A good trade period and AFL National 2025 Draft - NMFC - Based on current status

Cameron Nairn - Pick 20
Avery Thomas - Pick 21
Sullivan Robey - Pick 39
Jai Serong - Pick 57 > Hawthorn (Trade Acquisition)

Replaces list demographic that was delisted end of 2025.

Will be interesting to see if the club go down this path.
I think there's likely to be some better options at 20 & 21 than Nairn and Thomas.
I haven't seen Nairn or Thomas rated that high in rankings, so I'd be surprised, but recruiters may think differently.
Robey is pushing into top 10 calculations, so doubt he goes outside 25 at the very least.
I wouldn't be against Nairn/Mikunda/Pickett/Byrne etc. at 39, but I'd probably prefer a half back or defender given the plethora of forwards and addition of Spargo. Next years draft looks to have some good half fwds as well.

Let me see if I can get up to speed.
  • We started the off-season with 46 on the list
  • Delisted: Ford, Bergman, K Dawson, Teakle > down to 42
  • Added: Spargo > 43
Normally you can only carry 44, but the AFL granted us two extra rookie spots (max 46). It’s still unclear if those two will be retained for this off-season.

If the two extra rookie spots stay:
  • We don’t have to delist anyone else
  • We can draft the minimum three kids and land at a totally full list
If the extra spots disappear, two of the out-of-contract group (Phillips, Tucker, Maley, Payne) almost certainly make way.

Also, any incoming (eg. Jai Serong, Tyler Young, or others) would be taking one of those OOC spots.

So anyone we bring in needs to be:
  • An upgrade on one of those four, or
  • A clear list-need fit that those players don’t currently fill, and our trade targets would suggest these are KPDs, third-tall types, and defensive midfielders.
Is that about it?
This boggles the mind.. Ford goes but Tucker could stay? I wasnt a Ford fan by the end but thats enough to piss him off.

Bit of a "wild child" at St Kilda. Knuckled down at Hawthorn.

Nice fella. Had a few beers with him after the Adelaide game in '93. He was working under Denis and we were staying at the same hotel. He told us "you blokes are in for some good times". He wasn't wrong.
Didn't realise you bus boyed in Adelaide.

Out of Phillips, Tucker, Maley and Payne, the safest should be Maley but who'd know with some of the head scratching list decisions we've all copped in the last few years.

Despite his rough edges, he's the one with the highest ceiling given his athletic traits and as a KP player, he's an obvious point of difference.

It pains me to say this but who would be the safest if it were Geelong?

Maley every day of the week.

Hawthorn recruited two KPDs 12 months ago and haven't re-signed him for next year.

That should tell you a fair bit about what Hawthorn think of him.
You cant compare an outfit that bought in Newcombe and Masamao and barass with one that bought in ccj, tucker and biggy.

I don’t think come draft time that We hold both those picks either… I think we move up. Our picks are good places though. Early picks second day get good value as can assess again over the night.
The overnight discussions will almost certainly be based on if we prioritize a broken down hack that cant get on the track or another undersized forward with zero goal sence. Expect to see someone along the lines of drury taken with our first pick.

Could even involve some discussions on weather the dim sims were better than party pies.

There is always a slider… I think Ludowyke a chance to be there at that time. Project KPF not to bad.
Farrow the other I would like to make a play on.
Good attacking HBF would be my choice after a goal sneak.

Trade 2026 round 1 pick to get Dovaston.

Use the two second rounders to trade up for Farrow or pick up another running defender and a KPF.

Raymond Island isnt overseas bro

Well its like this LETSGOKANGAS, we're on a boat out in the ocean, we've picked up Charlie Spargo & Hugh Jackson from the water, we've essentially saved them from doom, but in the distance there seems to be another object in the water, we're headed over there to see what the commotion is.

You know when we get over there what Brady & Will will be saying..........

Even if its a crab stuck in seaweed we’ll fit them in half back.

Looking forward to the articles about the 'consensus' picks for Day 2.
