I’m just glad the club aren’t thinking Butters wins us a premiership as we won’t be trading for himI’m surrounded by crows and port supporters- most would agree
Totally agree, I think the outcomes of this list overhaul sit to the upside. The errors of this list build are legacy which we are all aware of, has been gone over adnauseum, and they will only be unwound via these moves. As long as we hold our line, I think our list will be in ok shape for next year.I 100% agree it's the soft / easy option to chuck it in and go elsewhere.
Carlton just put themselves in this risky position though by failing to get it together - ever.
I don't think Curnow will be going anywhere but losing him wouldn't be the end of the world either. We need to reshape the list significantly. Losing TDK, SOS, Curnow is definitely bad on paper but it gives Wright / Austin the chance to reshape this playing list into something that could actually be functional / consistent.
Get butters and we win a premiership

I never thought we’d win a premiership because of juddNot really.
We said that same with Judd - it only cost us Josh Kennedy (former pick 4 - 2 x Coleman, 3x all Australian), and picks 3 and 20 (theoretically could have been dangerfield/rioli and Sam Reid/Levi Greenwood)
Correct we have fallen behind the times apparently no farm land left in Carlton.Well according to most media pundits - Superstars are willing to take less to get to their preferred destinations.![]()
Yep they’re the only ones I know of, it also says in relation to these leagues that players can have no trade clauses put in their contracts. The American ones allow trading without consent
Carlton and * here have all the power here, the players have no say, they can posture all they like but clubs need to start driving a harder bargain, the AFL did raise the idea of limiting contract sizes recently as well.Agreed, AFLPA won't go for it. Though the Charlie and Merritt situations might be some sort of catalyst.
He was also talking about teams talking to contracted players. Which is a bad look.
Not only that. Kennedy and Masten (Pick 3) won a premiership at West Coast. Judd didn't win one at Carlton. So we lost. Not really.

Yes, we have the Power in this instance.Carlton and * here have all the power here, the players have no say, they can posture all they like but clubs need to start driving a harder bargain, the AFL did raise the idea of limiting contract sizes recently as well.
No idea how a boss of an organisation thinks he can stop its employees looking at other job opportunities,
Gov, EH and Charlie trades to come so upgrades available with plenty of room for Dean and other FS.
I just watch Butters and see this incredible leadership which is exactly what this club needs.

First round picks are useless for us this yearAlso timing.
Imo the biggest issue with out recent list builds has been trying to take short cuts to accelerate the build/finals rather than committing to the draft.
If we hadn’t of traded for Judd, we would have kept Kennedy, and perhaps drafted a couple of other solid players with picks 3 (master/Palmer/Henderson/Dangerfield/mcevoy/rioli) and 20.
Similarly with saad and to a lesser extent cerra trades.
IMO trading first round picks for players should only ever happen when a club has demonstrated some level of ability to reach and compete in the finals
I have less of an issue with jager smith trade as we would have expected our future 1st and future second picks to be much later this year than it turned out out to be
They could actually be quite usefulFirst round picks are useless for us this year
Dean, Ison, Chesser is an excellent starting point.Dean and Ison is all we want draft wise. We’ll sell the other assets with a view to bring in value and position for 2026 draft.
Dean, Ison, Chesser and Robey/Lindsay/Grlj would be an even better starting point!Dean, Ison, Chesser is an excellent starting point.

Agree in principle but if we had $1.5m spare I'd rather target 2 v $750k or 3 X $500kWe are closer than a lot of people on here think. A good run of injuries, some good young talent and a talented, quick senior midfielder and I would expect to be top 4.
Agree and I really emphasise with Merret, to me he has always done right by them, has committed to them long term and over and over they have failed him.Yes, we have the Power in this instance.
It's not a good look for the AFL. And you know all they care about perception. Especially Merritt is getting (seemingly) ugly
Butters, Bailey and King will cost a mint, Mcinerney a realistic option, the cupboard is pretty bare free agency wise. We're in an interesting situation re cap space over the next couple of years.
With TDK, JSOS, Doch, Elijah, Gov and potentially Acres and Curnow we should have an absolute bucket load of cash free'd up for some trade targets.
Unfortunately with the new bid matching system and our F/S and NGA prospects we're quite hamstrung in who we can actually bring in over the next two off seasons in terms of having picks to trade with.
Butters, Bailey, McInerney and B.King the only real standouts in terms of RFA in 2026 which means if we miss on them we'd most likely be sitting on a mountain of cash for multiple seasons.
In some ways that could be a blessing in disguise as we'd be able to bank cap space and front end some deals with certain players, in another... We would be essentially wasting the final years of Cripps, Harry, Weiters and others primes.
Very interested to see how we approach things this off season.
Not for us. No point having a first round pick around the point Dean is rated (which according to Cal Twomey is around 8). Use them to trade for a player, or trade into next years draftThey could actually be quite useful
Why would they be useless?First round picks are useless for us this year
Ideally we’d attack free agency hard, however the options become limited with every club’s attempts to sure up their list ahead of the 19th license. We're in an interesting situation re cap space over the next couple of years.
