I’d give anything for us to trade this guy in over the next year or two.
We just have to find a way to get him across.
He’s just got that bit of swagger and arrogance that the team is crying out for. We’d genuinely have one of the best midfields in the AFL if Warner could be added.
Ideally he doesn’t win a flag at Sydney beforehand too. Keeps the flame burning as fiercely as ever.
There aren’t that many premiership players traded to second clubs that win flags again.

His performance in the 2022 GF speaks volumes. Can't help but feel that the club are still all over him, which might go some way to explaining why the powder's being kept dry this time around (from a salary perspective anyway).

A two year extension was really a 'wait and see' contract. Sydney will be better in 2026 but if they aren't still in the conversation in the last couple of weeks of September, you'd think Freo would be asking the question again.

Joe brierty was putting in the work at the Brownlow

Getting chad all his rounds apparently 😂

Warner is a must have if he ever wants to come over, I've seen a few people at times on here say they aren't interested anymore, I just don't get that though. If Chad Warner wants to come to your team, you make it happen.

If Curnow ends up nominating Sydney I’d be going so hard for Chad this year, something has to give if Sydney want to bring Charlie in and we could unlock it

Free agent in two years. Just be patient.

If he was coming home this year, he wouldn't have signed a contract.

I agree Warner is a must have, we need more A graders in the team. Geelong and Brisbane bat quite deep with their lists. If he wants to come home it won't be until he is OOC in 2027. Chad isn't really a ball winner though, so we have two years to sort that area of our midfield out. Hopefully Ras and Johno improve that area of their game which would allow us to spend our remaining capital on Warner.

I think the drop in interest is because it has seemed like he has had a down year, but overall it has been reasonably similar to last year. Just that there is less hype with Sydney not being up and about. There was extreme hype at the start of last year when Warner was challenging for best player in the whole competition, before dropping off a bit in the second half. The main discrepancy this year has been goals kicked, but that could be a product of Sydney having many of their best players injured and Warner not getting the opportunities he had last year.

I'd easily take him over Petracca, Merrett, Cripps, Simpkin. If we get any of those it torpedoes our salary cap room for Warner.

Just looking through the Geelong VFL team and two names stood out stats wise

Tobyn Murray - looks like he plays half forward, average 15 possesions and a goal a game.

Two AFL clubs have reached out to Colac Tiger Tobyn Murray ahead of this year’s draft, following his breakout season with Geelong in the VFL.

Jay Polkinghorne

Looks to be undersized key forward, so think he struggles at the next level but Tobyn Murray would be worth a look with a late pick.

They may be better. Grundy had a very good year and they are highly dependent on that happening again. Don't Grundy has produced a season like that in a while. Certainly having Gulden healthy is a big improvement.
With the unknowns in their forward and back lines it's hard to tell. They would have to ship some out to improve in one season.

Thr standalone VFL teams have generally been the main ones to look at for mature agers historically.

Of course there's exceptions and Richmond VFL has been many good lately at producing AFL players.

If he's turned things around a little and there's a clear plan to house him and support him, maybe even have him living in a smaller, less partyish place like Northern NSW like Fingal or Brunswick Heads then it could actually work.

But yeah, logically connecting the 2 seems like a disaster. Then again, getting out of the fishbowl worked for Hogan.
There's absolutely no dropkicks or coke heads living anywhere near the Goldie so it'll be perfect for him

Aren’t this years prelim finals teams all at least 2 years older than that? As in the 23 that played in the day?

Were still pretty young and should be targeting mature age best 23 players if we want to contend in 2026.
