Buku is an OK player. Gives his all. Not sure the athletic third tall with OK skills changes the outlook too much other than giving a dash of pace as an option.
Buku ... all sizzle no steak ... not unlike CJ
What Carlton doesn't need is soft outside Players who lack toughness and scream 'kick it to me'
We need tough ball getters ... not list cloggers. Ok Players are just OK ... not good enough unless folks are happy with Carlton being OK. I'm expecting better than mediocrity. I'll be disappointed if Carlton recruits receivers and not feisty ball getters.
Don't waste the money ... aim higher or save for someone better.
No bargain bin types ... steak .. not sizzle

Who are free agents in 2026 (aside from Butters)? IMO, it feels like we want to hold draft capital this year and next year (for F/S), using picks this year and next, and maybe having a bit of salary space moving forward, which seems to me like a FA may be in mind for 2026...
It is VERY slim pickings. Clubs have prepared well for Tassie draft.

Carlton in a perfect world needs to find

1. A genuine 2nd KPD
2. At least 1 genuine flanker with leg speed and kicking ability
3. At least 1 HFF who can kick goals and find inside fifty targets.
4. At least 1 small forward who can tackle and kick regulation goals.
5. A mongrel ruckman who can take a mark on the boundary when required or plug a gap in the cnter of teh field and take a mark when required.

Then it needs to add depth it can rely on to step up.

2/3/and 4 can all be found for cheapo deals.

1. can be developed - buit not ideal for 2026
5. is harder and will take time.

now add $2-3m in salary cap to add class.

Carlton is in a very good position compared to what many on here think.

There have been suggestions that Gold Coast is not the only option for Charlie.

Curnow to Geelong - How would that eventuate?
Max Holmes plus F1
or something outside the box like
Shannon Neale (AFL ready KF, 203cm 101Kg, 42G 18B 101HO think Riley Thilthorpe) +
let's say Matofai-Forbes (listed as a defender and recognized as a powerful player with great foot skills. Boasting a booming left foot, Matofai-Forbes also has leadership qualities, named captain of the Jets in 2024.)
+ F1

Curnow to Sydney - How would that get done?
Chad Warner + Braeden Campbell + 1R
Angus Sheldrick
+Braeden Campbell + 1R + F1
There are not many options here to really consider.
Sydney will not trade Gulden or Heeney and Warner is most likely headed to WA at some stage.
Geelong would not trade Max given how important to their structures he is and nor would they move on Shannon as he is their future Key Forward.

The team that sent us Billie Smedts and Darcy Lang won't be doing that trade.

And Sydney would decline, impolitely.

Does anyone think we should go after Jayden Short as a finals/premiership experience

Also pick up Ryan Burton / Arron Francis on a free

Voss, Switkowski, Butts, Bailey, King, Buckley, Biggs, Reeves, Lewis, McInerney, Pink Amartey are some

I’m not sure why Buku is listed as RFA. Surely he isn’t a top 10 paid player at the Dogs.

There are plenty of out of contract players next year who do suit our needs. A lot at GWS.

Premiership experience is overrated unless it’s a leader (Hodge, Lewis, Mitchell types)

Hopefully Motlop doesn’t leave
To Port his dad shared it on his Insta story about being third generation.
He can be frustrating at times but is still young and developing in a tough role.
2 year deal on the table should get it done.

Durdins , forgarty, Duffy , Monahan, are the ones to move on.

They're both token picks surely. One hasn't been best 22 and the other has had extensive injuries. These are buy low pickups that opposition supporters hate because the upside of keeping them is better than losing them for nothing.
If we moved on Motlop we'd be in the same boat- selling a guy for a nothing pick where you're better off holding if possible.
Hello.

I, like my fellow Eagles fan the page earlier come in peace.

When you say token picks, how token do you mean?

This is a weird case where even though we were almost certainly delisting the good chap six weeks ago but then he was given one last shot when we had some injuries and finally showed a little bit to warrant mild excitement.

As such he was offered a deal comparibile to Carlton’s and he’s still chosen you.
This makes this a weird case where we want the guy, and a nothing fourth round pick won’t cut it.

It also needs to be pointed out that hypothetically we could re draft him through either the PSD or ND, but also pointed out that our list management team has a large supply of Diddy’s finest baby oil and allows it to be used on itself. We don’t have a history of playing hard ball, not even with the new hierarchy, see paying pick 14 for out of contract Liam Baker last year as an example.

So. Where does that leave us. I have no idea.
Perhaps it ends up being a swap for Holland? I have my own reservations there but we have been linked.

I need to stress I’ve got a lot of time got Carlton. Great place, great fans and if I were a Melbournian instead of a Perthian I’d be a bagger with you lads and ladies. This is no way an inflammatory or troll post. If I’m off the mark, it’s well intentioned.

Cheers.

What did you guys pay for SPS? It'll be something similar.
