My cousin was indigenous. If his workplace had singled him out and put pictures up of him about his journey and ancestry he would have hated being there. Maybe this newer group is different but I've known a few indigenous guys and most are shy and humble and hate being in the spotlight.
Your cousin isn’t representative of all Aboriginal people (noting we don’t have any Torres Strait Islander players), and acknowledging culture by its own definition is incredibly complex which varies across settings, backgrounds, etc.

For context, cultural safety by its own definition can only be determined by the Aboriginal person who is a recipient of the service or the interaction (https://www.closingthegap.gov.au/si...mm-infra-targets-updated-24-august-2022_0.pdf).

The Aboriginal people at the club are best placed to guide how the workplace environment should be shaped for Aboriginal staff and players.

I’m not going to get into this in depth with you.

What you are seeing play out in the media is often a delayed snapshot of what’s already occurred.

The club are confident in TDK. They also know if Carlton could match he would stay. They cannot match this offer without nuking their cap.
They could do it easily, trade out one mil/year player and they're in business. McKay they wouldn't miss.

They don't need to match either, just bridge the gap.

The thought of playing in a bottom four side with Jones, Byrnes, Hill & co would spook anyone. Richmond would be more appealing right now.

So you are asking them to trade out another core piece and thus they still lose someone they don’t want to.

And match or get near our offer

Try again

I'm not asking them to do anything, if they had the choice to either lose a player who has kicked 9 goals in 7 games this years vs TDK I'm pretty sure McKay gets the arse.

If any club are going to cook the books it's these campaigners.

They didn’t want to trade McKay last year when there was a chance they could land Petracca for him.

Carlton won’t be taking on anymore salary then their current offer and they won’t be trading out a player they perceive is one of their A grade core to make a bigger offer to retain TDK

Good thing Nas feels differently.

Yeah, Essendon came in late and upped their offer. The manager went to us to see if we'd match and we just cut off all communication with him after signing Crouch. Wouldn't return his calls. He'd told everyone that he was going to the Saints already.
So he agreed to our original offer and then reneged on it. No wonder we stopped talking to him.

What actually happened was that Caldwell had plenty of opportunity to sign the offer from the Saints, but his manager decided to continue to shop him.

And he did that past the time frame where we had given where we could no longer guarantee the offer because we had other trades to target.

Time ran out so we moved on to other targets.

It’s since come out that our cap was full at the end of that trade period.

We weren’t going to be able to give Caldwell a cent more.

Hope you are right, but not supremely confident unfortunately.

I’m under no illusions how important this off season is.

How important retaining nas is.

How important signing TDK + others are

And truthfully, how important it is to make genuinely hard calls on Marshall and Steele + potentially others.

But if the club is confident they can pull this off. Then I’ll trust my info.

This delisting of Membrey was a real eye opener...

Collingwood are on the top of the later thanks in part to the Membrey recruitment. He will play for three more years at least.

Why do we always think the grass is greener on the other side.
Did you know that Owens and Sharman are averaging more goals per than Tim?

We delisted him because we wanted to focus on the development of them. It's been a win for both parties.

Is Membrey really moving the needle that much at the Pies though? I havent seen enough of their games to have a strong view, but playing in their forward line is a tad easier than playing in ours I would have thought.

Because 9 months ago we had:

King Caminiti Owens Sharman Keeler on our list and the first 4 would have been locks in our 22.

It’s not fair on Membrey to give him a 1 year deal as a back up if someone is willing to offer more or to play him regularly.

There was no doubt about his ability. But it was a decision for the future that’s hurt us in the short term- which was always the risk.

The club are always confident, have barely landed a blow in 15 years.

Yeah but we weren't alone there.

Most clubs had the same issue because of the cuts made to the salary cap by the AFL during/post covid.

Turned out that Essendon was one of the few clubs that actually had spare salary space despite the significant cuts due to Covid.

Ironic because we are yet to see the ‘other side’ of letting Membrey go

If Keeler turns out to be the prospect we hope he can be then yes, it is greener

And if King Sharman Caminiti Keeler Owens turn out to be the key position combination they project to be then yes, it is greener

Wasn’t having a shot at anyone. Was pointing out that if it became about money - there was no more to give

kind of fits in with the whole concept of "pay my respects to leaders past, present and emerging" eh. Action it, not just say the words.

I'm happy that our indigenous players came up with a space that suits them best and would be hoping that their teammates are happy for them if that is something that is going to lead them to them being happier and grounded at the club

😂

How short sighted are you?

14 games later and it’s “yet to see the other side of letting Membrey go”

There has been some ripping takes on Bigfooty lately, but a sweeping call after 14 games is a funny one
