Back by popular demand. However...

There has been some aggro from publishers of articles in recent months about sites that copypasta their content onto other sites, particularly the paywalled ones, which could lead to fines and whanot for those that do it. Apparently there are copywrite laws for these things. As a result we can no longer have full articles reposted here, so if you come across something then please refrain from nabbing the whole thing and just post the link. Quoting a paragraph or two and linking the source is fine however, just don't get greedy.

Here's the updated site-wide rule: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/please-read-re-copyright-posting-newspaper-articles.1389553/

Here's an example of what you can do:

"If West Coast was the gold standard for how to operate, then Fremantle's arrival into the AFL in 1995 could be viewed as a series of cautionary tales.

Despite eight wins in that debut season, a series of poor recruiting choices meant they didn't play their first final until 2003."

If they believe that us not making finals until 2003 was solely due to "a series of poor recruiting choices" then I have a bridge to sell them.

Thanks for your understanding.

Yes but it counts as one of our away games and gives us an extra early season bye.
What bye!!!!! How can you have a bye without playing a game!!!
It is all smoke and mirrors BS being thrown around by the AFL.
We get onefor the season.

I love the article re Darcy. I have said all along that the duel ruck combo would work.
Darcy is needed to quell the effect of rucks like Xerri, Nankervis, Wills and Goldstein.Darcy can out muscle them and use his body against them
He needs to play on Thursday night to subdue Goldstein.
Jackson relishes the contest whith the lesser bodied players.
A match made at Fremantle.
Ok, now that Essendon has decided to rest Goldstein and play a debut ruckman and another ruck on his second game do you still play Darcy?

Still think it comes down to how he is feeling, I wouldn’t give up the advantage and I would play Jackson a fair bit as a midfielder. Place a strong clamp on their Captain and best player and we should be in a good position.

I don't know, have Essendon said they are resting Goldie!!!
As Longmuir has said, horses for courses.

That's the whole point. Currently we have a pointless bye in round zero. If we participate in Opening Round we could have a bye in round 4 or 5 after we've played 2 or 3 away games already. Plus our existing mid season bye.

Only guesing but maybe Darcy sits out and bring back Deadly.
But have a feeling Darcy plays.

would have thought it's a great opportunity for Darcy to gain some touch and momentum heading towards finals playing at home against a debut and a 3 gamer. After the Xerri beast, it would seem no more difficult than what he would face in the WAFL anyway.

Is that Clackas in back row 2nd from right ?
Yup. I happened to be chatting with Zac just before this game. He told me that Pav was also part of the squad, but he got dropped for the final. The other guys were stirring him that it was probably the first time he got dropped in his life.😆

Lessons learned in Fremantle’s round eight thumping at the hands of St Kilda are behind the five-game winning run propelling them towards the finals, according to coach Justin Longmuir.

Longmuir said he was preparing for both Caleb Serong and Andrew Brayshaw — who both sit in the top 11 players in the competition, according to the coaches — to cop tags from former Dockers coach Ross Lyon.

St Kilda stopper Marcus Windhager has been in the spotlight this week for his nagging tactics in a battle with Collingwood’s Nick Daicos during their defeat on Saturday night.
Brayshaw was held to 18 touches and Serong had just 15 in round eight. But Longmuir backed the pair to work through it this time.

“Last time we played they ran two or three tags and tried to lock down our better players,” he said.

“I’d suggest maybe Caleb or Andy will get that task. It won’t be the first or the last time either of those get tagged this year.

“They have confronted it over the last five weeks and embraced that role and embraced the tag really well. I would expect them to do the same on Sunday.”

I can see players like Treacy & Voss, jogging in "shotgun mode", if required.

Expect the umps to pay some holding frees, very early.

Here looks like a good place for this: went to a Q&A tonight featuring Voss and Reid and MC'd by Clark. Was good fun, full of stuff that wouldn’t surprise anyone here, plus a bit of non-footy stuff about Voss and Reid. Very entertaining, and Clark makes for a great MC, as anyone who watches the pod would expect, though this was a little bit more relaxed/uncensored, such that comments felt a bit less media-trained and genuine.

Anyway, a few things that stuck with me, worth recording in their own right but also, in some cases, for how they contradict some viewpoints persistently reproduced here / in the media:

*Voss and Reid both loving it here and very happy being part of the club. Reid loves the culture.
*Clark couldn’t speak highly enough of Ryan, and basically confirmed that he’s been playing with cracked ribs and still doesn’t blink at the prospect of running through a brick wall.
*relatedly, a real strong sense came across of them being very aware of playing for the fans, owing it to the fans, etc.
*there was a player-led heart-to-heart after the Saints game, recognising it was unacceptable and committing to doing better
*Longmuir gave it to them “with both barrels” after the Geelong game
*the one that really stood out for me was Voss talking about a playing group dinner last night where Fyfe spoke “incredibly well” as he does, and Walters after him. Walters said something about how, when he’s sitting around a fire in his retirement talking about playing footy, he’ll be saying what he is most proud of is the fact he got to play with Fyfe. While recounting the story, you could see how much both Fyfe and Walters mean to Voss (and it was on Reid’s face too), despite being relatively new to the club. The whole “walk taller when walking out with them” thing comes across as a cliché, but you could tell that this was no line trotted out to please the fans.

Lots of other stuff, and nothing especially new, but a strong sense that this is a really connected and committed group.
