Mackie. Weak. Stingy.

They needed Marshall. Badly. Just stump up and pay. Get the player. Why worry about offering a pick in the 40s or a minor pick in the 2027 draft?

A big fail for Geelong.

Old school trading in a new world. They only want players in and not trade any of significance out. If all clubs have finally come to the conclusion that trading your good players for an 18 year old is bad business then the competition will be better off.

King is still the biggest addition for us next year. absolute game changer, him and Nas need to develop same big team chemistry this offseason.

Teams also won't be able to just send 2 defenders to him because we have no other threatening talls, Rowan will demand an honest tall defender paying him close attention. Over the journey the amount of clubs who send their best defender to King then play a loose defender in front of him or just straight up double team him has affected his influence. Forward line is going to be a very different prospect next year (fingers crossed).

King, Marshall, Owens, Sharman, Ryan, Higgins, Collard (?), Butler (?) Tauru (?). I think those last 3 are probably competing to be the 7th forward/rotation, or maybe we leave Tauru in defence?

The other thing I'm excited about is seeing the development of some of the newer faces through the midfield for us in scoring. Brisbane just won the flag with a 21 year old and 19 year old pair of forwards who contributed without starring and a bunch of midfielders and part time forward/mid players kicking goals.

Nas, Hall, Pou, Henry, Wilson. Do these guys rotate through the forward line? Do they become (or in some cases increase on their current level) goal kicking midfield/wing options? Can see Henry if his body holds up being a part time forward and part time mid. Can see Nas and Hall becoming a goal a game midfielders and Pou a bit of hybrid mid/forward.

Exciting times.

Yep saw that on here recently. But not as the trade bell went.
You are 💯 correct though.

Exactly, wanting to trade in Merrett and not wanting to lose CMac as well as Marshall/Curnow but not wanting to lose SDK is just old school thinking and really, heads should roll at those two clubs.

You don't add in a whole year of picks to be traded, whilst courting contracted guns, and not expect to give up more than previous years in trades.

Massive fumble, massive massive fumble.

Windy could easily be in it too. Nas over shadowed him but Windy was the next most improved youth player. King if fit almost certain to be A grade too. So many kids have a huge amount of growth left in them.
Dear Mr Gringo

Please go and have a very , very nice long holiday.

You are absolutlely a heart and soul supporter. But I seriously worry about how you ( & many more of us) deal with our all to frequent down times.

This has absolutely been our best off season for ****ing years. Obviously the draft is a low priority so let us all wallow in some hope for as long as we can.

Absolutely looking forward to pre-season training reports, and happy to stay as positive as possible until round 2 next year.

Has been reported for a long time that Steele's deal was back ended. Agree with your comments. More than happy for a young Flanders as an upgrade on an older Steele, despite having the utmost respect for Steele. I believe too many people focus on draft picks swapped for players, when the whole package needs to be taken into account. Even if Steele has injury luck and a good career at Demons, doubtful his output matches the wage we have pushed out.
It would make sense with the deal, but source on the back ending?

Yeah Ross had a swipe at them for coming late and effectively wasting a week.
