Apart from winning, that is :D

1. The match committee went in with a definite plan on how to shut down Melbourne. Playing Milburn up forward on Bizzel was an indication of this. Bizzel was kept to 9 possessions and had no influence on the game.
2. Bomber actually made some coaching moves that worked. After half time Milburn was moved away from Bizzel who then proceeded to have 4-5 possessions in 5 minutes. Milburn was moved back to Bizzel and the game turned back in our favour. Grgic was moved up forward and kicked a great goal as well as providing a target. Normally Bomber would leave Bizzel to please himself and try something like putting Graham up forward and moving Grgic onto Neitz.
3. We got the ball down quickly to Kingsley in the final quarter who able to convert.

Much of our problem (it still happened on Saturday) has been that we haven't honoured the leads when Kingsley & Mooney have led. Holding on to the ball for too long has allowed the opposition to flood our forward line. In the last quarter the dam burst and Kingsley had no problem taking advantage of it.

I'm sure you can add a few more things (like, King was given a break and hadplenty left in the final quarter) etc.

All the best,

The counter argument to this is that kicking long into our forward line isn't a sound strategy given neither of our key forwards are genuine marking targets.

Whilst we all hate ****farting around with it, i don't believe a Pagan-esque level of long kicking is the answer, at least until we get a CHF who is capable of taking more then 3 marks a week.

As shown on Saturday, kicking long can work, but only when the oppositions defence is horribly small (and weak).

Agree with the first two points though. The playing of Dash as an almost tagger across half forward was the single most pleasing aspect of the game.

It finally showed that Bomber does have some nous and is capable of finding opposition weaknesses.

One more thing........

I don't think kicking long every time is the answer either but it would be nice to see someone else apart from GAJ kicking to a leading forward.

And the other thing I originally though of but forgot ;)

4. Our intensity level picked up to what it should be. Half way through the third quarter I noticed the call change, we getting first to the contest etc. We haven't been that way since we lost the game to Adelaide at home last year. Let's hope we can maintain it.

6. Ben Graham re-discovered that when he attacks the ball, runs straight down the field and kicks it long into our forward line, he is a much more effective player for us.

7. James Bartel was brought into the side and had an immediate impact, kicking a goal and getting in and under the packs.

8. Matthew Scarlett played well at full back and showed some of the good form he has shown in the last couple of seasons.

I hate the way the Cats bomb into the forward line. Kingsley is fast off the mark, they got to learn to kick it to him better.

Better kicking to the forwards, more goals for us. Sounds easy!

I miss the days of passes getting into Ablett and Brownless. :(

9. Kent Kingsley finally fighting for the ball, and nabbing 2 of his 5 from the goal square after outscrambling his opponent.

10. Paul Chambers got more game time than just jogging onto the field and straight back off. With the result that he gave King a much needed breather, and showed that he can hold his own in the ruck against even the likes of Jeff White.

this is good stuff, perhaps you should do this after each game.

i can't think of #12, i didn't see the game.
