Brilliant overview!I have been holding off on making making comments on the Ah Chee trade debacle but would like to put some perspective on it. The Lions are currently in the premiership window for the next two to three years but this largely depends on player retention, injuries and recruiting. Out current list manager Ambrogio is the best in the business and together with our recruiting team lead by Conole have put together the best and deepest list in the AFL. They have identified players of need, recruited and developed players and traded for players with other clubs in a professional manner. We currently have the deepest list in the AFL with 6 AFL standard players being available nest year sometime who will be trying to get back into the team. We are basically the envy of all other clubs in the AFL. As a result of this great work you would expect all our off contract players to be offered a handsome sum of money to play elsewhere and believe me the opposition is now hunting us. The difficult decision for our available players is do they take the money or do they stay and chase the ultimate success and premiership glory? This is a difficult decision and would not be taken lightly by any of our players. We currently have the best coach, best recruiting team, best list manager and best footy director in the AFL. On top of this we will be relocating to a new football oval which will be the best venue in the AFL.
Now let’s have a look at the plight of the Ah Chee trade. Ah Chee is currently seen as our best utility player being able to play as a half forward, wingman or half back flanker. His 2024 year was his best where he was one of our best finals players and managed to kick 4 goals on the grandfinal. This form unfortunately was not replicated in 2025 where he kicked 24.27 goals/points at 47.1% which is a little under as a half forward flanker. He did however manage to play 25 games but did not get a top 10 finish in our best and fairest. To his credit however played his best footy in our finals campaign. Once Berry was injured Ah Chee was moved to the wing to cover Dempsey in the Grand FINAL and played a great game until the last 5 minutes when the AFLs most dangerous wingman snagged a few goals. Born in October 1997 makes him a 28 year old dual premiership player who is still playing good footy and has been offered a 4 year contract by theLions hierarchy on apparently a compatible contract to Adelaide. So what is his worth? No injury problems, plays nearly every game for us every year, our best utility player being able to play multiple positions, offered a 5 year contract by Adelaide on excellent money, in our best 22 players.
Apparently the Lions provided the Crows 4 different scenarios to complete the trade but the best Adelaide could do was offer a future 2nd rounder and 3rd rounder. This effectively is around 250 points value in draft capital which is hardly a tantalising proposition to any AFL team to make a trade for a valuable premiership player.
So given this information and this scenario what would you do? I reckon given the Lions current position it is more important to make sure that any other team trying to poach our players need to pay what is reasonable. I for one am happy that we did not give away a player for well under their trade value.
Over the next few months Ah Chee will now need to make a decision on whether he will stay at the Lions, be poached by another AFL club which is below Adelaide on the ladder or hope he will get to Adelaide. It will be a daily news story. I wish Callum Ah Chee and his family all the best for the future.

I mean surely one of the worst outcomes for us would be that oppositions look at our talented list and think they can make big offers and we won't put up a fight to keep them
Collingwood will go hard for Logan Morris and then say sorry all we got is pick 40
I imagine you will calmly and reasonably point out the correlations and the conceptualisations and the moralities etc that our dear friends in Adelaide presented now and apply those same elements to their new situation. They, being the honourable and intelligent people that they are will like your posts and admit to their error and thank you for reminding them where the high ground lies and proceed to, in turn, educate the less aware of their fellow posters as to the reality of the situation. It is comforting that the Crom position on Ah Chee is that the f2 (40) and f3 (60) was a fair and reasonable offer in the circumstances.
With those circumstances being we should have taken what we could get otherwise PSD.
At some stage in the future the shoe will be on the other foot and the Crom supporters will be going feral.
Lot of assumptions there. Maybe he did ask for a fair trade. Maybe he wasn't treated fairly whilst at the Lions in terms of $. Lot of unknowns. Cal was a player a lot thought as "fringe" soMust admit, Ah Chee is completely complicit in this mess and his reputation has significantly been tarnished as a result.
Ah Chee is a smart guy and is no meathead and full well knows how this works.
The fact he is happy for Brisbane to receive nothing shows his true character. He could do what Baker at WCE did and say to Adelaide / his manager that he won't leave unless Brisbane is rightfully compensated. Again, he knows how this works. Why wasn't he pressuring his manager and Adelaide in saying he wouldn't leave if they don't come up for a fair trade, which clearly Brisbane made?
Either way, he's sadly showing what a self-interested character he really is.
. Adelaide use the PSD as a mechanism to get players on the cheap, we use the academy. I know which one I'd prefer to use.Must admit, Ah Chee is completely complicit in this mess and his reputation has significantly been tarnished as a result.

