Well making sure we get neale's signature should become our priority.

He has about 2-3 great seasons left in him and he has midfield craft knowledge that would surpass everyone's except pendles at Collingwood.

He would a be a great bridge leader and a fantastic player for nick to lean on once pendles and sidey call it time, which could be as soon as the end of this season.

He would also be perfect for our next generation of mids we draft.

Neale coming into our senior side would be like long playing VFL today. Territory is everything and he would help out a great deal in that regard.

Just a lazy 37 for Neale today which has probably gone under the radar a little because it was Morris with 7. So he's seemingly going as strong as ever.

Can't believe Nobes had 36 now that I'm looking at the stats 😂
Who’s his manager?
Would be great if industry knows early that he is coming to us and we can try to use it as leverage for King or Butters

Latest on Lachie Neale, Jay Clark said the Pies have been hot on his trail for the past two months, very keen to get him. We want to keep our draft picks and bring in the free agents (obviously). He’s weighing up a Melbourne move but there’s a lot for him to work through still.

J Riewoldt then questioned why Neale would want to leave Brisbane to join Collingwood, being that they’re contending and he’s their best midfielder at the moment. Jay Clark reckons the Pies can offer a bigger carrot to come to Melbourne, potentially a longer term deal (and surely very lucrative).

Need to get this done.

Why not just keep Pendles playing on for a year more?
Dont see what Neale adds that Pendles doesn't.
Lack speed across the ground now and Neale doesn't help with that

I have the exact same Q as J Riewoldt because arguably if he's open to living in Melbourne then there are currently clubs that are ahead of us in the premiership queue. But if its ultimately about a longer and more lucrative deal, then agree GET IT DONE PIES. Reckon it will be a significantly better decision than Dayne Beams or Daniel Wells anyway

The last Brownlow medallist that we traded for turned out ok … hehe

Umm... 5 years younger than Pendles (who can certainly still play on), an inside and outside mid beast, still racking up 35+ touches regularly with impact, hits the scoreboard, still one of the best midfielders in one of the best midfields in the competition. Costs ZERO trade wise, salary wise will be around the mark with Pez, Moore etc., and makes our team stronger instantly. Just read the last 4-5 pages of discussion.

This is not about Neale vs Pendles; Neale won't be taking Pendles' spot on the team.

The media haven't really cotonned on to our list strategy yet, which is really weird given how public we've been with it.

To have Riewoldt questioning the potential acquisition of Neale who will have 2-3 good (not just average) years left.

To have Corn say he'd take Dangerfield on for 2027 before Pendlebury, not because Danger is going better, but because Collingwood should priorise youth. Like, hello? Where's the selection integrity there? If every team started not playing their best players any time they're winning the flag in the immediate future, we'd hardly have any 200 gamers.

At this stage we have a clear strategy to keep our older players in to play rolls (not star), recruit RFA & UFAs, top up with mature agers, and then hope the draftees come good if they're given enough time.

There are also only so many Zac McCarthy types you can have on the list where they "might" develop into a star.

Neale is still a pure midfielder in every sense of the word and is extremely skilled in the stoppage craft, something pendles isn't at this stage of his career. Going to need someone with that caliber around nick as our midfield transitions around him .

He can play for another 3-4 years, 2 of which could/should be at a very high level.

Have to be careful here. Yes I would absolutely love him, but there as to be a limit that we do not cross.

Can't go too crazy with the years and yearly compensation.

Maybe a 3 year contract with a trigger for a 4th. For the first 2 seasons we should aim to pay him something close to the 800-900k mark, and I wouldn't be too mad at that because he would be in our top 5 players.

Have the salary drop for the 3rd and potentially the 4th year.

It will be problematic if we are considering offering him something close to a $1million a season.

Have you watched Neale play?

He's exactly what we need.

Pendles & Nick would be two of the most vocal about bringing him in.

What's Riewoldt on? He's heading south for family reasons.

Your analysis is excellent but there is no point of reference - we may have actually faired far better than most recruiting groups.
I’m surprised the media hasn’t attempted this type of analysis or benchmarking.

Apart from lauding Geel incessantly of course.
Cats should be lauded. Worst picks of anyone in the comp over the last 15 years, yet have still outrecuited the vast majority of teams.

I can sort of understand where riewoldt is coming from. Till now neale's ex partner and his children have resided in WA, so it is perfectly reasonable to assume that neale would prioritize a move West.

That being said nobody knows what neale and his family future plans are, they could very well decide to relocate to Melbourne.

So it really is a fluid situation, and one that hopefully works out in our favour.

His parents living in SA & helping out with him seeing his kids if he were to move to Victoria is an option. I've heard that mentioned in the media.

It's closer & less flight hours for him & the kids than him remaining in Qld.
