Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
It’s also been reported he actually doesn’t want to leave the GC. Quite likes it up there. Weather/lifestyle can be quite accomodating vs VIC.Ben King comes out of contract as a restricted free agent next year.
It has long been suggested he wants to return to Victoria
Especially if the reported EH demise is on the cards. If we're trialling anyone, I'd be hoping it'd be Eddie Ford.
Reckon this guy's got some genuine ability AND has a bit of mongrel. A number of Norf fans not happy they let him go.
Good player just fell behind Curtis and Zurhaar in the pecking order, which is understandable. If we're trialling anyone, I'd be hoping it'd be Eddie Ford.

If you're a small forward with that kind of speed and only averaging 2 tackles a game something is wrong.Thank you for proving my point. So when they were actually decent:
-First year plays 2 games.
-Second year as a 20 year old in a good team still, averages are goal a game and 2 tackles a game.
-Third year plays 6 games - major hamstring tear throughout the year.
-Fourth year - 17 games, 16 goals.
From then on out WC dont win more than 2 games a season.
He's shown plenty more than most small forwards on our list. Instant upgrade on White, Durdin, Fogarty.
Also becomes just about the fastest player on our list which the club has noted as a priority.
He's shown plenty, you just weren't watching.

Agree on Darcy. He was very good in the second half of the year when the VFL side picked up well.DGB is no good, i would be very concerned if we offered him a contract. Our VFL team finished 13th I would be hoping we are looking elsewhere when looking to plug holes. Hogg may be the only exception as he showed a bit late in the year.
Frankie lit the wick of the rocket that Motlop needed.I can see a couple more conditional players being shown the door.
One thing I did notice was the change in Motlop after the confirmation of Voss for next year. He had been drifting a bit, but as soon as the club backed in Voss, he arced up again. I reckon a couple of players were thinking "oh no here we go again".
You could say the exact same thing about Sam Walsh. Should we trade him?We seem to be recognising the harsh truth that the most important 'ability' a player can have is availability.
Quite simply, you need at least 30-32 players on your list who can slot straight into a role at AFL level. That allows you 6 or so draft picks who can develop for a year or two.
The last two years seem to be about that. Clearing out Marchbank, Martin, Cunningham last year crushed our depth and contributed to our ladder slide, but they were all perpetually injured. You can say the same now for Silvagni, Cincotta and Docherty. And also Lemmey - there just isn't any point in carrying highly speculative 18 year olds if they can't even hold down a roll temporarily to cover injury. Hollands - same problem here, if you can't play reliably.
Strangely, I think you can say the same for TDK and even Curnow, albeit to a lesser degree. But TDK has missed 4-5 games every year except this one (and his form dropped off after an injury in 2025), and struggles against monster opponents which is NOT what you want in someone you are paying $10m. And Charlie - has enough injury worries that you at least listen to offers.
It means going backwards, at least on paper. For supporters it feels like giving up hope, but surely we realise now that the 'hope' of 2022 was an illusion caught up in things like 'if Marchbank, Martin, McGovern and Williams are all fit, we can beat anyone'.
I guess the thinking is to put together a consistent 30 who can plan, evolve and grow together, rather than being so luck dependent. Long term I think it is he right call, if we can manage expectations across the journey
100%. You gotta find those players who are actually good enough, but are getting squeezed out of the 22 for other reasons.Good player just fell behind Curtis and Zurhaar in the pecking order, which is understandable.
I think this is a culture and expectations reset. I am cautiously optimistic. I am sane.
Is there a chance Ollie Hollands can be that hard running inside/outside mid thats played on ball. In much the same way Holmes or A Brayshaw are used. Not necessarily full inside mids, but start there and are the transition midfielders?Lachie Cowan - Jacob Weitering - Nick Haynes
Nic Newman - ???????????? - ???????????
Ollie Hollands - Patrick Cripps - ???????????
Marc Pittonet - Jagga Smith - Sam Walsh
Matt Cottrell - Harry Mckay - Zac Williams
Ashton Moir - Charlie Curnow - ???????????
Adam Cerra - ?????????? - ??????????? - George Hewett
I pretty much see it like this. The question marks could be filled internally by some promising kids like Wilson, Carroll, Lucas, Dean etc but with the club clearly stating that we're going to be targeting speed and runners in over the off season I'd imagine we'll be looking to bring in some mature options and hope if the youngsters come on in leaps and bounds that at least they're there as depth options.
Spargo? He's not going to be cheap, and we have a much bigger requirement for half forwards, especially if we move Lij on.
We want to try and get better not get worseKamdyn McIntosh delisted by Tigers, could be handy. 30 years old, could provide some reasonable experience and cover, and be TDK's headband replacement in the side.
I fear for Malcolm should we bring him in.100%. You gotta find those players who are actually good enough, but are getting squeezed out of the 22 for other reasons.
My shopping list right now is:
Eddie Ford (DFA) - out Elijah, in Eddie
Buku Khamis - cheap option as 3rd forward/back
Ned Reeves - trade in, offer the #1 ruck spot (sorry Pitto)
Max Gruzewski - trade in, would be a great 3rd marking tall, similar to a Morris
Malcolm Rosas - wouldn't cost a lot, would walk into our 22 right now as a small forward
I think it was Jim who mentioned Jacob Wehr earlier. Unrestricted free agent, and I remember we were reportedly interested in him in his draft year.
FOn a side note, I tried accessing some WAFL game replays to get a bit of an idea of Liam Reidy, cos all we really have is the highlights package of when he was at Frankston.
Not easy to find replays - must be a contractual thing - but the 2024 WAFL Grand Finals is on Youtube, where Reidy was playing ruck for Peel. I watched some of it last night, and all I can say is that on first sight, he looks a genuine plodder.....and I'm talking genuine. Basically would make Pitto look like Maxy Gawn.
Had no real ruck craft, and his follow up work at stoppages was pretty much non existent. Of course only a very small sample size, but unfortunately some of the more informed Freo supporters on the main board say the same thing, and has no real AFL qualities in his game.
IMO, we gotta make a real play for Ned Reeves. No world beater, but is an AFL quality ruckman. Apparently the Hawks want to keep him and reportedlky offering him an extension - but he's currently stuck behind Meek and running around in the magoos. Offer him more $$, more years, and the #1 ruck position, and I reckon he could bite, especially if he misses out on a gig in this year's finals.