This draft is already acknowledged as weak-not entirely just not a huge amount of game breakers comparatively the great drafts we have been blessed with recently-. The proposed pick is already weak normally but especially weak in a draft like this.Yep thats why most are pointing the finger at his manager. The managers do the bulk of the legwork in negotiation and he shouldve seen months ahead that the crows couldnt satisfy a trade without trading their first rounder
I think Ah Chee is on the line of being too good to pass up. If Logan Morris went to the PSD and Collingwood didn’t have pick 1 they know they wouldn’t get him hence forcing a fair tradeI mean surely one of the worst outcomes for us would be that oppositions look at our talented list and think they can make big offers and we won't put up a fight to keep them

How do you know he wasn't pressuring his manager?Must admit, Ah Chee is completely complicit in this mess and his reputation has significantly been tarnished as a result.

I know it's been hard for you to find things to make ridiculous hot takes about since we've gone back-to-back so I forgive you this one.Must admit, Ah Chee is completely complicit in this mess and his reputation has significantly been tarnished as a result.

First, Adelaide’s offer isn’t $900k a year, that’s waaay over their rumoured offer. Both Ah Chee and his manager stuffed up. If they knew months ago then instead of being happy with Adelaide trying to shaft us then out of respect for Brisbane, that helped him become a premiership player, how about make it clear that he won’t walk to the pre season draft. Get a deal done. For 900k a year they are obviously desperate for him. Guarantee that one of those deals would have got done.
If I was Ah Chee I also wouldn’t want my manager crapping on the club that had done their best in trade negotiations to facilitate a reasonable deal.
Regardless of the money, the grass ain’t always greener and they just got their first sneak peak into the calibre of club they are walking into.
I know it's been hard for you to find things to make ridiculous hot takes about since we've gone back-to-back so I forgive you this one.
If I were Ah Chee I’d be walking to the PSD too. I know I’ll be getting 5 years at the great money I was promised going this route no matter where I land and rightfully loyalty stops being my problem as soon as the trade talks fall through. Why take the grenade because the big boys failed to do their jobs? The consequences should all fall with the clubs and his agent
Adelaide were offering future picks, for the 2026 draft, which is being spoken about as strong and deep (and a lot of club tied kids again). This draft is already acknowledged as weak-not entirely just not a huge amount of game breakers comparatively the great drafts we have been blessed with recently-. The proposed pick is already weak normally but especially weak in a draft like this.
Yep, of course his agent is going to back in Adelaide over us, that is where the next pay check is coming from.First, Adelaide’s offer isn’t $900k a year, that’s waaay over their rumoured offer.
Secondly, Ah Chee’s manager was actively working with (for) Adelaide, secondly his client.
Oh, Adelaide definitely had the PSD in their thinking.Yep, of course his agent is going to back in Adelaide over us, that is where the next pay check is coming from.
I think both Adelaide and Cals manager came to the conclusion of the PSD well and truely prior to draft night ending. There is no way you wouldn’t have accepted the revised offer of F2 and FF2 (considering how compromised that draft will be versus the F3) without re-assurance that the manager was happy to go down that path if needed.
I’d also go further and say it’s likely that Adelaide were assessing the value of their offers against the old DVI system.
I saw some Adelaide supporters reference a Reid interview on SenSA where he stated that the crows had a trade proposal of pick 29 + 500 DVI points that we knocked back.
Port or Adelaide only had two additional picks worth value ~200points, however under the old system Adelaide next picks are worth that ~500 points.
To be fair though, it's not his place to be talking on behalf of Cal particularly when it comes to family or money. There are very few straight talkers in AFL clubland or the media. Everyone is pushing an agenda and happy to misspeak to push their narrative.
This includes Ambrogio. When asked why he thought Cal was wanting to move to Adelaide, he deflected and said he didn’t know and best to ask Cal.
We all know Cal wants to be near his family, who have moved to SA, and that Adelaide are offering a longer and more lucrative deal than we are.

Or some Adelaide mod will ban your ass.
