Position 2026 Rucks

Was at Essendon training on Friday and Blakiston looks like he will start as first choice ruck over Visentini. Bryan was running laps at good pace and doesn’t look a million miles off but would say he would miss the first month at least.
Need minimum 6 games out of Blakiston before Bryan returns to make some kind of coin.

There won't be that much of a drop imo.

It's more how many a specific player can physically get too. The fitter types might benefit. Or teams might just split the role up a bit, like Geelong do?
I think you'll see the less mobile rucks rarely push inside F50 with the new rules, leaving the deep fwd ruck contests to the 2nd ruck or power fwd. This way they can get to more contests in the midfield and defence without spending all their tickets. The more athletic types like English / Jackson will still be able to push fwd.

Yeah i agree and I think some clubs that have athletic rucks will get them to ruck in different parts of the ground so they can exploit the more tired rucks eg st kilda may have tdk do all the cbas and marshall back or fwd, Geelong might do similar with whoever their first ruck is plus sdk or neale etc.

I don't think I'd base any of selections on the new rule changes. All it'll take is a ruck to do his knee jumping into another ruck and they'll change them again. And again. And again. It's the AFL, they love changing rules (sorry "interpretations") every week.

I can remember we played the first game that they cracked down on holding the ball. Was a different sport. Then two weeks later back to normal. What a shit show.

Can anyone make a case for starting TDK if Marshall is likely to play forward for the first six rounds?

Can anyone make a case for TDK irrespective of the Marshall / King situation?

Got a feeling this could be the year for TDK to go to another level but the Marshall factor combined with the unfavourable bye make him difficult to pick
Not worth the risk with no preseason. Worst case you wait a month and pay like 50k more then he is now?

I agree we will see a rise in patella clash ruck injuries again and the AFLPA will start squealing and we may see them change the rules again . But I’m not sure they can they do that during the year with this particular rule. With the holding the ball as you say it is applied with an interpretation and easily manipulated . This new ruck rule is cut and dried, they can’t cross the line and take space until contesting the ball or the ump has to call it a free. Think we get a year of guys like TDK and Draper using guys like ROB and Witts as step ladders at the centre.
Reckon it’s possible we see less ball dropped at the rucks feet and more tapped clear to outside mids 🤔

I'm not sure I understand this one. Why would a throw up be more likely to lead to repeat stoppages than a centre bounce?
Bounce is random with two ruck options, take space and tap OR jump and tap. Ball could go in more directions and space.

Throw up same everytime. Only one option for hit out and thats to jump. Predictable and one likely clear winner who will tap to team mates advantage.
So like Crows play St Kilda.
ROB aint hitting it to no one so Crows would just man up and follow the opponent/ball off TDK hand and tackle causing another ball up.

Then its thrown up but ROB doesnt have to jump he can guard space this time as its not a centre bounce or centre thingy or whatever theyre gonna call it. reatrds.

AFL really are stoopid and a joke.

Dont believe me just look at Round 0 and Top 10 🤡

Jeff White has a good rep for these Ruck predictions

You should definitely pick Draper then :moustache:
I have, pending PS games & R0 .....has allowed me to get Whitfield & Draper, whilst getting a rookie off-field

IMO, combined points, I'm 20 points in front, if Draper can ave 90

If Draper gets injured ....could you kindly direct me to the closest cliff

Where have you got the idea Draper can go 90+ from?

His highest average when he has played more then 5 games in a season is 75.9

In those years he had 4-5 game stretches where he averaged 90 odd but also had games where he'd score under 30

He will be splitting ruck duties early days especially so just trying to work out where the over the top optimism comes from

Only reason Draper didn't average 100+ was because the two games he didn't ton up, was when he only got 24% & 37% CBA's respectively

Last year ...5 game average 91

He also kicked 5/7 goals for the year so wasn't missing points but again this is a 5 game sample size from someone who is 27 and been in the system near on 10 years who has never gone close to averaging 90+ for more then a handful of games

No doubt it's a risk .....but are you going to win the bickies, by playing safe like 90% of team coaches ?

He is in a third of teams not like he is a POD,

He has never in his 10 years shown he can put together consistent scoring over a whole season close to keeper status and will be splitting ruck duties again which will limit any extra scoring potential (he is also coming off a major injury)

This goes against my earlier post, and the history of BRIS ruck setups

Remember Lincoln McCarthy ....had years of injury woes at GEEL, couldn't get on the ground .....moves to BRIS and he's cured

Maybe the warmer climate suits some players with soft tissue histories ???
