Don't mind me, just popping in to say what a stupid comment that is. How exactly is that ruining the game? Much more attractive playing style than your teams, or say fremantles, from a spectator point of view. Plenty of non west coast supporters have said it too.

Eagles play a boring style of football. You just happen to be winning. You played this style last year and put in some rubbish performances.

Dude yes. Ffs sake yes.

Hierarchy is this.

BJ > daylight > inanimate carbon rod > pick 70 next year > Skilton right now > The guy who does the socks > Towers.

Possibly not the time to ask - but is there such a thing as an animate carbon rod?
Apart from Travis Cloke.

Hawthorn were missing Frawley, Langford, Hill, Duryea etc against us
West Coast were missing Brown, Mackenzie, Duggan, McGovern etc against us

Every team has injuries, I don't like using it as an excuse.

Seriously.
No Buddy, Tippett, McGlynn, Rohan - no goals.

Today's effort was gutsy - completely outgunned.
There were patches where we finally showed true dash and points flowed.

No doubt the "razor and wrist" brigade can crap on about how we are dead.
But step 1, get top 4 - then it all starts again.
Let's see how west Coast manage Hawks and Freo.
Let's see how we go with buddy etc back in deck.

Perversely, I'm intrigued at how the club will manage this tough period.

I was harsh on Richards in the beginning but he did improve as the game went on.

While it would be good for his development to stay in the side, he will be dropped to make way for his brother. Swans will just think it's too risky to be playing the kids while still fighting for a top 4 spot. Next year will be a different story.

Whilst xr was beaten, he showed enough that he can be developed. Worst case scenario next year is grundy,xr and reid play back...im reasonably comfortable with that

I know others will disagree but at this point in the season I think we have to acknowledge we are not fighting for the flag and as a result we should look to the future. I would much rather Longmire use the rest of the reason to develop guys like XR, really giving them a go.

Give xr the second forward every week and nanka first ruck spot. Lets fast track their learning curve

One of those damned if you do, damned if you don't scenarios. Obviously at this stage, we are little chance of winning the flag but top 4 is still on the cards. Anything can happen if we finish in there (2003 final against Port anyone). Injuries could also hurt any team between now and the finals. I would agree to play the kids if we were just fighting for a finals spot. I just can't be convinced at this stage. The dream of turning our poor form around continues.....

I agree.

For once we did alright in the free kick count;18-14 and from all reports the umpiring was fair.
Just the third time since 2012 that West Coast has lost a free kick count at home.

At this stage, it's very hard to argue that we are a genuine flag chance but I doubt the club will be doing anything like conceding the season is done for.

Besides, the only older guys (guys who are genuinely at the end of their careers) who have been playing poorly lately have been Ted & Pyke. Shaw & Goodes have been two of our best and most industrious over the last month (and beyond for Goodes). We all know Ted will be back this week. Pyke might go out as it seems like Nankervis is is gaining the trust of Longmire and co. So really there aren't too many changes to be made there. It would take a large reshuffle of the team to keep guys like Brandon Jack and Xavier Richards (who both did OK yesterday IMO) in. Not saying it isn't needed, but given the number of times the side has looked shoddy over the last decade and the coaches have stayed trusting of the established guys only for our form to improve, I doubt they will start making wholesale changes now. Particularly as they have Franklin, Tippett, Rohan, McGlynn coming back soon; those guys will get picked when fit as they should.

We got lucky a few times IMO.

1. At half time, was hoping the team was booked on the red eye home as punishment. Calmed down by the final siren.

2. Largely (entirely?) due to Maguire and the current socio political climate, the booing of Goodes will not end until he hangs up his boots. Get used to it or try and do something about it at the next election. And kudos to Jetta.

3. Just wanted to be another to mention Heeney in 3 things.

Keep hearing this room for improvement , seem to be going backwards

That performance was significantly better than the previous week (although that's not saying much).

I had low expectations of XR and Brandon Jack - both exceeded them - they could make it.

I had low expectations of Nankervis and Pyke. I thought they would be absolutely smashed, and they were but they competed.

Rampe and Heeney were awesome. Shaw and Grundy very good - only the one (?) clanger from Shaw!

Smith played his best game for a long time.

Captains and Hannebery were down letting their midfield dominate. Parker and Kennedy had too much to do.

Rampe on Kennedy was a good match up despite my shock at it. Mitchell as sub was a big mistake.

Fourth spot is probably ours thanks to Freo beating Richmond unless we drop too many games. If we get our best 22 and peak in form in September we will be a threat. At the moment West Coast and Hawks are the best teams in the comp by a big margin (so maybe not much of a threat) but it is July.

Just have to say I was shocked to see Reid and Cunningham butcher it so bad in the 1st quarter, basically gifting repeat I50s and giving up goals. I've never had any faith in Cunningham's skills, but Reid has usually been more dependable by foot than he was yesterday.

i) Macca left his boots on the bus (as did Parker, Hanners, .....and half the team)
ii) Lloyd needs to make faster decisions.
iii) Goodes is determined to drag this team to the finals
iiia) Shaw played the best game I've seen him play in years. Rampe did a good job on Kennedy.
iiib) BJ deserves to hold his spot
iiic) Horse's coaching isn't the problem. So many basic skill errors.

Richards out exposed our defence but it was midfield disposals and turnovers that hurt us again. Not much a defence can do when there's an easy turnover in the corridor. The team needs to buy a big barn and stop doing cutesy hang time up and under kicks. Low and hard is the way.

I don't think it was Richards being out. In terms of pure defending, our defence held up remarkably well given the amount of ball cascading into the 50. But they shot themselves in the foot with horrendous skill errors as they tried to rebound out of defence (Reid and McVeigh's in particular were egregious) and the midfield were, once again, just completely torched by a deeper and harder running unit.

I think the midfield let you down not the backline forward line your midfield was near full strength and has always gotten on top of ours but i think we won that battle this time, I think Sydney is still well placed for another premiership tilt as long as they can keep a spot in the top 4 we know it's not always the best team that wins the premiership i think Hawthorne have hit there straps too early once Sydney get some player's back find some form and tell some home truths they should be up and about come finals.. 6 weeks is a long time in football and i am certainly not writing Sydney off yet,

Our midfield's kicking efficiency kills us. I just can't imagine the likes of Kennedy, Hannebery, McVeigh, Cunningham and many others improving their foot skills enough in the next 6 weeks in order to be a genuine threat.

1. Swans will never be a serious contender until they ditch this pathetic defensive game plan. Surely when you're 6 goals down there is no point pushing two spare men back? Should have locked Heeney at FF, Franklin HF, and at least given our midfield the chance to move the ball forwards.

Exactly right. Form changes very quick in this game. We have a soft end to the season, we head into finals on a 6-0 run and we would be premiership fancies again. All swings and roundabouts

Unless we're willing to leave players forward we'll never kick a winning score. As soon as we push spare men behind the ball, we struggle.

Are you trolling on you own board? 2nd highest scoring team and playing free flowing footy....

Heeney dead set gun and thought Shaw played a good game.
