We got Stephens and pick 25 for our end of 1st Rd PP and pick 44.

Pretty much Stephens for pick 44.
We don’t celebrate much on BF our wins in Trade Lotto. But 18 months in Rawlings/Clarko picked well, and Barlow/Coaching staff have moulded him into a solid player. Credit to Dyl as well for wanting to make the change as well. He was surplus to requirements for the Swans with McInerary/Gulden on the wings, but would have been good depth for them when Gulden went down with his ankle. A shame Fraud Fischer and Lethargic Logue have not panned out the same way. They should be given one way tickets back to Perth.

Any idea of the players we missed as that is a better way to calculate true cost? The numbers don't mean a great deal to be honest...

That trade was used to get Fisher, which everyone hates but we also got pick 17 (for 25 and 21, the 21 became pick 29 eventually,) and so we ended up with Wil Dawson.

We really should have received an extra 2nd!

Poor negotiations, I'm disgusted.

Should we be expecting improvement when this awfulness occurs?

When we beat Carl in the AFL and VFL, we knew right there & then that the Rawlings/Viney combo had officially arrived. It didn't matter that we got a few injuries vs Haw and then a 5 day break into the Doggies game. One soldier out. One soldier in. And then even after that heavy loss, you guys still have guys like Banch, Goad, Tucker, Payne etc just waiting for their chance. There wouldn't be many clubs boasting that sort of talent waltzing around in their scooby's.
You've gotta hand it to Signor Rawlings.

Backline:
KPD - Comben, WDawson, Pink, Logue, Whitlock
Mid/Sml Def - Hardeman, Archer, Goater, Lmac
Distributor - McKercher, Harvey, Daniel, Fisher

Needs
  • Due to injury history, another mid-sized defender
  • Whitlock development
  • Daniel shouldn't be auto best 22

Midfield:
Ruck - Xerri, Goad, Teakle
Centre - LDU, Wardlaw, Sheezel, Parker, Powell, Simpkin, Phillips, Urquhart
Wing - FOS, Stephens, RHJ, Scott

Needs
  • Continued development from Goad
  • Pace in the middle
  • Size in the middle
  • Size on the wing

Forward:
KPF - Larkey, Maley, Darling, CCJ
Med - Curtis, Zurhaar, George, Duursma, Ford
Sml - Konstanty, Banch, Payne

Needs
  • Young, goal kicking KPF
  • Goal kicking small forward
  • Experience/development for Banch, Payne, Duursma and George

When I look at the list, the biggest need still seems to be in the midfield. We're small and slow in there. It's not all about centre clearances. We're lacking marking and pace in that group.

I'd love for FOS and McKercher to be in there. If Duursma had any confidence or aggression then he could be, too. Curtis and Zurhaar should get a run in the middle in most games. The talent is there for an elite midfield, in more ways than winning clearances.

It's hard to get out of defense when the mids can't take a contested mark. And they also can't keep up when the opposition move quickly back the other way. And even if they do get back they can't/won't impact in the air.

As much as I like them, the club should be brave with Powell, Simpkin and Phillips. They're AFL quality players but they are redundant and get in the way of us being able to mix things up in the middle. I'd be shopping Powell and Phillips for trades and moving Simpkin to full time wing or forward. If he can't crack the side in those roles then it is what it is.

We've used recent high draft picks on mids but they're not getting a consistent run in there because they're versatile, while our other mids aren't.

Moves
  • FOS & McKercher to the middle
  • Harvey to HBF (Hardeman and Harvey take kick outs)
  • trade Powell and Phillips (Duursma if he forces it)
  • bring in a young KPF (Gruzewski? JWhitlock?), a bigger wing, a young goal sneak and a mid sized defender with trades and picks.

Not suggesting Powell is home sick or disgruntled with our club in anyway.

He has value and we have options to rotate through the mid that is kinda stagnant at the moment. Not quick enough perhaps not physically big enough.

You'd have to trade him somewhere he wants to go unfortunately.

I have no issues trading him, there's not really many that I would.

I’d trade Daniel

Other than that it’s spot on
