That's some solid analysis right there. It's amazing the club only figured it out just now. Both are equally to blame as each other….obviously the rookie spot debacle was a shortsighted stuff up by the club and Sandy rightfully were pissed, but the relationship has been unstable for some time and the current model we’re running is outdated and very unstable as the clubs appear to be on two totally different pages.
In reality, we should’ve read the tea leaves and followed Hawthorns/Box Hill lead and completely swallowed Sandy up years ago… or completely left them and gone alone (pending financials). There’s a reason Richmond left Coburg and the Dogs left Willy 12+ years ago and they have both won premierships and had players come through their system to be drafted..where as Sandy are consistently bottom dwellers or middle of the pack and god knows who was the last player from Sandy to be drafted.
The reality is that our club has finally taken its head out of the sand and now knows that the model isn’t working and wants total control for the good of the club and developing our young talent under our system.
Sandy also needs to recognise this is and realise the Saints position and make a choice to accept it or go alone.
