Well welcome to the forum TK

There's publicly no money on the table at the moment for any midfielders (from what I know)

Here's three:

Melbourne - Clayton Oliver would solve a few problems with us
Gold Coast - Matt Rowell would also be a great get
Bulldogs - Bont (no brainer)

I would publically put out offers (mega offers) to these players.

Then focus our attention completely on mid fielders in the next draft and beyond
Oliver would cost big salary ( contracted) plus draft capital.
Rowell will costcbig salary plus draft capital and wants to go to a big club ( maybe you caught the points here about missing multiple mids who went to big clubs because you know Gold Coast at 4.40 pm on a June Sunday every year while non performing teams get coffer filling blockbusters)
Bont, captain of Bulldogs who look like they have a future, wants to be a one club player. He won't move and if he did it would not be to the Saints.
We are still trying the draft root and you want to spend it on a slow as a wet week Oliver?
We should look at Rowell but history says a snowballs chance in hell.
Bont is the only realistic option if we want to draft as no capital required. Bulldogs could probably match. Bont is 30.
Only realistic one is TDK. 26, RFA so no capital and Carlton SC is stretched and can't come close.
Kelly
Sheil
Taranto
LDU
Callaghan
even
Houston
DeGoey
All offered big money none came.

Clayton Oliver - could solve a few problems, but could also be a disaster. Would have to overpay to get him based on his recent off-field issues and his recent form. If you could guarantee his form of three years ago, sure. But no, you cannot,

Matt Rowell - it's being reported that he wants to stay at Gold Coast. Not attainable.

Marcus Bontempelli - The captain of the Bulldogs is not leaving a club who in theory can win a premiership to one that cannot in the near-future. Not attainable.

So you managed to throw up one attainable option, that would represent a bigger risk than any we are taking.

I do agree we should try to draft more quality midfielders, but we also might need to draft a gun key forward as insurance for King.

End of story. There are no bona fide attainable midfield stars available. We had our shot at a few previously and missed.

We move on. TDK - come on down.

If we are letting Steele go I reckon we'd want one of these guys lined up. Or Butters.

He should rattle cages behind closed doors. It's for show otherwise.
Maybe he had been fighting behind closed doors previously.

Remember he first only really went public at our B&F and that was an effort to inspire Saints people to give their absolute best, to inspire them to fight adversity.

King over Rozee at this point but any one of a few others in that super draft. Aaron Naughton and Darcy Fogarty over Hunter Clark and Coffield. Brad Hill over Kosi Pickett and Acres and the rest. Clavarino over Harrison Petty.

You could write a thesis on how we stuffed up drafting.
The reason I asked is I asked ai 🤖 for predictions had we drafted traccy and bont instead of paddy and Billo. It has us making a lot more finals and even one grand final but no premiership yet. I’ll add these others and see what it comes up with.
Mind you we probably wouldn’t have had access had we taken traccy and Bont.

Herald Sun reporting he’s likely to re-sign with us despite ongoing interest from SA clubs so sounds promising

Would he go to Adelaide after they rejected him at the draft?
Got a PM from an interested party whose son was in the Adelaide NGA with him. He left it because it apparently was hopeless and played SANFL.
Adelaide put out rumours he was lazy and then passed him the dp directly before him.
Suffice to say highly doubtful he would go to Adelaide,so that would leave only Port.

I'm all for calling out and holding the club accountable for poor decision-making in the past, preset and future - but letting Membrey go and get a 2 year deal at the Pies was the right call for both him and the club. He's kicked 16 goals from 12 games (only kicked multiple goals 3 times) while getting far better quality and quantity of delivery. If he was still with us, people would be calling for his head just like Jones.

Skunk was a great player for us but he's lost a bit of pace and a bit of spring - can still play a role in a good system but we don't need another 29 year old GOP taking gametime away from kids.

Oliver. Dees did not want to let him go. He is also a slow inside mid which is one of our problems that we have too many slow mids, but at least he is a very good one when his mind is on the game though it has not been for couple of seasons now.

Rowell is already being chased by a swag of Vic Clubs, including St Kilda. However, if he goes he will pick say the Pies or Cats. This really is just rinse and repeat for any gun mid.

Bont. LOL no way would he join us. He already has a truckload of money and the Dogs will remain in the Premiership Window for his remaining years at the Dogs and I fancy that he would love to go out with another flag or two. In terms of us rebuilding our list he will be 30 next year.

I wish we had have kept him, might have taken Murphy Reid @ no.10 in the draft
😝😝

I heard Hoiny on SEN last night. Langford is the one that is killing it this year. He said he's one of 7 top 100 players in his first season and he hasn't even been thrown on ball much. One of the others was Connor Rozee who we were going to take over Max King. Obviously Daicos another.

That might have been Snags snap against Carlton right there.

My cousin was indigenous. If his workplace had singled him out and put pictures up of him about his journey and ancestry he would have hated being there. Maybe this newer group is different but I've known a few indigenous guys and most are shy and humble and hate being in the spotlight.
My understanding - and hope - is that the pictures are of indigenous Saints of the past, not current players.

Warning: Unpopular post incoming:

If everything falls over, NAS goes, TDK stays at Blues, I think we should consider a trade with Dees whereby we take Oliver off their hands but we land their first rounder? .

Given that that the Dees have already traded their 1st Pick to Essendon that cannot happen.

God yes. The way we have treated our engine room we Temu spare parts for 15 years has been horrific.
Icing on the cake would be to lose Steele and pick up another mediocre flake.
Walsh is up for grabs. As vanilla as Billings and as injured as King.

My two mids were Smilie who I haven't heard about and Murphy Reid who seems to have been playing more as a small forward.
The Essendon bloke did his knee first preseason game and haven't seen much of Draper.
Lindsay maybe? I think Trav is still finding his feet and Viking has yet to be sighted.

Langford's problem is still how he transitions into the midfield long term and what his ceiling is. Demons think he's Bont 2.0. Is he fast enough to not be a liability on defensive transition? Does he have the cleanliness and scoreboard impact of Bont?

Time will tell. Great start for the kid though

This delisting of Membrey was a real eye opener...

Collingwood are on the top of the later thanks in part to the Membrey recruitment. He will play for three more years at least.

Why do we always think the grass is greener on the other side.

Sigh...one, we offered Tim a contract but invited him to seek a longer contract elsewhere; and two, Membrey will not be in our team when we are seriously contending and would only hinder the development of a Keeler, Owens and/or Sharman. If you remember, the reason we got Membrey in the first place was because Goodes stayed at the Swans for one year too many and Tim decided to leave.
