2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

When Geelong last year were touted to take Doddy ahead of us but instead surprisingly took another ruckman I can’t remember his name
Has he played firsts? Don’t think so but has anyone kept an eye on him, did we win that pick????
when the Marshall stuff was going on before mackie blew it,this geelong pick was not even being spoken about as someone who would play ruck for them in 2026,it was stanley conway and edwards

a heezahazbeen,a heneverwaz and edwards,so fair to say that this moiler or similar to that is not even close,Dodson has already played and would think he will get plenty of chances to play 5-10 games this year, even if tdk and marshall have a clean run with injury, surely we would take advantage of our depth and rest these guys up a little as well as keep dodson happy & less willing to lend an ear to the crows, not to mention his own form possibly banging down the door

if we lose the pick we wont know till 2029/30 most likely, but looking very good right now

Someone posted this summary on our pages.
Look at the quality on the ins compared to the outs. It's a real improvement to the squad.

That was me...

It's amazing work by the LM Team to get such an upgrade in quality.
The only immediate downgrades being the lose of the aging Webster and Steele for the 2 draftees, 4 of the other swaps are massive immediate wins.

Heath upgraded to TDK - massive upgrade
Cordy upgraded to Silvagni - massive upgrade
Jones upgraded to Flanders - huge upgrade
Schoenmaker upgraded to Ryan - massive upgrade

McLennan for McDonald - quality like for like - potential upgraded
Boyd for the SSP Train on player. - Upgrade

Webster for Fincher - short term lose hopefully long term gain.
Steele for Banfield - short term lose hopefully long term gain.

Should be a good 2026- I think there were about 5 games this season that we lost due to poor starts or a bad quarter- a lot of it where the midfield went missing for parts of a game. If we fix that, we'll play finals.
I also felt like Marshall took a while to settle into more than a couple of games. Hopefully having two rucks means we can really start well in the middle.

I have a feeling Walsh is a TDK situation where he has already decided to join us and it will be a fait accompli for most of the season.
I hope we prioritise signing Darcy Wilson over Walsh to be very honest.

They chose the second choice SA ruckman ahead of Dodson if i remember correctly.

Might be a rare moment Geelong got too cute with their draft picks

I know SOS is SOS but I would really love if we didn't just sign the Carlton squad.
We've paid hardly anything, or nothing at all, to bring in players that range from potential stars to solid VFL players.
That Carlton is the easiest club for a club that hasn't played finals to prise players out of isn't a SOS issue, it's a Carlton problem.
I'm not a massive fan of Walsh but if you can get him for free then you get him.

Fair to say that every club loses senior players for draftees and as such it's part of the normal succession/attrition and need not be counted.

THere has been rumblings about another FA also. From the same club as B.Bear

Jacob Molier

Molier started well in the VFL but missed most of the season with groin and back injuries and Dodson had a pretty clear run for most of the season.

At this stage it looks like we've got the better of the deal but way to early to make a definitive call.

Add Ricky Nixon, McConville..Mukden, there were loads more too. In my 20s, black humour was my go to..the fact that these older guys came to St Kilda and kept going and kept St Kilda going made St Kilda a cult club in my imagination. Grant Thomas late4 changed things on that score. (Th esheldon success years and even the Stan Alves successes seemed fleeting, even at the time)
