The Simpkin interest is making me very nervous, please stop, he isn't A or B grader he is garbage at best, anyone thinks otherwise knows dicks about the game!!! I can't believe the talk.

JUST STOP IT!!!!!!!

I wouldn’t say garbage

He’s a perfectly good midfielder and at his best can really help our clearance situation

There’s just no scenario where North aren’t starting negotiations at a first rounder and he’s just not worth that to us

If we’re having a crack at Butters (and King?) next year then we need to be armed with every first rounder pick we can muster under these new rules

I think Simpkin is a perfectly ok/good player in isolation

But as you add more and more layers of context to a trade for him he becomes less and less worth it for us

You’d also think after the Schultz trade we would have learned our lesson
What lesson was that? That people going early on a player or trade can get it wrong?

I'd be very wary of recruiting any high-profile player with 4+ years left on their contract who is trying to force their way out of their current club - especially if they're supposed to be captain!

Glad we didn't get Oliver. Losing guys like Pendles, Sidey and Howe over the next year or two will have a pretty significant effect on the team and I just don't think the potential instability of Oliver is worth the risk.

Connor McDavid is easily the best ice hockey player in the world and a couple of days ago re-signed with the Edmonton Oilers for two more years at the same deal he's currently on - 12 million per year - when he was eligible for a 20 million per year contract. His team has lost in the Stanley Cup finals the last two years but he's made winning a priority and left a lot of money on the table to give his team the best chance of succeeding. That's the sort of leadership and mentality I want Collingwood to develop and hopefully Nick can take some inspiration from someone like him.
McJesus is apples to Nick's oranges. He has signed a two-year deal which essentially says if the Oilers don't win the Stanley Cup then I'm out of here.

Crazy talk on the North board about Simpkin and what he's worth.

We need to bring in more A grade talent and don't see that in Symkin. Good player and at 28 isnt going to get any quicker. I just think he is wrong for Collingwood at this point of time - regardless of the cost.
Collingwood clearly disagrees.

No?

That you don’t always have to pay overs for ok players

Let alone ok players in an area of the ground where you already have depth

We need quality mids at least. While Simpkin is a decent player, I just don’t think he’s worth what I would expect North to ask for.

We have Buckley's chance of landing Butters and 1 first rounder isn't going to do it. Which a grade players are you getting rid of to get a couple more first rounders?. No one will want our 2027 first either. It's fantasy

By all reports, we are going to have a crack at Butters

So how else do we do it outside arming ourselves with as many first rounders as possible?

Having a crack is miles off actually being able to land him. You answered your own question. Who is going to overpay for one of our stars so we can get a first rounder to overpay for another player. Geelong, hawthorn, essendon and the dogs would all be in front of us. The only way your fantasy would be fulfilled is if we sold Nick.

Hopefully Shane o Bree is the smarter one in the room and knows where to draw the line.

Keeping in mind , this is the same man who decided against nominating mcguane.

So I get the feeling that Sympkin is about as popular and needed as an STD...
Leek is my choice. No pun intended...
St.kilda pulled out of chasing Leek because even they realised he's not worth what they offered. If he's genuinely available for a future second I might consider it. I'd rather the STD

Bro…what did you read in my post?

Al I said was that if we’re having a crack at Butters, then we need to arm ourselves with as many first rounders as possible

I didn’t say “that will get the deal done”

I know but there's only one way to get those first round picks and that's to lose quality players. We have an opportunity to add a genuinely good inside mid for a future pick that's worth nothing and won't help us land Butters. You take the best you can for the position you're in, the rest is fantasy

IIRC Jamie Elliott has only ever played for us despite being drafted by GWS who traded him before he played for them
EFA

Yeah, he was prelisted specifically to trade under their establishment allowances.

Good thing that didn't happen then

A bit of a over reaction to the report of us being interested in sympkin
He is a good player, and for the right price worth it
Let’s wait and see happens

Another way to have 1st round picks is to NOT trade them away, especially for a player most of the competition wont touch.

We should only be trading 1st rounders for elite top end talents like Humphrey, Butters ect. If none are available, then you keep your powder dry and try again next year.

I mean, we could always end up finishing outside the 8 next year (not exactly that unlikely) which would give us potentially a Top 10 pick to pair with a future first to work towards trying to get a deal done for Butters
