Has anyone else noticed a pattern here? It seems to be getting harder to bat as the day goes on. The combined three morning sessions have produced 2(tailenders) for 268.

The two final sessions have produced 14/194.

Quite a discrepancy!

how things have changed today. We still have the upper hand, but were not as dominate as we were at the start of the day.

I think the half hour after tea could cost us the match. Steve Waugh, who is normally a brilliant captain, put in a bit of shocker here by telling his bowlers to persist with bowling around the wicket.
Even if it Waugh didn't tell the to bowl around the wicket, he didn't tell them to not bowl around the wicket, which is what he should've done after the first few boundaries were hit.

wow the game's back on again!

India are now 4/376 with Dravid and Laxman looking the goods. I think if India can make Australia chase over 200 on that wicket they would consider themselves very lucky and in with a good chance.

India lead by 96 (4/368) with 6 wickets in hand. Laxman is unbeaten on 163 just before lunch day 4.

Unfortunately I can't see a tv until I get home but it looks like Ponting's bowling which is a big worry. If India can get a lead of say 200 which looks very possible we may still have a very close game.

The pitch must be pretty tame though and Australia should be able to post a winning score. Good effort by India though.

how are india batting for a draw. if they declare now, it gives Australia well over a day to score 200 runs.

India won't declare till tonight, if they're still in. Whiich, they way things are going, they will probably be around about 300-350 in front.

Should be an interesting finish.

LOL LOL LOL - I knew Hayden would get a bowl soon!!! His first ball got belted for four! Five dot balls followed. Laxman and Deadbat have put on 259 now - is that some sort of record for the 5th wicket?

well if india keep batting and get such a high score that australia cant possibly reach it on the last day isnt it a draw?

Visro, I think that's very uncharitable. To say that India are ONLY looking for a draw - really. What we're seeing is a game in the balance. Australia can still win from here. But the magnitude of the achievement of Laxman and Dravid should not be belittled.

Laxman now has the highest score ever by an Indian in a test match. From an impossible situation, they are on the verge of saving this test. They are putting together an incredible partnership, threatening to bat all day, and possibly ending Australia's run of wins. You portray them as party poopers.

Plenty of teams have tried to save matches against us recently and failed miserably. India has been dismissed as a one man band. I think that claim has been comprehensively debunked, along perhaps with the myth of Australia's invincibility.

The 300 partnership has just come up. And Laxman has just reached his 250. No matter which way you look at it, it is an amazing match and a watershed for this Indian team.

Plus - test matches aren't played like Shield games. There's no onus on a team to force a result. That's why they run over five days.

Visro:

Australia are still very much in the hunt. India are 278 runs in front. If we need 300 runs if 5 hours, thats very gettable.
If they declared at tea, give Australia 4 sessions to get 200 runs, thats committing cricket suicide in every sense of the word, so i think you were a little harsh on the Indians then.

Anyway, this has been a great performance from Laxman and Dravid. You just keep thinking, will they ever get out. They just keep going on.

Shit, this looks bad. Goodbye to the winning streak. Im not sure what the score was a stumps on day 4 but if they dont declare soon then we will never get that many runs. I have an idea though, throw Gilly into open the batting.
