I really can't see how they can possibly bring that rule in now that trade period is almost done...

I know, but what scares me is it’s so unfair and unreasonable that it’s exactly the type of thing this current administration would actually do.

I can see how it might seem that way, but just as an example, Port are in the same boat as us next year with Dougie Cochrane projecting to go top 2, a decent 2nd round pick might be enough of a Sweetener to get a club willing to slide back form say pick 11 to pick 16, which may be the difference in being able to match the required points
Port now have our 2026 2nd rounder, I’m just preying we have a plan in place to replenish that pick in our 2026 draft hand to some degree as it may come in very handy if we need to move one of our first round picks up a few place to match point required

The AFL haven’t given the thumbs up yet, but the very few reliable people in the media have indicated that Port will jump through the hoops that they need to, to make this happen.
Also another good indicator is what Port are putting in place so far this trade period, this years draft is pretty stacked with South Australian talent predicted to go in the top 30, yet Port are on record saying they want no part in it and want to focus on moving assets into next years draft, so there obviously very confident.

I like this one, but am trying to keep up with list spaces. If say Curnow, McGovern, and E.Hollands are gone, and we bring in Hayward, Rogers and Khamis, my math says we have 3 Senior list vacancies (Dean, Ison, +1), and 1 Rookie to also delist (or upgrade). Is this correct?

If Cochrane is not allowed to be considered part of their NGA, they will want to do their best to get pick 1 anyway.

Yeah I think they’re setting things up pretty well, its like they’ve considered that ok this draft is loaded with local talent but rather then selling the farm trying to get back into this years draft, lets shift our focus to building the best hand we can for next years draft and we can always try to lure the local talent we missed out on in this year back in a few years time anyway.

I think they’re definitely rorting the system with Cochrane, apparently he didn’t even know about his Indigenous lineage until pretty recently, but it looks like there confident they can make it happen, but the AFL still have to approve it and you never know, they might decide they don’t like this particular rort for whatever reason and shut it down lol.

Definitely be better for us if Cochrane is in the open pool, he’s a key position forward and would make him way more likely to go pick one, even that one pick drop would make big difference on points to match for Cody.

I don’t think it’s a situation like Carroll, where we said we would let him train on for a chance, or players like LOB and Kennedy that we needed to move to the rookie list. If it was a matter of moving him to the rookie list for list spots, we would have done so after the trade period, not as one of our first cuts. Pretty sure our rookie list is tight as it is.

We gave him three years on the list to develop. We could have given him a senior game in the last few rounds when the season was dead and we had injuries. I think we saw enough to think that while it’s low risk, it’s probably also low upside.

If we really wanted to keep him a live option, we can keep him on for the VFL side, but I don’t think we’ve even offered that to him. Plenty of other project forwards we could look at from state leagues we could look to develop.

McGovern could be traded, or delisted for another spot. Elijah could also be delisted for a spot. Speculation acres could go to, but I haven’t heard anything in the media. Then again, we didn’t hear anything about durdin until it happened.

Some observations:

• The Charlie trade needs to happen early rather than later - it will dictate how many spots we have and what other moves we make.
• We probably aren’t taking more than Dean and ison at the draft. We likely don’t want a pick ahead of Dean, even if we have capital for it.
• I really hope that we don’t back out of the Khamis deal due to list spots - we’d be just as bad as st Kilda.
• Given how tight lists spots are, it’s hard to see what the best outcome is for the Charlie deal. It’s probably at maximum one player and picks. But given list spots, we should value picks next year higher, even if it doesn’t improve us this year.
• If we do have capital this year from the Charlie trade, if we want to turn it into another player, we will need more list spots.
• Although there’s some good noise around Lij staying, we probably can’t keep him if we want to use the Charlie trade to net us another player (either directly, or trading in the picks.

I know the AFL are a powerful entity but Clubs must stop rolling over and showing their bellies by accepting this crap.

Equalization is one thing but penalizing teams with the Father/Son is not the answer.
It's penalizing teams unfairly and not evenly.

to me the least likely to hit AFL quality and probably the cheapest would be Fogarty, to cut / terminate, but I gather there's some culture aspects to that.

None, was plenty of chances to give him a shot at AFL level with Charlie and Harry injuries this year but never got close. TBF although he kicked a few bags in the VFL most of his goals were from 10-20m out when he just used his size, didn’t look like he had any AFL qualities, a bit like Mirkov.

Agree the Charlie deal needs to happen tomorrow to allow us the flexibility with what comes our way, but the AFL will want it delayed right until deadline to ensure clicks and every Carlton fan tuning into trade radio.

Chuck a seven year deal at $1.2m/season and see if you can create a stir in the chook house. The interesting thing about this proposal is that it probably wouldn't affect GC's ability to trade for Trac. Whether they can fit them both into their salary cap is entirely a different conversation.

I'd be looking to get a little more back if trading for Jed Walter as he's yet to really prove himself consistently at AFL level.

Anyone on this board who thinks Wright, Davies & Austin are going to settle for Rowbottom, Hayward or Florent Plus Pick 11 & a F1st is kidding themselves.
