2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

Just to get one thing straight. Hawks cause mass cultural disruption in two teams trying to pry their captains out, fail miserably to do so, and we're the ones dragged over hot coals for 25 gamer Leek Aleer?!

Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN

As Ross said.

No one has all the details of what Happened except for us.

Ah Chees manager not afraid to rubbish Brisbane publicly.
this was probably the one that should have attracted more criticism. he won them a flag. they just won another. let the guy go home to family.

he informed them mid year for crying out loud.

If you look at the decision not to sign Aleer and then trade Jack for a nothing pick, to clear his money off the cap. It seems like an out of contract or free agent opportunity is in the pipeline.
Hey Mr Montagna

I don’t appreciate you gooning us with this info and not revealing the name I’m sure ur very well aware about

Nas, Windy & Wilkie's additional money probably soaked up Aleer and Steele's.

The flow on affect from not getting Leek is huge though.

And Geelong, massive FU. A pick to be absorbed by Fincher, F1 and nothing more - even tge revised offer was insulting and too late for us to work with. Get serious Geelong... they are a injury away from missing finals - at least I can hope.

With the 20% discount in NGA/FS heavy years, pick 50 was roughly where the order would eventually normalise. Perhaps closer to 45 this year
There will be a lot more being consumed through the 20s and 30s and I imagine not many will jump ahead of our 50. Albeit huge unknown on what pick swaps will be done. The Suns have 6 themselves between 15 and 36, Brisbane will likely push back and add more picks and already have 3 that likely are all consumed for Annable. Carlton will need to shuffle around for Dean. Essendon have Sweid and one or two more (that may well not go before 50), so may need to use a couple of their second rounders. But as always, we wait for all the late bids!

It’s not
Well, I think it is. Yep the steak knives aren’t great. Still a lot of upside to that F1 instead of pick 19 and who knows where they would have landed. But I can understand people didn’t want to lose him. Excited at looking at the centre square for the first bounce and who is in there and look down to the F50 and (hopefully) see a fit Max, Roma, and Flyin.

Adelaide wins the trade period, finbar maley in no elite mids what a shit show
Rubbish, the serious Bulldogs, landed their 175cm, 75kg key back, pick 74 for a former no.1 pick and kept Khamis. What are you on about?

I've 100% given up spending energy on trade, picks and draft hypothesise. There's just too much movement and an ever changing value metric to make it worth while. Particularly now it seems we probably just take 1-2 late picks, I'm as uninthused as a person visiting England for the 3rd time.

ST KILDA

Who left:
Max Heath (trade, Melbourne), Jack Steele (trade, Melbourne)

Who arrived: Tom De Koning (free agent, Carlton), Jack Silvagni (free agent, Carlton), Sam Flanders (trade, Gold Coast), Liam Ryan (trade, West Coast)

Draft picks owned: 50, 65, 86, 104

Jon Ralph says: “No one is ever accepting a handshake deal from Graeme Allan ever again after the Leek Aleer deal. It’s cost Leek Aleer $2 million … I totally understand St Kilda can do whatever they want to do and be as ruthless and hard-arse as they want. But the AFL players out there would say: ‘You want us to reduce long-term contracts and trade us against our will and not have destiny for our own situations?’ That’s the thing … I think if they wanted to get him they would’ve and maybe they just fell out of love with him. It was fairly callous, but it’s a ruthless industry.”

David King says: “They’re happy to be the villains. They’re a strong footy club, they’re ruthless in a lot of ways, their coach embodies that. I think it’s gone unnoticed, the injury toll, in 2025 and where they sat on the ladder in terms of games lost to injury … They only need a little bit of luck, with the additions they’ve got during this trade period, to really spike up the ladder. What threshold that is is up for conjecture, but I think they’ll make a move next year.”

Leigh Montagna says: “They’ve executed their plan perfectly this trade period — and they’ve got exactly what they wanted out of it.”

Foxfooty.com.au’s trade grade: A
