Obviously we have to get there and not taking anything for granted after 2019, but if we make it beating cats or hawks in a GF would be unbelievably satisfying. Our best is good enough.
Bring our manic pressure, and we generally win. When its not there, we struggle. Its that simple with us imo.

Decided sleep was more important than watching Hawthorn make it to a prelim. Only saw first quarter.

While I get enjoyment that Adelaide didn’t even win a final, despite being so bitter than Rankine was going to miss a grand final (gotta get there first), I don’t enjoy that Hawthorn is 2025s Carlton of 2023. Lingering about, making it to a prelim and the real threat that we would meet them in the Grand Final should we make it.

I now want Geelong to win. We at least complete against Geelong. Hawthorn we go to water and let them bully us, too often!

Geelong v Hawthorn should be a massive Prelim. Can only hope they belt the crap out of one another. Hawthorn usually play thug footy.

Anyway don’t want to get ahead of myself. Have to still beat the winner of tonight’s game. But now, we would have to beat one of our bogie sides to win the flag.

Assuming we get to a GF, then Sam Mitchell needs to beat his bogey side to then get to his bunny side

S Mitchell record vs Geelong 11-18 as s player, 1-4 as coach
S Mitchell record vs Collingwood 15-7 as a player, 3-3 as coach

For me, I hope the Cats win, as I am confident that we'd again be bullied by Hawthorn if we play them again.

Keane is getting slaughtered by Gunston.
Noticed that Gunston do so, against most defenders, by actually avoiding direct contest with them.... Gunston is very lean these days and he gets goals by being open or having an extra second to react.

Mihocek needs to do something similar... rather than wrestle with defenders, actually get away from them and inform your team mates that you plan to do so during game planning so they know to kick to space ahead of Mihocek rather than Mihocek trying to beat his defender one on one in heavy traffic and contact. Leave the traffic and pack marking to Cox who will bring the ball down.

With Hawks,

Some here laughed when I said earlier this season that Hawks have advantage with invidiual players skills and athleticism. Newcombe, Wedell as just two examples, would beat most Pies players individually because both are athletic, skilled and very vigorous young men. Pies don't have young bulls who would physically and athletically beat these types.... pies only chance is by beating them to space and by taking away their disposal options.... via structure.

Hawks weakness, is they have cocky and over confident players who tend to get their heads down when things don't go their way.

Hawks fast starts are not a coincidence... the earlier they get high... the harder it is to catchup because they have veteran defensive line who can then or intercept deflect entries.... making it a catchup game most of the match if you let then get up early.

Geelong would know this and likely try to get the early punches while clamping down defensively.

If Hawks get a couple of veteran leaders better than Sicily... they could be another dynasty... would absolutely hate that

Also notice that the Hawks forwards actually try to avoid all flying for the same contest - except Chol but I don't think he has the greatest footy IQ. The rest of them are very smart footballers. You'll rarely see Ginni amd Wiz flying against their key forwards, but you'll often see Elliot and Bobby flying against McStay, Mihocek or Membrey.

Very glad we're not facing either Geelong or Hawks and one will knock the other out next week. They are both excellent teams.

We still have to make it through he prelim, and I have confidence we will, and then still face, probably ...... Geelong.

I'd rather face the Hawks because their midfield isn't the same level as ours. It's their one weakness, papered over by Newcomb's stellar performances. Quell him and we win.

Geelong are more like the hydra. Too many heads to cut off.

Hawthorn is very beatable. We did it earlier in the season by a lot plus, they start punching on and having fights if things don’t go their way, just getting under their skin puts the Oppo in front

Our bogey team in grand finals were the Brions and we hadn't beaten them that season but Fly found a way for us to win.

If we get to the grand final and we were to beat our ultimate bogey team of the last 30 years then Fly deserves a statue.

But alas first we need to win the Prelim.

Chol is the only Hawks player I like apart from Gunston, Battle amd Barrass.... everyone else are arrogant prices.

Addition of Gunston was huge for them... Battle and Barass were cherry on top.

In truth... everytime the ball goes inside hawks forward 50.... I am surprised if Gunston Chol or Watson don't touch it amd get a shot for goal. Yes I'm scared of them.

We proved earlier in the season that we can beat them. Our last loss came after a five day break.

At our best we can defeat any side.

Dawson has not been too inspiring for the supposed best captain in the comp

Yeah, and that’s an understatement. He has not handled finals footy heat well at all. I’m sure he can bounce back next year but he’s going to want to shake that at some point with a strong finals performance. The other top mids from this year have had good to great finals games (Nick, Rowell, Anderson, Smith, Holmes, even Newcombe and Jordy) so his performances and the captainship stand out for the wrong reasons. Crows might be short an inside mid and should go for Trac or Merrett.

Amateurish effort by the Crows in this finals series. Nicks and his brains trust have a lot to learn.

I know it’s been said over and over, but to allow themselves to be so distracted by the Rankine issue, to not address it head on, deal with it, and get it out of the way ASAP, was simply dumb. Also not helped by the incredibly biased SA footy media who couldn’t let it go, and kept it bubbling away. Crazy stuff.

The Pies showed them finals footy and intensity last week. Was expecting them to at least show some of what they’d been schooled in this week, and after the flaming they received in (this week’s) footy media. But no. In come the happy Hawks with their smug coach and their irritating Hok Ball, and they had a picnic.

The game was over in the first 4 minutes. It was clear then that the Crows didn't come out to play.

That game last night, outside the 2017 Grand Final, would have to be Rankine as one of the Crows most insipid finals performances in my ever shortening memory banks.

I like seagulls. That was a great hit on McDonalds head. The runner down the back is priceless.
Must have been searching for the chip on his shoulder.
