I remember Medhurst being interviewed during game day coverage soon after joining the Pies. Every moment it felt like he was a long time Pies hater who was now playing for the club. I still smile about his clear emotions. He was amused about where he was.
You don't see that everyday 😂

He’s out of contract, we’re not giving that up.
He could get to that price if he goes bang in the second half of the year - but if he does, he's unlikely to leave so it'd be all moot anyway.

Unless I've missed something: we went on record as saying we'll continue to take a couple of kids in every draft and that we felt we'd sold our first rounders a bit too cheaply in the past. Neither of which precludes using our first round pick in trade.

And a pick 3 key forward who is 20 years old is positively ancient! Get the man a zimner frame!!

195cm and 105kg is genuine key forward size no matter how you try to spin it. There have been more key forward Coleman medallist’s at that size or under over the past decade than uber tall 200cm ones. The kid is tall enough, built like a tank, the only question should be is he good enough, because he sure as shit is big enough.

spin? that's a silly comment. it's an opinion.

is he an above average athlete like a Cameron / Cadman / Caddy or have telescopic arms like Curnow? Does he read the play like Logan Morris?

What does any of that have to do with his height or size? All you’re doing here is trying to shift the goal posts of your original post in the most lazy way possible. Being 5cm taller doesn’t make him a better player regardless of his other attributes.

Players or picks is a throw away line from Fly. Picks are recruiting capital that get players either through draft or trade. Every club is going to try to get maximum value from their picks without a hard and fast rule. Sometimes that will be through trade, sometimes the draft.

2010 Blair was miles ahead of 2010 Medhurst.
I'm not sure about that.

In the first few rounds Medhurst and Josh Fraser were carrying us to victory. Both ran themselves ragged while others gradually built into form.

Glancing at the stats Blair kicked less goals from more games. He was brilliant as a pressure forward (more tackles) but I think even late Medhurst was superior.

I loved Blair, he was 100% effort but he wasn't in Medhursts class as a player, and Medhurst ran himself into the ground to give the team a shot.

The club comments players over draft picks, taking picks to the draft, having caps space for FA and recruiting veterans for short terms are all maximising the list priorities. If a quality FA is not available on acceptable terms I may rant a bit but don’t overspend and don’t get a jobber. If we have an unexpected opportunity and we did not take it for spin reasons I would furious with my dumb club. Things change. Some good, some bad. Mitch Clark says hello. I hope he is well!!! List management is very fluent.

haha .. Always with the personal putdowns

One was an All Australian the other a plodder
Malthouse conceded later he made a mistake with Medhurst in 2010
Go back to ripping off your clients and focus on that
You might need to go back to thinking about someone else.

So I wonder if there's any chance of Butters staying with PA for one more year to take him to UFA.
very unlikely I would think
Would need to stay for 2 (needs to be 10 years)
He almost left last year... I don't see him staying for more than this year., and don't think anyone in the industry expects him to stay.

Sorry if this was already discussed, but if there's any truth to Richmond offering Butters $18mil over 8 years, then they're bonkers and can have him.
Probably true. They can front load a shitload if it you’d think. But I agree. And it’s why I’m not interested in butters. To much $ and trade capital for one player

Seems to be getting reported over several outlets now, so probably legit. Smacks of desparation though, and reminds me of when we went after Treloar, like he had already made his choice but there was a creep in the background whispering “I’ll give you more cash” in his ear.

Funnily enough, missing out on him actually allowed them to recruit Prestia and draft Rioli etc which was the springboard for their success.

The other one it reminds me of is Judd to Carlton, they overpaid for the messiah, he took the cash instead of insisting on us. Will butters make the same mistake or will he go to the dogs and make them genuine contenders?

Mick conceded later he was unfair to medders

I'd be very happy to get him too. To me, it's worth having a look at his draft year to get an idea of where he'd probably go if that draft was done again.

Good prospect stull, but not likely to be top 10 - somewhere between 10 and 20 is what I think he'd be worth.
Geez... There are some handy players outside the top 30

Butters would be such a fine recruit. I dunno what's better, missing out on the A graders or paying too much.

He was a bit broken down by the end of 2010. He was a prototype Jamie Elliot, threw himself around on the deck and in the air.

Josh Fraser even more so, he was so skinny and he'd get physically trashed by huge rucks, I think he was playing like guys like Jolly (the year before) and McEvoy and Dean Cox and Keating and Ottens and Primus for years. He fronted up and took the beatings and won us games until he was wrecked.
