Preview 2026 MSD Draft Prospects

If Bamret gets selected in the MSD (hopefully by us) does this mean that we have had a player taken from our VFL program in the last 3 mid-season drafts, C Lord (Blues), Trembath (us) and Bamret.

Pretty good marketing tool for the best undrafted talent i would have thought moving forward.
Jack Watkins too I believe

SYDNEY chairman Andrew Pridham says teams that draft players out of northern Academies should have to pay a fee of $200,000 to the club that developed the player after the AFL's bidding changes were unveiled.

.....sure Andrew, you can start by paying Werribee $200,000 for Riley Bice.

Here's another good one from Andrew, speaking of course from experience with Nick Blakey:

"Linking the northern Academies with the father-sons and NGAs is devoid of logic. Father-son, which I support, is basically a genetic lottery and has nothing to do with game development and everything to do with the history and romance of the game, which I think is important to preserve."

Plus every Coates team, WAFL and SANFL Club they recruit their players from.

What an absolute farce - the AFL should threaten to take the academies away from the clubs if this tripe continues.

Hilarious, at least the AFL have successfully managed to pis$ off every club.

Any more detail on how he thinks we can open a spot beyond someone suffering a year-ending injury in the next couple of weeks?
Pulling the pin on Thredgold for this year.

So you think we'll even have a pick come the MSD?
Potentially, I don’t know what the club’s thinking is with Thredgold. All I know is there are a lot of Bamert fans in the club.

Personally i cant see the big deal if we don't have a pick

And miss out on the next Blamires or Trembath?

We need more mature depth. So we need to continue to take every chance at finding these role players.

Not really, but you never know what you could unearth.
I agree i just don't think there is a need to have a pick in it for the sake of it. i do realize what you are saying of course but unless we have a particular player in mind that we are dead set keen on in it its no big deal to me.

Yeah same. Strike rate is pretty low.

But from next year onwards, every club should keep at least 1 list spot open for the MSD because second rounders in the national draft will blow out to pick 35+ for mid table and above teams. Because of the new draft rule changes and Tassie.

So if you can't get 2 quality kids in the top 35, regeneration becomes hard.
