Honestly - I'm about to take a sabbatical from all footy media.
The amount of rubbish they put out there.
HOW has Tdk cost us Nas?
We have the money for both. Its not either or.

Ill tell you something, almost every media person, beside the Saints one, are barracking for us to fail on this.
Yep I’m down to Kingy and Kane on a Monday, sometimes Friday and that’s it.
Saw the Nas clip from Caro last night and of course she had to squeeze in her “this would be a disaster coming from the club who continually whinges about academies etc” tripe in at the end.

I notice Simon Garlic is now parroting the same as Ross and Bass with the father son/academy stuff. No noise around him.

This, combined with the complete and utter nonsense and/or lies around offers, money and years etc and it’s not worth wasting time on.

Already been stated. He’s been offered a front ended contract by both Adelaide teams with the first two years at 2m a year. We’ve offered a 2 year contract at 1.4m a year.

You cannot compare the first 2 years of a long term to deal to only a 2 year deal.

If Nas agreed to a long term deal with St Kilda he could most likely secure the same if not more than the Adelaide Clubs total offers.

That’s 1.2m left on the table the next two years.

Plus if he stays he actually gets extra cash as he signs with us for 2 years and then a long-term deal with an Adelaide Club = more money that just direct to an Adelaide Club now.

That $2 million a year is inflated, and Nas gets less per year later. So it is only just more money earlier, and is not more money.

And what Nas would get as part of a longterm St Kilda contract upfront no one knows.

As poorly delivered an 'exclusive' as I've seen in some time. "That was mixed received" - good lord. He stammered through the whole thing.

Wouldn't be in a rush to re-sign him at our end until things play out further. He's got a fair bit to prove
What round of the draft is Bevan Phillipou expected to be drafted?

I’ve seen highlights of him and he’s looks to be a fluid left footer like his brother. But beyond that I know little about him.

What do the draft watchers think of him? What are his strengths and weaknesses?
Isn’t his name Jevan or something like that

I mean generally speaking longer term contract = less money per year (security for the player should mean less risk for the club). Thats traditionally been the way.

In Nas case its pretty strange.

I cant say it would make any sense to me that hed wanna stay with us for two years for LESS money than hed get going home, noting most clubs would happily take whatever duration he wants.

Everyone needs to stop speaking in absolutes on this "its not about the money" is stupid. Of course he wants to get paid. Conversely "its only about the money, just pay him" also seems dumb, he clearly has other factors in his decision making process.

If it turns out he leaves because were trying to short change him THEN go burn Linton Street to the ground, i for one dont think wed be stupid enough to do that.

Dude

You said Nas has agreed to stay, and that his manager is trying to squeeze more money out of us. I said Nas has a say in what his manager is doing. I don't see that as being complicated... at all.

And I'll say it again.... as I've said over and over...anyone who thinks the money we've been throwing at the likes of TDK won't influence how our current players feel going into their own negotiations is straight up trippin'. It just human nature.

To me, the club needed to identify who of our current group they wanted to take us forward, and do everything they could to lock them down before dick swingin' this war chest to every half decent player outside the club they perceived as gettable.
So it’s only about money when it comes to staying at the saints but not about money when it comes to leaving and paying him the market rate - which is set by the 2 SA clubs, isn’t good enough?

Because he isn’t worse off with our offer that needs to be made clear.

The $1.4m we are offering for 26+27 is the same amount of money he would average in SA over any contract there.

Or we can agree it’s his agent - which is what Caroline Wilson said is what we believe is happening.

We just cant win with the media no matter what we do.

If all reports are correct, Ports and Crows deals are front ended with the first two years at 2m/year. We’ve offered around 1.4m/year on a 2 year contract. Would you be leaving 1.2m on the table?
2 years to start. There would certainly be an offer for way more on the table for when he extends.

The SA "2Mill offers" are not 2 mill a year - heavily front loaded and much less later.

Not even sure why you’re replying to me here tbh.

In any event his manager represents him, claiming his manager is going against his wishes seems dumb too.

Chris Scott said last night he'd abolish Father Son because it's an outdated concept and while academies serve a purpose, need to actually pay the proper amount of those players.

Notice how no one is criticising him today.

