I'd have few people full time exploring overseas talent everywhere to be honest especially given we have the money and I dont think AFL is hard to pick up. The one place in Europe I have been to that stood out massively for athletes was Marseille, France they have athletes playing sports in the street that look like they should be on a AFL list. No surprise Zidane and Cantona come from there and many others.
Good way to blow the soft cap!

Max Gruzewski (GWS) and Jed Walter (Suns) are talented key position players not getting enough opportunity at their current clubs. Both are better than Buller and probably West too. I think they're gettable, without breaking the bank. I'd love us to go after BOTH of them. And throw the kitchen sink at Butters too, even though I think we're near-zero chance of landing him.

On what metric is Gruzewski better then West?

Gruzewski is good at marking, and thats about it. He is also in his 5th year, and cant solidify his spot in the team, and in most cases, gets pushed out for Riccardi.

West on the other hand, is pretty much an all round forward. Good at marking on the lead or in contested situations, great kicking for goal and around the ground, and is very good when the ball is on the ground, and most importantly, has great footy smarts. Unlucky not to play more in his his year, and will get a bunch of games this year.

Walter would definatly be a great acquisition. Sort of a mix between Mihochek and Curnow, although well rounded as either.

I would personally prioritize our draft capital towards key position defenders and midfielders.

Serious light for key defenders and our midfield stock is still very thin, still needs lots of infusion of talent.

We have seen our forwards thrive with good midfield supply. Off course it doesn't hurt to upgrade our forward line but we need to prioritize other positions first.

West has got Gruzewski and Jed Walter's covered , easy pass on both along with Riccardi , will be a 200 game player ..
the one we should look at is Calsher Dear , omitted again , the guy has great hands overhead , footy smarts and needs continuity to build his status as a very good forward . Go for it Pies

Seems to be stuck in the same position as Ed Allan - dropped every second week. Can't even get a game with no Gunston.
Would be a good addition to our forward line. He may be harder to pry out because his dad played for them, thoughts?

That's the thing , his father was/is a well respected individual at the Hawks , but at the end of the day he wants to be playing senior football, the fact that he carries his late fathers surname does not gift you games .

Wouldn’t be the first talented FS the Hawks have allowed to walk out the door either.

We’ve tried the Irish experiment with some success and the American one too. Personally, I’d like to see some more indigenous talent at Collingwood.

But does anyone else think we should try either the Irish or American track again?
We shouldn’t be recruiting talent based on race. International talent comes through Cat B pathways or scholarship programs.

We’ve had better Indigenous numbers of late with Hill, AJ, Eyre, and Nathan Kreuger. Two listed this year with Hill and Prindable.

Recruiting based on race is an entirely different thing to what was suggested re: Irish & Americans

One of those Dagestani wrestlers would be the best defensive mids of all time. Tackling like we’ve never seen before. The more cauliflowered the ear the better
Send two, three years Dagestan and forget.

Come back, clamp midfielder like goat on mountain.
