True! I can't help feeling what I feel! You can't pretend not to feel something. I wish all I focused on was the sheer bliss of victory on the last day. I will experience that when the siren sounds and we are in front in the big dance!
My focus is on enjoying the day. Could be our last, so best to make the most of it

WTF. Did I miss something in this conversation? There is no last for the pies. We will have our day many times. Until the end of time,or, well at least until the end of the AFL, life the universe and everything. I am hoping for at least another decade in my life, thats good enough for at least two from the pies. I would think with a diet of IPAs jmac you have more than one in you.

I'm with you. Where's the resilience? It's a good thing that some fans don't barrack for the Saints. We've already had a top 10 year in the history of their club. Hopefully the ride ends in triumph, but it's already been a great ride.

A week after the season finishes - player movement begins and the club is already positioning for the following season.

I'm glad to know I am in good company. All sort of one eyed sportspersonship aside, my view of footy is that it extends beyond premiership clocks, AFL tinkerings and even father sons selections. We have had a day in the past, we may have our day in the present but I am confident we will have our day in the future and beyond. With Fly as our coach and the quality of the ethos of our club success will never be far away. Geelong and the Hawks have both proven winning breeds winning. The old days of the Colliwobbles are past.

Does anyone watch the AFLW?, I watch it a bit and although the standard is atrocious "Don't try and make it look pretty ", but there's something about it that keeps me watching. They don't hold back and smack each other really hard. It's a conundrum
Nope - reckon it's a horrible look women playing footy.
10 year old me would have loved there was a women's comp for me to have a crack, but it's just awful.

Following the Saints and other unsuccessful teams would be frustrating and disappointing but going close to the ultimate success repeatedly only to have your hopes dashed is heartbreaking.

Resilience is continuing to turn up when times are tough or you are fearful. I can't help how I feel. I can only control what I do. I'll be in the stands on preliminary final evening and at the GF if we make it, cheering the boys on as I have been doing for over 60 years.

Your disappointment isn't far more worthy than the disappointment of others. Whatever resilience is, it isn't moaning about having lost games of footy 50 years ago.

I remember sitting on the back porch as a 9yo and listening to the 1970GF on the transistor radio. I have experienced all the losses you have and yes, it does haunt you a bit but for me it changed after 1990. I've experienced 3 flags since 1990 and I'm very happy with that. The past will just depress you and worrying too much about the future will just give you anxiety. Put it behind you because we've never experienced anything like Fly as our coach before. It's been a great ride

Absolutely the best ride of my life of following the Pies. As I said, telling someone not to feel what they feel is pointless. It's what you do when you feel the emotion that matters. Emotions come unbidden. We can't "undo" them with psychology. The three flags have made a difference for sure-I thought I'd die without seeing one! But as much as I use that logic to calm my fears, the nerves remain.

I recall, Big Cam Mooney say he still spends more time agonizing over the 2008 loss (and his role in it) than he does celebrating the fact he is a triple premiership winner. Tell him so stop being so negative. He can't help it. It seems to be human nature. I've also heard Leigh Matthews say he was always driven by fear of failure rather than the joy of success. Make of it what you will.

1970 to 1989 were terrible times to barrack for Collingwood. They always seemed to be able to get to grand finals but just kept losing them. Ronnie Wearmouth still has mental health problems from playing in so many losing grand finals. I've managed to put all that behind me but it wasn't easy

The siren blows for about 30 seconds. So in my lifetime I’ve only enjoyed about a minute and a half of jubilation feeling that amazing buzz when we won those flags.

You gotta enjoy the ride otherwise you’re wasting your life waiting for the next 30 seconds of joy.

This year will be 2 flags in 3 years. The bad days are long gone

That euphoria 10 seconds before and after the siren is like nothing else

You do you, okay? How about that? The lectures from other people telling me how I should feel is fascinating. I have experienced following my team when it finished last on two occasions and I've followed a team who has lost grand finals when leading by big margins- I know what hurt me more.

Where did I say my disappointment was more worthy than the disappointment of others? I'm sure Saints fans would agree. They went so close to winning flags in 2009 and 2010. I'm sure Saints fans and the players spend much more time gnashing their teeth over the loss and draw than they do the wooden spoons or bottom four finishes.

As for moaning about having lost games of footy 50 years ago- I didn't know there was a time limit on regret or disappointment. If you don't feel it, I'm happy for you. If someone came on and posted about their feelings after the result of a football final, I would not consider it to be my business to tell them they are wrong to feel that way or that they should stop feeling that way.

last we did better than that - 35 and 36 back to back - how many people are even still alive that witnessed and remember that?!
