I like the selection of Harding. His stats for Murray Bushrangers are great so why did he get overlooked?

Cox has a maximum of 2 years left, Darcy is injury prone. Harding is 19 and atheltic. If Riddle doesnt develop then we need a developing ruck. With the small forward selections we made i dont see Scerri as a requirement.

Depends how you look at things.
Murray and Sweid are similar to Murphy Reid. Mid/forwards. As is Switta, Bolton and Frederick. They all push up from half forward.

The traditional small forward pocket (which I agree each of the above can fulfil at times) is more Dudley, and Kickett (add Switta who will likely play deeper now - but gets a lot of injuries). Scerri seems more traditional small forwards pocket pressure forward. A replacement for Switta but also deeper forward pocket. Kickett is one who will need to develop along with Riddle and others over time in the WAFL.

Murray I see half/forward wing at this stage.

Sweid isn't a pure small forward, he's a small mid who has been shoe horned into half fwd due to his size. I suspect he will take place of Bruce when Bruce rotates into the mid. Bolton was also fantastic and did his most damage for us in the middle. He's superb at centre clearances, i50s and scoring chains. I suspect the club sees these 3 players as attacking mids, rather than pure small forwards.

That leaves Duds, the other new kid, Leon and the train on to fight over the pure small forward role. That competition will raise the floor of that position (and honestly, duds is a pretty good floor even off his output last season).

If we have Brayshaw, Serong, Young, Ras and Johnno coming through the middle, with support from Bolton, Reid, Jackson, Sweidy (sometimes Clark? I noticed he would push up to be around stoppages later in the season) I think that's pretty great coverage across the midfield. We also have JOM, Wagner, NOD and Sharp.

Personally I think Worner has potential to be a wingman, he is disciplined, selfless, hard at the contest and can take good contested grabs. He is also able to keep the opposition from marking. Just not sure he has the tank? It would be skinny side only though.

Scerri averaged 12.4 disposals, 3.8 tackles, and kicked 5.7 in 18 games. Wonder what we see in him
that's as an 18.5 year old playing against men in the VFL. Apparently he is a pressure forward, with speed and skills, who just relentlessly tackles.

He does this stuff:

"His team efforts are unbelievable every single week. Last week he had six or seven efforts in a row – he went to one contest, then to the next one, then to the next one, because they (Sydney Swans) were chipping it around. He kept going and going and in the end he lunged at the last bloke and they kicked it back to us. We went down and kicked a goal. It was incredible. That’s the sort of stuff you can’t teach.’’*

He played 18 games and won best first year player at the Bullants in the VFL, and averaged almost 4 tackles a game as a small forward.

I reckon there is the thought he and Sweid could jostle for Swita's role when he invariably goes down with injury. Murray is more of a Freddy player. Kickett is very much a project player.

Worner could possibly play a wing role ala Kamdyn McIntosh at Richmond?

Similar builds, courage, overhead marking, but limited disposal skills. As you say, it's just the tank that is a query.

Funnily enough Worner was drafted as a wingman. In terms of tank, he was the best matchday runner in his draft year based on GPS numbers, trained with Craig Mottram and ran a 6:07 2km time combine time. In a Vic Metro v Vic Country trial game he had 30 disposals and 15 marks off the wing.

He seems to have finally carved out a first team role with us, but there is no doubt the positional flexibility is there, particular with regards to his tank. At 188cm he is around the Blake Acres/Mason Wood/Kam Mcintosh taller wingman height also.

One thing Mcintosh had over all of them was good speed and power, but that isn't a necessity for a wingman.

At the end of the day there's no harm in trialling these players. I suspect they are going to throw Harding back to see how versatile he is. If Scerri snags 3 or 4 when playing in the intraclubs like Voss did when he was training as an SSP I can see us giving him a list spot with a potential round 1 slot. Ultimately we are just giving these guys the opportunity to prove they could potentially play AFL

Yep. Interestingly, it's been suggested Harding has some Jackson like qualities, as he basically plays as an extra mid as ruckman, using his athleticism, and is a similar size. Here he is thundering away from a centre bounce to slot one....

Everyone is looking at our draft like we're overloading on small forwards. I think the two we took were targeted as midfielders that push forward. The only pure small forward we drafted is Neon Leon, and he's pretty raw.

We don't have any glaring list deficiencies so I'm ok with us taking the best available.

I agree, we now have a few "project" type players on our list (Whan, Kickett, Luke, Nichols, Riddle, Carr) that we can afford to be patient with them as most are local so they wont be going anywhere soon. We also have some more advanced that could plug gaps now (Draper, Davies, Murray, Sweid, Simpson, Dudley, maybe Ollie Murphy?). Add to this, players like Banfield, Worner, Macdonald, Odriscoll, Sharp will be fighting out between Peel and best 23. List is in a solid position at present.

Saw this video yesterday. It's a very impressive piece of play.

Gee there’s a lot of 1-4 years players returning today.
The group really is young isn’t it? Aish, Fyfe, Brodie, Walters gone. Big holes to fill
It is, but I like to think the replacements are dog hungry and we will be a much quicker team across the ground.

Sweid, Murray, Luke and Kickett.

Now Scerri

To go with Bolton, Switta, Duds and Reid.
Let alone Freddy.

All the small forwards…

Scerri was a More :)

Leadership aside and with all due respect to the careers those players had I don't think any of them would've been in our best 30-odd players next season.

Think our best three additions (McVee, Sweid and Murray) will actually offer more to our depth than these four would have.

Ras can easily fill Fyfes hole
