We don’t have to do anything remember. Charlie has a 4 year contract. So if GC want him and we want Humphrey and Walter then that’s what we get. Or else they don’t get him. Simple really.

Think Chesser and Khamis could be really good gets for us.

Think they're exactly the kind of budget targets we should be chasing. Bit of dash and flair, good skills. Of course they have some limitations, but you've gotta accept that if you want a player for a second or third rounder.

The trick now is finding players whose strengths cover gaps in the current list, and whose weaknesses can be covered or minimised in some way. Khamis isn't big enough to be a focal point down back or up forward, but he doesn't need to be with Weiters and Harry (and probably Charlie). Chesser isn't a hugely physical player, but he shouldn't need to be with Cripps, Hewett, Cerra and co doing the bulk of the grunt work.

The rest will be down to developing a game plan and drilling it into the group so guys like this (and Carroll and Hollands and Moir etc.) can use their strengths to the benefit of the team.

Both align with list needs and would command modest contracts. Will likely take a few years to build that mid level depth that the top teams have but it’s a good start.

I felt we were very thin with tall depth this year so if we can also add Gruzewski and have Blight train on as a potential SSP, I think the list will look far more balanced. This is especially the case with HOF out for the year already.

Jagga, Chesser, Cottrell and a (hopefully) fit Walsh will no doubt help with our running and transition game. Hoping there are some reasonable options available through DFA or we can find a way to upgrade our TDK compo to get ahead of a bid and pick someone like Lindsay to add some quality ball use.

There have been suggestions that Gold Coast is not the only option for Charlie.

Curnow to Geelong - How would that eventuate?
EG: Max Holmes plus F1
or something outside the box like
Shannon Neale (AFL ready KF, 203cm 101Kg, 42G 18B 101HO think Riley Thilthorpe) +
let's say Matofai-Forbes (listed as a defender and recognized as a powerful player with great foot skills. Boasting a booming left foot, Matofai-Forbes also has leadership qualities, named captain of the Jets in 2024.)
+ F1

Curnow to Sydney - How would that get done?
EG: Chad Warner + Braeden Campbell + 1R
Angus Sheldrick
+Braeden Campbell + 1R + F1
There are not many options here to really consider.
Sydney will not trade Gulden or Heeney and Warner is most likely headed to WA at some stage.
Geelong would not trade Max given how important to their structures he is and nor would they move on Shannon as he is their future Key Forward.

Hoping we target some genuine fwds. Half/med/gen/small fwds. Doesn’t need to be Zac Bailey level. Leg speed, goal sense, some creativity.

Don’t want us just targeting ‘one big fish’.

both parties say no.

I hope we don't give up much for them

They're both token picks surely. One hasn't been best 22 and the other has had extensive injuries. These are buy low pickups that opposition supporters hate because the upside of keeping them is better than losing them for nothing.
If we moved on Motlop we'd be in the same boat- selling a guy for a nothing pick where you're better off holding if possible.

Come on, Khamis isn't the worst bloke to have on a list of 44
Buku is an OK player. Gives his all. Not sure the athletic third tall with OK skills changes the outlook too much other than giving a dash of pace as an option. There are plenty worse around. Price becomes the key.

Reidy a journeyman ruck dominant in WA state league needing a decent step forward to be a regular at AFL level. Ticket back to Victoria at minimal cost with a significant chance of game time opportunity. Hopefully a late bloomer who can add to our senior options.

Chesser another looking at repatriation. Eagles but the bullet and operated on the ankle. Playing the long game to give him a chance to realise his potential as a first round pick. Backfired with us poaching him, again the cost becomes an issue. Acres was rumoured as a West Coast target before we were linked with Chesser. May facilitate a swap to benefit all parties.

If we are doing three trades (minimum), at least Dean and Ison and likely a couple of rookie elevations (to allow return to correct quota), we are going to need to part with another two or three players to facilitate this. It could conceivably be more as we surely need a KPD cover and a “throw” At a small forward. I still can’t take my eyes off Lindsay near the top of the draft as well.

Fascinating period to come.
