We don't know details about his current contract. We don't know any details about a contract extension. It's complete guesswork. There's lots of ways in which an extension now could be in Nick's financial interests and lots where it couldn't be.
I’m guessing they’ve told Nick that they want to extend him, but first wait until what they can do during FA period.

Bobby Hill has probably cost himself at least a million dollars across any future contracts (if he returns to play).
Jesus
He’s made a million dollars not showing up to play

Every other clubs seems to get out of their contract bind except for us.

  • Bulldogs with Jamara
  • Melbourne with Grundy
Jamarra was an extreme circumstance.
It was go to GC on a new deal or collect hus 26 $$$ from the dogs but never be in the AFL system again.
Pies were still picking up some of the Grundy tab. Didn't matter where he went.

Melbourne didn't have a contract bind with Grundy - we were paying a chunk. Melb and now Sydney were getting him for unders. They had a surplus to needs issue with him and thus it would have been very easy to move him on.

Butters would be an ideal recruit. Gives us everything we need in age, ability , leadership, x-factor
Unfortunately at what cost tho?
Port will match unless we stump up over $2M per season offer.
It''s going to take 4 1st round picks as a starting point if we have to trade for him.
We can't afford to keep giving up 1st round picks.

Agreed. He is too expensive for us I’m afraid.

Probably the wrong thread and the wrong time to post this but watching our KPP…

I wonder if the plan at the 2025 draft had been to draft Archie Lud at 51 but when the Crows took him at 50 we traded back and went with option 2 to get Angry
  • option 1: Archie then McCarthy
  • option 2: McCarthy then Angry

Our premiership window is closed. We need to build through the draft now and accept we're up against it with Tassie coming in. Sadly, number 17 might be a good 20 years away.

We shouldn't be made to pay all or any of Hill's contract. The AFL needs to free clubs from contracts where the player isn't training or playing for a period of time.
If there's an illness, including mental health, there should be a salary continuance clause where only a percentage of the monthly payment owed to the player should be paid. This should be applied for through insurance via the players superannuation scheme.
If the player is taking the p155, and is continuing behaviours not in-line with the clubs behavioural standards, the clubs should be able to terminate the contract completely.
If you don’t want to come to work you shouldn’t get paid simple

Let’s be brutally honest here and I love my pies but why the hell would butters Bailey or king want to come to Collingwood when the next few years we are going to be absolute crap.
Because if we land a few guns it will change the trajectory the club is on

Do you think Ben King sits there and thinks “they lack a big key forward capable of 60-70 goals. So I shouldn’t go there”?

Hopefully we have learned to recruit properly as there is that much list bloat that needs to be culled by the end of next year.
We'll have one chance to get it right if Hill, Pendles, Sidey, Howe, Membrey move on this year and are followed by Elliott, Long, De Goey, Crisp and McStay in 2027. Along with Allan, HDM and a few others that just aren't up to it.

Geez the doom and gloom after losing 1 match by 14 points to the the reigning minor premiers.

Retiring off and delisting half our list after two rounds to the start of a season seems like a bit of an overreaction.

Honestly curious as to who from my post in the list above in their respective years you would keep on?
I thought that was being conservative. Maybe favourite sons Pendles and Sidey could go on a year longer but the rest of that list have lost a serious step or two or will just be clogging our list in a Tasmania compromised draft era.

If you have high list turnover during the Tasmania compromised draft era then you are just replacing those experienced players with compromised draftees.

Long is nowhere near delist material. At worst he's extremely capable depth. JDG is not even 30 yet, why would you retire him off end of next year? Crisp is still on his continuous games run. He can easily play another 3 year. We barely have any KPP why would we get rid of 30 year old McStay. If we somehow manage to recruit better KPP, he can easily become depth give how long we kept Mason Cox as depth.
