Back by popular demand. However...

There has been some aggro from publishers of articles in recent months about sites that copypasta their content onto other sites, particularly the paywalled ones, which could lead to fines and whanot for those that do it. Apparently there are copywrite laws for these things. As a result we can no longer have full articles reposted here, so if you come across something then please refrain from nabbing the whole thing and just post the link. Quoting a paragraph or two and linking the source is fine however, just don't get greedy.

Here's the updated site-wide rule: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/please-read-re-copyright-posting-newspaper-articles.1389553/

Here's an example of what you can do:

"If West Coast was the gold standard for how to operate, then Fremantle's arrival into the AFL in 1995 could be viewed as a series of cautionary tales.

Despite eight wins in that debut season, a series of poor recruiting choices meant they didn't play their first final until 2003."

If they believe that us not making finals until 2003 was solely due to "a series of poor recruiting choices" then I have a bridge to sell them.

Thanks for your understanding.

Interesting listening to Razor Ray on 360 last night commenting on the Jackson play on after he marked the ball.
Ray said he did not go back behind his mark. His step was a step forward so he had played on.

Stats are mindless BS that keep unemployables, like King in a job.
Only stat that counts is the final score on the score board.
I mean that's one view, I don't think it would cut it in the AFL though.

Data can help make decisions and guide strategies if you don't blindly follow it or just apply confirmation bias (cough King cough).

The general public doesn't generally get the data or stats that would be most useful I imagine though, we get the summarised versions that give a general idea of how a game was played.

Still mindless BS😁😁

Guess who...

*speed of ball movement chat trigger warning

I watched On the Couch for the first time in about a decade this week. I had no idea what the speed of ball discussion was about. All I saw was that early in the game Freo was moving sideways to get around the Pies defence in the middle early on, and then through the middle as that fell away for whatever reason.

Yep all members get 10%. Has anyone had any troubles with their voucher barcode? The shop kept telling me it didn’t exist
In case anyone is on the edge of their seat regarding the barcode, the way the code was emailed to me was like this (I’ve used my code in case anyone thieves are lurking).

20-25FR2442808G

The 20- is referring to the value of the voucher. So the correct way to enter the code is:

25FR2442808G

Not really sure how you’re supposed to know that (I don’t do a whole lot of online shopping) but there you go.

Ahh that was exactly it, sorry I didn't remember the details otherwise I could have been more helpful.
I have a vague memory of clicking on something which told me that it was only 'x' characters or something, either on the website or email.

Either that or at least you might get the inside word on some old african tribe trick to add 5 inches to your old fella so I reckon you can’t lose either way
Hell yes that will give me 6!

Genuine question.
TBH I hadn't really thought of the difference between speed of ball movement and directness of ball movement. I assumed speed meant speed towards goal. Surely it can't mean that if you pass quickly from side to side back and forth that you're moving the ball quickly??

Slow response but if you're still interested they measure 3 different stats... and combine them to call it "Speed of ball movement". They're individually super interesting but combining them and calling it "speed" is misleading IMO.
  • Time to Dispose: How quickly players get rid of the ball after receiving it.
  • Distance of Disposal: How far the ball travels with each disposal, including both towards and away from the goal.
  • Distance Towards Goal: How much of that distance is towards the goal
In Q4 Vs Magpies Freo's time to dispose went DOWN slightly... that's right down! We took slightly LONGER on average to dispose of the ball. But when we did, we went more direct. Thats the key... DIRECT ball movement thru the corridor seems to be the key, which is of course one way of moving teh bal faster but it doesn't mean playing on and making quicker decisions.

We also take more meters towards goal per disposal than any other side.

For the Freo stuff skip to 3:45

The big thing about Simmo compared to Cornes & King.

Is the fact one he has been a coach for a long time so he knows actually what clubs & coaches are looking at when analysing games.

And the fact he was a coach means he doesn't revert to do outlandish statements to shitbag anyone when backing up his analysis.

Its always clear and concise with vision to back up what he is saying.

100%. A "breath of fresh air" is sometimes thrown around loosely, but he truly is a breath of fresh air in the footy media landscape. Smart, concise, measured, and because he was a coach, he can communicate complicated concepts like changes in style/game plan in a way that is easily digestible. As someone who has never played footy, I appreciate this a ton.

Yep 100%

Simmo coached WC to a flag he is clearly a smart man even if we may have hated his guts cause the club he was coaching.

I dont put all there mess entirely on him its a collective he was part of it but i suppose at the end of the day he won a flag and sometimes that's the price you pay getting decisions like a fair few list management wrong and it snowballs from there.

Hopefully the media is shifting away from assuming a popular player will be the best choice for a media role..

Almost as though those who are capable are already being paid by a club to be capable for them - not available for TV or radio.
