I think Carlton haggle that pick 22 down a rung or two and Curnowngets done. Petracca obviously gets done and it sounds like Merrett wont.

I think Essendon are mad not taking that deal with where they are at but I am all for some Vic based Mutually Assured Destruction.

You only know one side of the story though because the Hawks are the ones leaking it all.
Pretty sure all sides have been leaking. We obviously don't know the full story but we do know Hawthorn made an offer, Essendon didn't amswer calls or an email, Hawthorn then put a timeframe on the offer so they could move on to hashing out a pick swap with Collingwood. The timeline of events is relatively obvious.

Sydney can afford to blow away picks and players because they;

2014: Top of ladder finish. Picked up Heeney bid on at #2 with pick #18
2015: Top 4 ladder finish. Picked up Mills at #3
2016: Top of ladder finish. Picked up Florent at #11
2017: Top 6 ladder finish. Picked up Ling at #14 (Normal year for everyone else)
2018: Top 6 ladder finish. Picked up Blakey at #10
2019: Bot 4 ladder finish. Picked up Stephens at #5 (Normal year for everyone else)
2020: Bot 3 ladder finish. Picked up McDonald at #4, Campbell at #5, Gulden at #32
2021: Top 6 ladder finish. Picked up Sheldrick at #18 (Normal year for everyone else)
2022: Top 3 ladder finish. Picked up Konstanty at #20 (Normal year for everyone else)
2023: Top 8 ladder finish. Picked up Green at #16 (Normal year for everyone else)
2024: Top of ladder finish. Picked up Dattoli at #22 (Normal year for everyone else)

Notice how all the players they didn't get a leg up with or priority access to haven't worked out anything close to the ones they got a little boost out of.

The Swans have enjoyed a window of being handed top five and top ten players while sitting at the top of the ladder. Their talent is disproportionately high. They can afford to lose players to bring in Curnow.

They’re place holders anyway. Tired of people bringing them up every time we’re linked to a defender. Will always maintain that the two in the WAFL were better but towards the end of the year when we were winning most games you had to do a lot wrong to get dropped.

He’ll come in and be b23 sure, but I’d be surprised if we notice a significant difference with him in the team vs Walker/Simpson
I think he gives us the best of both TBH. Walker's defensive work and speed with Simpson's neat and creative ball use.

Merrett I could understand if he had 1 year left on a contract but he has 4 and he's the captain. Also they don't want to help the Hawks win a premiership... Wouldn't trade him unless the Hawks offer was a no brainer, as it stands it's meh because all they have is meh.

Isn't it nice not having any skin in the game during the final day of the trade period?

He's also a captain

The 4 year age gap doesn't outweigh that merett is the far better player AND the captain of the club.

Hawks need to pay up if they want to poach
I disagree, the 4 year gap at that age is gigantic. its 80+ more games of the player in their prime

Yes but look at the way it was framed.

Essendon were being childish because they won't share their toy that's theirs and they had first... by not responding.

But the kid in the Hawks guernsey over there having a tantrum because the kid with the toy he wants won't engage and share...

All the blame is on Essendon which is wrong. Hawks were told no originally and still tabled an offer which was ignored.