Except many longterm deals front end contracts. We ae and the Adelaide teams would all seem to be offering this. We certainly are front end loading TDKs.

You are comparing a Front end loaded contract with a 2 year deal.

If Nas took our 2 years and then signed in Adelaide after that he would more likely make more money than if he went direct to SA.

Agree

Agree as I doubt this is the case at all.

I think his manager has said something along the lines of, let’s not settle I think I can get you more.

As opposed to Nas saying I want more.

That’s a very big distinction at play. Which fits with the story as reported

Bird in the hand worth two in the bush. 4 mill v 2.6. What happens if he has a career ending injury in year two?

The key distinction is that his agent is telling us to offer a 2 year deal.

That’s not what the clubs ideal outcome would be.

So again, that’s not an issue caused by the St kilda FC

Agree

Agree as I doubt this is the case at all.
I did say generally, pure to note that as a general rule, obviousy there are broad exceptions.

Im not comparing anything. I didnt make any comparison to anything other than to note Nas circumstances are unique to general contracts and terms (in that he clearly doesnt want a long term deal from us but does for his SA based suitors) the financials arent really relevant as THAT comparison isnt equitable.

And Nas is agreeing to do that.

Pretty pointless distinction at this point.

Respectfully don’t think it’s that black and white and if you believe that’s the case, then Nas only wants to sign with us for 2 years on exceptional money and doesn’t want to consider his long term future at the club.

Kinda paints him in a negative light.

Pure coincidence of course than the Cats CottonedOn that they can move players from outside their Academy Zone to Geelong Grammar to be inside their Zone with the AFL just rubber stamping it. After nabbing a player from the St Kilda Zone just watch the Geelong Grammar Enrolments rocket.

So offer him a ****ing 2 year deal then. Do what it takes to keep arguably the best player in the league.
We need to keep him AT ALL COSTS and I mean that literally.
This semantics and playing a hardball pissing contest is too smart by half.

If it was a choice of keeping NAZ and not getting TDK, I know what I would take.

He was 2 x 2 mill, just say yes FFS. He has the whip hand.
How much do we want to keep him?

FMD this skirting the edges is just incredibly stupid. He wants two, we want 5. Just make the bloody deal.

No, I suspect Nas wants the 2 years to assess the club and his manager is absolutely trying to maximize his contract value and Nas is listening to someone who knows more about it than him.

It’s a business for all parties, Nas/his manager trying to squeeze every last dollar out of all parties for himself/his client is just what he should do.

Both parties in this respect represent one person and are trying to do what’s best for him, I got no issue with that and don’t think it says anything about his character at all

Scott is actually correct. On both points. Good on him. At last someone is publicly endorsing Bassat. It’s not a club President though.

Trouble is, Geelong have already won multiple Premierships off the back off multiple Father-Sons selected with second and third round draft picks.

Which is galling for clubs that have never benefited from the rule, such as St Kilda, who have also lost Grand Finals as a result of it.

It’s time to abolish all zoning. Immediately. No more. Open and uncompromised draft, including Father-Sons.

Watch the Northern clubs squeal like the parasites they are.

Won’t happen though when you have their Agents such as Swann and Harley now working at the AFL.

This will be an unpopular opinion but its almost time for saints to say the following to NAS.. in my view of course.

Here is the offer and it's good until..... date.
We love you, you love us, but currently, out club is being dragged thru the mud and we are expericing significant reputational damage as a result.

If you want to go to Port, tell us know and we will start working on what a deal looks like. If one cannot be reached to our satisfaction, we will start working with Adelaide. After all, you do want to go home to SA - that's the priority right?

If ade can't satisfy us, then you'll be off to the draft and land where you land. If you are still around when it comes to us we will re draft you.

Sorry this sounds harsh NAS, but we are trying to build a club for sustained success and you are a huge part of that until you make it clear you are not, at which time we will be looking after St Kildas interests not NAS's and not PA's. We have other players ro reward and sign and cannot do this until you make a decision.

And yes I am prepared to lose him for nothing for thr club to make a stand and reclaim some control. No I don't give a stuff what the media thinks and the whole but it will affect players in yue future is crap too.

5 rounds left in the home and away season and 10 weeks until the end of the season proper.

Not even close to ultimatums yet.
