We have no way to trade for someone like Merrett unless someone like Warner leaves.Maybe a controversial opinion, but if we were to lose Amartey and were able to get another quality midfielder I’d be very open to that idea.
The idea of Amartey to Essendon and Merrett to Sydney was floated last night on Ch 7, and while that’s extremely optimistic on our end, something along those lines would be very intriguing to me.
Not quite sure who that midfielder is, but I’d be pretty wary of giving Amartey a big deal at decent coin (anything north of 800k average per annum). I’d prefer we rolled into next year with Charlie, Logan & McLean as the three talls, and used the freed up funds to chase another difference maker in the middle.

Not sure on whether Mellis has nominated , but expect a player on the long term injury list
He's a Cat B rookie, so he doesn't create a list spotWoildnt it be Hetherton. Hes out the longest ny far

Has to be King doesn’t it?
He gets good info , but not sure about , a fair bit going on behind the scenesIf you go by Cal Twomey, we're not likely top open up a list spot
Brisbane, Gold Coast and Fremantle don't currently have a spot available, while Geelong and Sydney are unlikely to create a mid-season pick despite Harley Barker and Max King respectively both expected to be sidelined for much of the season.
No current season stats available
That comment by a coach stands out and at that level he is heavily tagged , it is another great read by Paul AmyI read the story about Mitch Mellis and it makes his performances for us even more amazing. He effectively doesn't train with the team and didn't even know the game plan prior to debuting yet has been amongst our best every week including a 10 coaches votes game last week. He is essentially winging it! An interesting comment made i think by one of his coaches was that (to paraphrase) "he rises to the level he is confronted with". He reminds me of Paul Chapman - combative, nuggety mid / forward. I would not have any objections to him getting a spot on our list if we open up a spot.
It sounds like the VFL is almost easier because the oppo puts no time into him. That comment by a coach stands out and at that level he is heavily tagged , it is another great read by Paul Amy
No reason not to open a spot up if he's willing to sign just for the rest of the year to prove himself.I read the story about Mitch Mellis and it makes his performances for us even more amazing. It's probably our weakest depth area tbh.Happy to let amartey walk if it comes to it. Key forward is the one position we have the most depth in. McLean and Hetherton on the list and in all likelihood we will add McCartney this year
