Running defender , lock down mid sized defender , kpd are needed

Also need more depth in the midfield and kpf

Should be cleaning , Harvey , Stevens , Fisher , Scott , corr ,ccj

I'd say that is the starting shortlist for players to be moved on, except for Fisher. He has another two years to run, and is solid VFL depth.

Goater and George are probably both one more significant injury away from that situation as well.

Im hearing we are also throwing in our hat for Zakk Butters. Driven by Clarkson!
As l have said previously we need to throw everything including the kitchen sink to get Butters. Whatever other clubs offer we need to not just match it but beat it. If he doesn't want to come to us then it wont be through lack of trying. We could then be the destination club if we got him especially if we can continue to improve during this season. l would love to know how much of a war chest we have to approach players with.

He did mention him in one of his press conferences a few weeks back.
He did, but surely we don't waste another Zac on our midfield.

We still have Jorge, Hardeman, Goater and Urquhart...

I might be one-out but I prefer LDU, FOS and Wardlaw. Who ya swapping? LDU? He'd be a small forward for the Mighty Kangaroopoos.

You'd have Butters in the main four rotation especially given Wardlaw's relatively low TOG.

Sheezel would come up to around the ground stoppages off the forward flank with FOS taking that on occasion.

Butters' strength is that he can play every single role at stoppage. He's actually an excellent sweeper and front of stoppage blocker too and still influences games from those roles while sticking to the less glamorous aspects of it. Wardlaw/LDU are pretty much exclusively hit-to mids. FOS is a decent sweeper but can't play 100% TOG and usually gets put at the front of stoppage anyway.

JFC we have four top five picks in our midfield who will all likely demand $1m plus in time. And that's not including Colby, who will also need at least a mil.

We could use some more depth but that is an almost unprecedented top end.

The midfield is complete for star players and the word Butters should be banned from this thread.

Midfield is stacked with elite young talent. Confident they’ll be a top four midfield.

Forward line of Larkey, Bath, PC, Durs, Dova and a pressure forward can be very dangerous.

Our entire focus for trading needs to be on defence.
Another two way runner defensive-minded mid besides FOS/Urqy would be good round out the midfield further.
Blamires and Urqy can likely give us a chop out with transition run in regard to the midfield mix.
A strong 190cm+ frame (Robey type) would be another point of difference we could use in the mix longer term.
But we are likely to add Sam Harris and Archie Devine as draftees at year end, so adding that is not a high priority.
Depth added doesn't have to be high end pick either and could be undrafted (Bamert) or mature state league types.

But the priority should be adding to key fwd/ruck depth with Darling aging (Goad should fill the ruck/fwd role) and adding some further defensive depth (medium defender like Wilmot who can defend 1st and rebound or kpd depth).
Then I'd have wing (Stephens/Simpkin are ok short term, but aren't elite, Scott and Fisher should be exiting) or half back depth (Ash type ideally, Devine might add to this depth) as other priorities.

A small/medium forward with elite speed would be nice to add to our forward half mix longer term, but I think we can get by with what we have currently with Dov/Banch/JK and we'll likely add Jess Bula as an NGA who is explosive fwd/mid.

There is no harm for us in pursuing Butters or any other A* grade proven talent at any position. Even if we best case this season and win 10 we probably cannot entice the top half dozen or so trade and free agency players but we can help heat their market. In doing that we potentially leave other teams with less $ to compete for the next tier of solid B/B+ players we need to lift our floor.

Just don’t get the point of chasing jed Walter.

Our forward line is set

Don’t forget Zuhaar and Curtis are working themselves up to their best after severe pos season issues

It’s the makings of a truly elite forward line

We should be solely focused on defence as that’s by far our weakest line and to be honest, should be the easiest to address
I'm not against it, but I do wonder what that would mean for Goad's role longer term.
Would we be too tall with Larkey/Bath/Walter and then X and Goad as rucks?
I'd like to at least have a look at how the team balance looks with Goad in the Darling spot this year.

Obviously Butters would make us better. But it isn't a matter of that or whether or not our midfield is complete. It is whether or not another midfielder is the best place to invest. We currently have 7 or 8 capable or better mids (LDU, FOS, Wardlaw, Sheezel, Simpkin, Powell, Colby, Parker) and no AFL standard running defenders or key defenders. We are using our surplus mids to fill holes elsewhere. We will improve our list more by adding a couple of quality players in areas of need than adding a star mid.
We're also likely to add Sam Harris and Archie Devine as young midfield depth.
And Blamires can play in there as well. Think we need an elite wing/hbf and defenders more urgently.

"I look at someone like Bodhi Uwland and think he's the perfect fit for someone like North Melbourne, a very good player who fills a need for them off half back, out of contract end of this year, I think he'd be perfect for them and thats what they should be doing at the end of the season"

Riley Beveridge, AFL Gettable
Ah. GC needing R1/R2 picks this year to match on academy player Archie Hill.
Whilst Bodhi would be something we need, I just can't see him leaving GC.
But they are going to have to find the picks somewhere to bring in their academy players if they can't use futures.

Hopefully we can clean up the nepo and poor contracts baggage and continue building a more balanced list which seemed to begin more noticeably in 2025 (Thursfield bigger say?).
It’s all thursfield IMO……particularly our last MSD and National Draft

LOL. Kind of crazy hey.

I get where you're coming from but last year GCS midfield was complete too. Didn't stop them chasing Petracca.

Very different stage of list development tho.

I think when you've already got more-than-solid key defenders like Collins and Ballard in defence, more-than-solid roleplayers like Rioli, Bodhi Uwland and Wil Powell around the ground, a ludicrous number of high talent key forwards, let alone players with such upside as Mac Andrew, Zeke Uwland, Patterson, Ethan Read... you can probably afford to throw offers at whoever you like, irrespective of what position they play.

When you're still forced to choose the two best out of Corr, Logue, and Pink, to guard against the opposition's biggest forward threats every week, it presents a different set of challenges.

I reckon we'll probably see 6/7 or so players leave.
3 for the draftees who come in
1 list spot would go to include Archer/Blamires (as Archer is currently LTI)
That would leave 2/3 for new signings

I doubt we'll see much more than that, unless an in-contract player gets a trade.

SOLELY focussing on out OOCs:

Re-sign - Wardlaw, Duursma, Urquhart, Hardeman, Darling (looks to be triggering an extra year), Pink, Blamires, Trembath

Release - Corr, CCJ, Stevens, Harvey, Scott

Unsure - LMac, Dawson, Goater, George, Konstanty, Banch, Hansen Jr

LMac depending on if he wants to go around again. Gives us an experienced body at the back. Ideally would become more of a back up than he is currently.

Dawson - Erring towards the side of keeping him, especially if Corr goes.

Goater/George both depends on if they can stay fit. I feel both have potential but how long do you keep potential if they can't stay fit

Is there room on the list to keep all 3 of Banch, Hansen Jr and Konstanty? I can't see a world in which all 3 leave, but I struggle to see one where all 3 are kept.

Reckon you can bank on Dawson, first round KPD's tracking well normally get plenty of time.

Have heard a whisper from a very solid source that Darcy Wilson would ideally like to become a North player at years end. Still a bit to play out as Geelong, Collingwood and Melbourne all in his ear too. Highly unlikely to remain at St Kilda as he doesn't feel like he'll get the best out of his game under Ross the Boss.

Likely to get more money elsewhere too with Saints big money acquisitions.