It's funny how this is the overwhelming toe the line narrative now.We need to support Voss and the CEO... because if we keep letting the tail wag the dog, we won't have a dog in the game any more.
Surely we'd have more chance of helping Lij than that basket caseTrain On
JUH (if he’d commit and we think we can help him)
I might be wading into risky waters and getting ahead of myself here, but I distinctly remember having a bit of a laugh when Hawthorn brought in guys like D’Ambrosio, Mabior Chol, and Lloyd Meek after moving on some big names.
Yes, they had some early growing pains under the new coach, but it really reinforces that the right system and structure can elevate players and help them perform to their strengths for the good of the team.
Hopefully, we can pull off something similar with our own “under-the-radar” depth players like Khamis, Reidy, Petrucelle, and others who might come in this off-season (as Wright hinted).
Not if involved another player. remember it was the players who banned Lij not the clubSurely we'd have more chance of helping Lij than that basket case
Where did I come at Voss? I'm lamenting the fact that we are going to lose a player in Hollands that makes us considerably better on-field. I tend not to get to caught up in the speculation - it is simply a shame that we have not been able to capitalise on bringing a very talented player to the club.
Yes the Saints were into TDK early, and I've stated numerous times we have no business matching it. Again, it's a lament that we are losing a type that transforms our game (and yes I'm talking about the pre self-preservation TDK). Earlier intervention by the club on both TDK and Jack may have yielded different results. Who knows? Sliding doors moments.
Dead rubber games? How odd. Would have thought games early in the season when we were fighting for finals count, but that's just me. I'm not the sort of poster that would highlight your multiple posts praising Jack's games in defense, but we both know they are there. I'd be happy for the club to pay fair market value...I'm sure all players would like to be paid comparably to peers.
Don't know about AA, but Jack certainly ranked high in a number of key defensive metrics pre-injury, and his stats compare very well to newly minted AA Josh Battle. Not like he is a world away.
