Between them and Geelong getting blue balled on Marshall it'd actually be a net positive for future trade negotiations for every side, especially Essendon. It shows there's actually, finally, consequences for truly bad faith negotiating and you can't just strong arm deals and set arbitrary deadlines.

I'll be honest I think Hawthorn offered more than enough for Merrett.

Its more a lesson for players that if you're contracted and request a trade it doesn't mean you'll get traded.
