I don't think he would have made a difference still. He would have played out his career in a mid table side. If he plays too much midfield he tends to break down too. Chasing ready made players then was when we should have been drafting hard. We'd look more like Adelaide now who are starting to see reward for sacrifice.
Could not agree more.

And, yet we still lost the game like every other game this year when we’ve lost clearance in the middle. And, interestingly every game we’ve won clearances we’ve won the game. Who would’ve thought.

It’s not a sustainable brand for any side to get pantsed in the middle but somehow win games of a running game of either line.

The reality is if there’s no pressure in the middle, and it’s getting run out, we’re not even giving ourselves a chance for an intercept game.
You are drawing a long bow with no relevance to each individual game. It’s a very simple view and it doesn’t mean we win many if any of those games.

Our 5 losses:
Adelaide 63 points
GWS 28 points
Bulldogs 71 points
Brisbane 45 points
Carlton 15 points.

Only one of those games was within a kick 10 minutes left in the last.

Friday night, We absolutely could not shut down Curnow & McKay. We weren’t murdered by their midfield - even with the differentials you outlined. We got murdered in the air which prevented our inability to transition and slingshot through their zone.

Even if we got clean ball via clearance we are still kicking to undersized players on the likes of Weitering. We needed to win intercept ball - that allows us to transition with-our players set up high and their defenders drawn out.

100% this and you have been saying this for a long time

Club have said they got it wrong

Mason wood last night at a player function.

Im sure Judd can provide great insight about how changing clubs and getting paid millions can positively impact his life.
I took 2 things from it.

1. There was a lot of praise for how we have approached this entire TDK situation. Little nugget dropped of “We think you could be the best player in the league” 😮

2. How convinced are Carlton that he is close to out the door if they are now choosing to throw external funds at him after previously showing little interest. Desperate times for them.

I’d hardly call a direct correlation to winning and losing a long bow, nor a consistent trend not holding relevance.

On the other hand, there’s been zero correlation between our ability to intercept and have intercept marks to winning a game of footy.

For context, we had more intercept marks against Carlton than we had against Fremantle, with these numbers being relatively consistent throughout most matches, yet we clearly know there was a clear disparity across these games for our clearance work and across games we’ve won and lost.

With respect, were you at the game Friday night?

Half way during the second quarter Carlton’s backs had 11 intercept marks. I’m not sure what the ended up with.

Being there live - we look small and skinny. - it’s been like that for a couple of years now.

Sharman and Owen’s aren’t key position players

We need more height and muscle.

We got the ball in our 50 enough the other night, it just come whistling out!

Then because Carlton were marking everything, the second half we kicked wide to the boundary (because we couldn’t out mark them) making it hard score.

Just my thoughts.

We lost the clearances to Adelaide by 4 and to GWS by 3.

We were comprehensively smashed in both games.

The crows kicked 8 goals from key forwards. Giants 7 + another 5 from Toby.

Our inability to defend key talls and intercept the ball when it goes their way - Just like Friday night, where we then can play the game on our terms, which opens up the field and gives us advanced options for territory is a much bigger concern.

There is more to a game of football outside of clearances - especially when our game is built around run, carry and pressure to win the ball back high.

I’m not saying we don’t need midfielders. But if we keep losing the above mentioned contests. We are continually going to struggle.

And yet, with 9-10 minutes left it was a 3 point game. Carlton’s tall forwards kicked 6/11 goals and tore us apart as we ramped the pressure up with repeat entries.

This side isn’t set up needing midfield domination. It’s set up to run and ideally you do that off intercept as your players are already positioned high and theirs are out of position.

I agree with that but I'm not sure why you argued that we needed to lose Battle then start cheerleading for an intercepting tall again.

He can seduce him with all the Norm Smith Medals he won with the blues

Apparently we seduced him by setting up a meeting with our corporate heavy hitters. Carlton not to be out done got Juddy to meet him at a box factory.

I was at the ground and having Dougal labouring 100 meters behind McKay was like playing a man down. Having a player on McLKay would have done just as much.

We should target Charlie Comben. I love that kid, he's going to be an absolute star.

I think we have a prized possession with Tauru. I’m okay with that overall transaction.

I’m annoyed with injuries/suspensions impacting our ability to play a structure that gets the best out of everyone.

Without knowing how good Aleer is. I see value in that deal if the cost is an F2.

The early shaping up of the draft looks like having us missing the gun mids again. Early doors I like the look of Archie Ludowyke as a young key tall. Probably looks like being a better tall forward prospect than either Keeler and Caminiti.

That was a KPF issue not a backline thirds tall that Stavro is getting a hard on over. King would have made a huge difference halving marking contests.

Thought it was more across the entire ground most of the season - bulldogs another example of when it was starting to go wrong we had to keep trying to pick the eyes out of a zone as no one could take a big pack mark (before they just broke us open).

But if we are talking about our ability to win the game on Friday night. We couldn’t and didn’t handle their talls and we couldn’t then generate enough clean ball outside due to the lack of intercepts.

There are heaps of good mids coming through that should be around our pick. I'd like Where's Wally if we go for a forward.

Have you factored in who gets a FS/Academy and how the Eagles will get band 1 for Allan?

Dogs just ripped us apart. We couldn't close down their space and couldn't find any of our own. It was the worst game we've played so far but I suspect that they worked on a plan to break us open.
