idc about kmac2 in the initial rioli call up, i was talking about when mansell came back into the side, which kmac2 was fit for, not that i think kmac2 should've been called up for rioli (mansell should've been), moreso that we went from playing 3 small fwds, to 4 small fwds at the expense of a 3rd tall



which means if we wanted to, we could've played kmac2 as the hff that we play sonsie as instead of having rioli in the side, which i personally wouldn't want, although i reckon he'd perform better than the sons did, and he definitely would've performed better than rioli's last 2 games



come to think of it, gray went in because balta was out, and instantly went out. fawcett came in because lynch missed and instantly went out. should've done the same for rioli & mansell although there's less of a seniority difference there

I’m sure he will get his chance this year at the top level. Not sure that taking a few extra weeks to ensure that he comes in with sufficient form and hitting his KPI’s is going to be at all detrimental to his long term development.

Plenty of players have carved out solid careers having started their early careers playing more VFL then AFL. No one’s development journey is the same and there’s nothing to say that over exposure at AFL yields the best results.

He also spends more time training with AFL mids than he does playing, so think he’ll have a great understanding of how AFL mids play.

Most of our players have shown something, and we can’t ‘gift’ them all games. Players should be awarded when they’ve hit their KPIs over a period of matches and not before. Otherwise you run the risk of a mentality of entitlement to play seniors and not earning it.

When I was young in the public service years ago an experienced person told me this about being promoted:

1. Plenty of people get promoted who shouldn't be, however...

2. There are zero examples of truly talented people who don't get promoted within a reasonable time.

It was true there and then. It is also true of AFL footy, as you pointed out in different words in your post.
