Polec Anderson and Stevenson would make a world of difference to our engine room. We just can’t compete for long enough or stay in games for long enough without good runners like these.

Jed Anderson’s recovery from his own ankle injury is progressing well, with the inside midfielder set to contend for VFL minutes in the coming weeks.

Rawlings says Anderson’s training workload in the immediate future will determine when he returns to match play.

“Jed’s completed a lot of training at the moment so that’s a really positive sign,” he said.

“Given he’s missed so much football we’ll need to progress him through the VFL. We’ll probably look at playing him for a half and then move from there.

“That could be as soon as next week but he still needs to get through some solid sessions between now and then, but it’s certainly a possibility.”

Such a shame he's missed so much of the year considering his improvement last year. The sooner he is back in the midfield mix the better.

We miss him the most out of anyone who’s been out this year, and it’s not even close imo. We’d have won 2-3 more games with him playing.

Adds a totally different element to our midfield mix, going to be massively important while our young mids continue to develop.

His defensive work at the clearances and two-way running is really important.

If he'd played this year he'd have been our best mid or at least up there with Cunners.

Last year in the last half of the season he averaged about 25 possessions per game and showed no signs of slowing down this season. He played one full game this year (27 d, 14 t) had clearly improved and was our best player. (Some might say our only player that day.)

Welcome back Jedi!

North Melbourne is set to be further bolstered by the impending return of experienced duo Jared Polec and Jed Anderson, who will both make their comebacks from long-term injuries through the VFL over the next fortnight.

Polec will line up for the reserves side in its clash against Werribee on Saturday after three months out with a hamstring problem, while Anderson is likely to play a half of VFL football next week having also been sidelined for three months with an ankle injury.

Anderson continued his comeback from the ankle injury suffered in Round 3 against the Bulldogs, with the gun midfielder increasing his game time from his return game against Footscray.

Kicking a goal in the contest, Adams says the Roos’ number three looks ready to put his hand up for a senior recall against Essendon this weekend.

“It was always the plan for him to play a half against Footscray in his first game back and ramp him up to a full game this week in the hope he can be available for AFL selection going into the Essendon game,” he said.

“He got through no worries and looked like he was moving really well across the ground … he looked really good going through the midfield.

“There’s no injury concerns for him, so he’ll be right to put his hand up for senior level this week.”
