He is the type of player who could play well until mid 30's.
5 years of A grade football is worth a lot.
It is very fair offer, but I wouldn't call it overs.
fingers crossedIf Merrett and Barrass were the missing pieces for the Hawks it makes sense that they'll have traded three first round picks, two second round picks, a third round pick and a player for them.
They really are going to be all chips in.
Last year they had pick #35 and #64, don't think either played this season.
2023 they took Watson at #5, McCabe at #19 and hasn't played a game yet then Ryan and Dear (F/S) at #46 and #56. Dear looks good.
2025 could be starting at #43 this year
If the Hawks don't strike in this window they could be missing for a while and Mitchell could walk off into the sunset, leaving behind a team with nothing coming through.
Nobody is playing A grade footy at 35. Certainly not midfielders anyway. They will get 3 years at the top if they are lucky. 2 would be the median expecation and he's one back injury or bad hammy from it being 0.He is the type of player who could play well until mid 30's.

zorko, gawn, gunston, elliot, libba, sidey all aorund that age id say going at a very good level.Nobody is playing A grade footy at 35. Certainly not midfielders anyway. It's all chips in already even before they come back with an upped offer.

I would hold him if I were them. Piss off the Hawks and piss off Merrett.Tough one for Essendon.
I actually think there's significant value in keeping Merritt. He helps you win games, shields the kids a bit. There's value in that for a rebuilding team.
Libba is the only player over 32 ranked in the top 50 midfielders this year. There are no players over 30 in the top 15. The higest ranked midfielder in the competition this year over 33 was Sidebottom at 54.zorko, gawn, gunston, elliot, libba, sidey all aorund that age id say going at a very good level.
merrett will defo been in the mould of zorko and go to the backline at the latter stage of his career, brilliant user of the footy
Jiath to Melbourne
I have not been following this Trade Period much this year. When does the madness end tomorrow?
Are they doing that weird media black out again or has that been binned?Yep 7.30pm EST
I'd be surprised if Merrett wasn't still at Essendon by COB tomorrow tbh.Melbourne joining in as part of the Merrett trade? They might need another club
Nek minnit Tayrn Thomas slots in and has an AA level year !Hawks going for Merret then missing Petracca and anyone else is pretty funny.
Well the sun does set in the west so if he wants to do that and take over here then leading Freo to a flag having previously run hawthorn into the ground and failed I’d be all for itIf the Hawks don't strike in this window they could be missing for a while and Mitchell could walk off into the sunset, leaving behind a team with nothing coming through.
Just to throw that wasp nest into the living room..
