Really ordinary post
but you do you Hey
If you are going to constantly moan about everything your footy club does, then yeah, maybe consider changing teams.

What an absolute miserable time that would be considering football probably plays a large part in most people’s lives on here.

Really ? you were wrong on multiple occasions with Battle last year
Really?

I told you early doors, letting him or Howard go was something they were considering

I said I had spoken to SOS at the game (pies game) and he had agreed to re-sign and Ralph ran with it that night aswell. (Or to the effect the deal was effectively done)

I said he was going months out and the club was confident of band 1.

I’ve also said both sides months later are probably at fault for how it played out in the end.

I don’t think any of that was wrong, whether you side with battle or the club - you’ll see it via that point of view.

I know which side you see it from. Let’s leave it at that.

Guys I think ultimately we are not playing to our strengths when it comes to trading/FA

Imo our strength for the last 20 years has been getting guys who are struggling for opportunity.

Steele
Roberton
Membrey
Butler
Wood
McRae
Bruce

Just to name some recent ones.

Ultimately, the more targeted this has been (Steele, McRae, Bruce) the better results it has yielded,

In addition I’d argue players we’ve tried this with but have missed

Draper
Xerri
Caldwell

Have shown to be equally good.

This is to an extent what Geelong has done … but using guys in need of a fresh start as oppose to guys not getting games. They are cheaper and don’t disrupt the salary cap the same way. Specifically targeting quality teams and their depth players.

In saying that some players I have ‘scouted’ I did this regarding young KPF the other day with replacements for King.

Billy Dowling 187 cm
Averaging 22 touches in the sanfl
Midfield

Adam Cerra , with Jagga smith coming in next year. I’d look at him.

Harry Demttia from pies
Jacob Ryan from pies
Archie Perkins is one of look at
Sam Sturt
Nathan O’Driscol
Mitch Knevitt
George Stevens

The big team I’d be raiding is the suns
With so many academy guys to come through
  • Ben Ainsworth (I think could be worth a look at)
  • Jake Rodger

Giants aswell
  • Ryan Anguin
  • Connor Stone
  • James Leake
  • Max Gruzewski
  • Worpal we know
  • Jack scrimshaw is go for
  • I’d also keep a very VERY close eye on Cam McKenzie
  • Matt Jefferson
  • Tom Sparrow
  • Tyler Sonsie
  • Oli Florent
  • Harvy Ghalaghar
  • Jed Busslinger
-

Just to name a few.

I've had it confirmed to me today that Max King will be at the Swans next year. Not sure what to think about it but I know that the club aren't happy about it.
Jeez, didn't realize we were looking at going the code-switching route

Langford's problem is still how he transitions into the midfield long term and what his ceiling is. Demons think he's Bont 2.0. Is he fast enough to not be a liability on defensive transition? Does he have the cleanliness and scoreboard impact of Bont?

Time will tell. Great start for the kid though
I think he’s decision making as expected has been excellent. Agree with you, his speed will always be a worry especially defensively. Shown an awesome ability kick goals. Still worry about his overall ability to be damaging tbh. Was always going to come in early and be good.

Interesting he is averaging less than a tackle a game. Pou , Wilson and Trav all average/d more at the same age.

Funny the one thing I’ll never have to worry about with Trav is his defensive running or defensive ability.

He can use the ball as well as anyone at least

We are dead last for contested marks at -4.2 per average against opposition, the next worst is Sydney at -3.4 followed by WC at -2.6. So it shows that we are lacking for height at either end of the ground and we are also bottom 4 in centre clearances. So it probably shows the list build is deficient in high class midfielders and not enough key depth at either end.
Camma was top 10 for contested marks a few weeks back wasn’t he? Don’t think Howard moves the needle at all anymore and I was one of his few defenders.

Yes it’s our fault the clubs has achieved **** all for most of its 151 years. How dare we.

So you were confident he was resigning but also confident we’d get band 1 for him when he left…

Don’t recall you ever apportioning any blame to the club for the way it played out. In fact I distantly recall you claiming the shopping rumours were bulllshit and he shopped himself until Mowwy came back from a self imposed exile to tell us what you’d said.

It actually makes it sound like the club was all over the place

And I will stick with SOS and Gubby are no good

Warning: Unpopular post incoming:

If everything falls over, NAS goes, TDK stays at Blues, I think we should consider a trade with Dees whereby we take Oliver off their hands but we land their first rounder? Potentially give them Steele back and get their 2nd as well.

Basically we are buying a pick. We end up with 3 picks in the top 10. NAS pick + our first and Dees first.

Oliver for Steele is even in terms of output but we get 2 picks in the process.

The team sucks next year, but we embrace a proper rebuild. 3 cracks at new top tier players.

Obviously I would rather keep NAS and get TDK, but if both fall through we have to spend money somewhere and if taking on Olivers contract nets us a top 10 pick I would do it.

EDIT: The reason I would include Steele in the trade is we cant have Oliver, Macrae and Steele in the same midfield. Somebody would have to make way. Dees get an immediate like for like replacement, and get out of the dismal contract.
like that you thinking ahead, hope we dont need to,worry with that is didnt dees give first pick to bombers?so might be their F1

but it would get some value for steele,it would help acheive our sc obligations & would love the pick/s

not expecting much re oliver, but redo his contract front ending it & distance him from the kids if he chooses to be an axxhole, but if he did knuckle down thats an upside

hopefully we dont have to look at saving what we can from the fire moves, but dont mind that one

Sounds like port and crows are coming for Keels now as NaZ stable pony.
Crows trying to pull that is laughable - stuffed him about as an NGA academy member, didn't nominate him, didn't try to pick him up. He should string them along and eventually tell them to shove it (and then re-sign with us).

They didn’t want to trade McKay last year when there was a chance they could land Petracca for him.

Carlton won’t be taking on anymore salary then their current offer and they won’t be trading out a player they perceive is one of their A grade core to make a bigger offer to retain TDK
Key difference this time is that McKay wants to leave.

Would love a Cam Mckenzie, Phillpou, TDK, Garcia midfield moving forward.

In reply - firstly, to call someone's post delusional because they don't match your own thoughts is a reach. Turn down the emotive button a tad.
Secondly, Steele tackles a lot because he is literally second to the ball often. His clearance work is poor in recent years in comparison to his direct opponent, and the ones he does lose, are often clear breaks, whereas he rarely breaks clear himself and at best, dishes out under pressure.
He is the exact definition of a list clogger now given his spot in the side, or at least in the middle, could be used for our future mids like Boxshall, Garcia, Pou, or potentially even Travaglia or Wilson in bursts.
He does have good footy left in a good side, which is why it IS a good time to consider a trade.
The fact that his removal also helps us shift money around is a bonus we should not be ignoring.
Good post.

The Membrey trade was a strategy I'd like to see more of. We're not in the premiership window right now so what do we care if Collingwood get another flag or not? Membrey had been loyal to us for years, there's a chance he can win a cup and some glory in his last few years, we probably couldn't have given him that. From our side, we give Sharman the exposure he needs and free up some more salary cap, plus correct the squad balance a little.

As a player, Membrey took too long in disposal and slowed our attack down, allowed the oppo to set up for us. He also hadn't been as accurate as he was as a younger player.

We should now investigate the same type of deal for other seniors such as Steele.

Win win deals are fine.
