$$$$$$$Saints and Demons are terrible, but still can attract players, we can too
That's a fair effort from a non-native to AFL considering players like Billy Wilson have had a whole childhood in the game and aren't that much in front of him.Interesting re-signing. That fills our Cat B quota for 2026 along with Duffy, so we'd have to take Clark and possibly Gresham on the senior or Cat A rookie list if we were to select them.
Monahan is an interesting one. Totally out of his depth in his first year, but in 2025 showed a lot of improvement to the point that he actually looked like an AFL player at state league level. Definitely not against him getting another year, although it will be a make or break assignment.
While I like having room for another throw at the stumps, I am happy we have retained Rob. He has the skills, the athleticism and the want. Just needs to enhance his awareness. Has potential at either end or as a big strong run with type in the O’Connor (Geelong) mould.Interesting re-signing. Sydney won't accept that for Rowbottom.Hypothetical
Syd/GC - Rowbottom & 10 for Rosas & 7
Syd/Carlton - 7, F1, Hayward & Florent for Charlie
Duffy came back to us a bit worse for wear after the year off, but still shows signs of his run and agility. Hopefully we are working to get him lean and moving into something resembling a midfield role, because he had a natural talent for that before the knee. Not sure about Duffy's status. We signed him along with Monahan, but of course he did his knee in the Gaelic Football final and missed 2024, so not sure if that was technically the first year of his contract or 2025....although I would assume 2025 was the first year.
Our comms dept are pretty ordinary with communicating this stuff - they're more concerned about nice fluffy pieces to keep us all happy and joyous. It's pathetic that the first we hear about Monahan's re-signing is via an Irish newspaper.

I wonder if Vossy is held back a bit from the attitudes of a couple of our board members around this style of play?Voss as a player, or any of his team mates would have 110% done it. Voss as a coach letting one of our boys do it, I'm not sure but I'd like to see it
I thought I saw that you could have more than two cat B rookies, but you couldn’t have more than two Irish playersInteresting re-signing. Pretty sure that's outdatedI thought I saw that you could have more than two cat B rookies, but you couldn’t have more than two Irish players
I believe they did away with the term "Irish' a few years back and changed it to 'International' - I assume so they it can cover other nationalities including USA, Canada etc.I thought I saw that you could have more than two cat B rookies, but you couldn’t have more than two Irish players

Only thing i disagree about is firstly Khamis who imo is more around a third round pick at best, Chesser is more around a pick in the 30’s (which would be a bargain) yourself and others may not agree but the kid will be a belter of a moneyball pickup…Sounds like :
Curnow > Sydney 1st + F1 + Hayward.
I’d like to work Dattoli into the trade somehow but concede there are legitimate reasons why Florent may be included despite personally not wanting a bar of him and his 4 year contract.
So then roughly :
Picks 9&10 traded up for a pick to secure Robey.
This guy seriously looks the goods
Pick 19 to mostly secure Dean.
Sydney F1 added to our natural F1 to mostly secure Walker.
Khamis mostly secured with current 2nd we hold.
Chesser, Reidy and Ison mostly secured via future pick upgrades/trades or even some kind of return on Acres and/or McGovern.
Would imagine next season’s trade period we would be armed and dangerous in the FA market
Projecting forward a year or two :
* For the sake of the discussion, let’s put Newman Williams Hewett Saad Haynes Pittonet to the side …
Wilson Weitering Dean
Cowan O’Farrell Chesser
Walsh Cripps Hollands
Robey Kemp Hayward
Moir McKay Motlop
O’Keefe Cerra Smith
Walker Lord Khamis Ison FA?
The forward line has transitioned towards a more modern mobile attack with the possible acquisition of a quality FA to further strengthen this division.
Wilson and Chesser add pace and kicking from defence.
Smith Robey and Walker add the star️ power !!
Hayward Moir and Ison add polish whilst Khamis plays as a genuine swingman.
Carlton are ready to emerge into a new era … both on and off the field …
It's 2 Cat-B players max. Some of the AFL literature remains out of date.I believe they did away with the term "Irish' a few years back and changed it to 'International' - I assume so they it can cover other nationalities including USA, Canada etc.
I remember we had this debate I think it was last year on the number of Cat B rookies allowed. Pommie also came into the conversation, and thought it was three. It's hard to get a definitive answer cos the info on a number of AFL pages are old and have been superceded.
According to this one though which is fairly recent, it specifies that clubs can include a maximum of three players on its Rookie (Cat B) List. So you may well be right.
Skip straight to page 10.
I agree. Hayward and pick 10 minimumSounds like :

Fox sports have pick 10. 2026 1st and 2nd rounder and Hayward for Charlie and pick 40I agree. Hayward and pick 10 minimum
I think I could live with that.Fox sports have pick 10. 2026 1st and 2nd rounder and Hayward for Charlie and pick 40
Id rather Curnow + speed synergy etcHayward and bulk top picks is probably how this goes down.
I personally like the idea of Carlton moving towards the modern game. Key forwards don’t win you flags anymore. We need speed, skills and synergy more than we need Curnow prancing around kicking 6 against bottom 8 teams.
Doubt the Swans will give up that much.Sydney 1R 2025

Feel like it would be largely influenced by the deals offered for himI'm genuinely interested and it's difficult to tell because there are lots of hypothetical trades being thrown around for Charlie. Perhaps a poll...but do people want to trade Charlie or do they want to keep him?
What a crap deal. Pick 13 and 38 in a crap draft + a "b" grader for a generational player, that makes you a top 4 side+ pick 45 next year in a good draft
