Cochrane could be the #1 pick if the paperwork is approved. And Salopek in 2027 top 5.
And to match for such high picks you're gonna need a top 10 pick + another pick.
If you're a top 8 club, you're gonna want to hope your tied prospects are outside the top 5/10, otherwise you'd have to trade a quality player out

I think they’ve almost gone to far the other way with matching rules. Feels like there’s a middle ground somewhere. But that’s just me.

Yep. I'm never a fan of the "messiah" star player in a trade or FA. Especially in Melbourne you pay through the nose and it's very difficult to get value.

You'd want two elite mids. We have one and another who's there when fit (Jordy). Do we have anyone already at the club who could become elite? Maybe Josh with a full time move? If that's the case then adding Simpkin as a B-B+ mid is a good move.

I quite like Simpkin on limited viewing. He's good as a half forward and was better as a full time mid. If he can reproduce his best form as a mid he definitely adds to our team.

Cochrane top 3 and Salopek is tracking early draft. They also have Zemes Pilot in 2027 who’s on a similar level to Salopek (this is why they didn’t want academy and FS changes).

Just some food for Thought. Carlton laughed at geelongs offer of three firsts because they are likely all late picks that end up potentially around 20 with bids etc as with all recent drafts.

Those expecting our future firsts to hold value to grab Butters/king might need a reality check. Especially when one will be in the 27 draft which is full of Tassie picks.

Port and Gold Coast will match, and King/Butters will need top 10 picks and/or top players back.

That is because everyone expects Geelong to remain a top 4 team for the foreseeable future, particularly if they’d get Curnow.

Also, Curnow is contracted, Butters is a free agent. When was the last time (if ever) a free agent didn’t get to their destination of choice?

Additionally, we might be top 4 again, but there is every chance we fall down the ladder and could easily miss the 8.

Further, we have blown more first rounders then any other team in the last 10 years, we are a lot more exposed to this going sour then any other team, as we literally have no youth outside of nick.

It seems we're keeping a low profile at the moment, but it's definitely normal for a list manager to make comment, just as Rawlings has.

From what the media have reported discussions are not well advanced. I'd need to hear more before thinking we're definitely committed and will likely get a Simpkin trade done.
