Vardy and Lycett won 2018, McEvoy and Hale 2015 were good at their roles, not world beaters. My point is the set up can work, and we can go with 2 rucks with 2 tall forwards with the right set up

Of course, the other thing that allows Melbourne to play Gawn and Jackson along with Brown and McDonald and even Fritsch who plays much taller than his height is that they have Pickett and Spargo and Sparrow as manic small forwards creating tremendous pressure when the ball hits the deck.

that’s our problem, all our crumbing forwards are essentially resting midfielders.. Curtis will make a massive difference, he looks like a Charlie Cameron type who reads the ball off the pack and can do the mercurial.

Get him in Nobes!

Walker can give xerri a chopout
So can Chom and Souve.

Its a no brainer that these two Chom and Paul Curtis must come in. If they don’t, does that mean we are brainless in the coaches box?

Im just not sure what we do with X and Gold. One has to move out of the team this week. Although against geelong where they are a but slower around the ground, it might be plausible having them both play with Chom and Souve.

Couldn't we play X, Goldie, Larks and Chom and when they all "need" to be on the field at the same time Goldie can play as a spare a kick behind the play? And any other time one of them is on the bench then it's a Ruck and two KPF's.

Here’s these guys TOG stats for 2022 (I just made up a number for Chom)
Larkey 93.6
Goldie 81.2
Xerri 84
Chom 80?

So there's 61.2% of the game that 1 of those 4 is on the bench, that leaves 38.8% of game time with all 4 on the field. So for approx 7.75 mins each quarter we need to find a way to make it work with either 3 bigs in the F50 or Goldie playing behind the ball.

Not sure why we would be keeping X in at the expense of this bloke, Chom looked great in the Vfl.

Goody was huge against Swans playing in his correct position

I’m not saying X won’t get there but 2 dropped uncontested marks and little other impact on the game. Goldy can ruck all day. Need a chip out through CZ in there for 3 mins a quarter.

It’s easy to be critical of X for dropping marks as yeah they were probably ones he should have grabbed, there is a little to be said for experience and getting completely up to speed with the top level game, I’d expect him to improve that aspect, compared to last year he is clunking a lot more marks generally.

He does need game time.

I’m not sure Goldy is the effective ruck all day type he once was. How we manage the transition is important.

X mucked up a couple of things on the weekend playing game 17, need to persist. I reckon you can play all three of X, Goldy and Chom - Chom is a completely different player to CCJ so I don't see us having the same structural issues as round 1.

I appreciate X has only played 17 games, and blokes make mistakes. There is alot to like about X. I am all in favor of playing every young player we have over an older player (however this is my exception). In my opinion Goldy is a generational ruckman, and i would give him the opportunity to see if he can still ruck all day. I think Goldy still has a solid 2 years left... but thats just me and i dont believe that X has the scope to be a generational ruckman.

I rate Comben really high, strong mark, mobile and skilled, but more than anything he keeps his feet. I also think that resting Goldy or X forward is going to hinder this guys development. So really if one of Goldy or X has to make way out of the side for this guy, and i would choose Goldy over X.

I disagree that Goldy has two years and again I don’t have the confidence that he can still be a week in week out solo ruck. We do have to prepare for life without him particularly as (hopefully) his exit will likely occur when the kids have developed into a finals bound side. X or CCJ (or both ) need to be ready by then. It will mean we need to put up with the growing pains now but not when he’s gone. His role now can be very important to give a bit of cover and experience to x, ccj

i thought playing 3 talls ruins the structure? now we're all for playing 3 talls just because a guy plays well in the VFL.

Chom is a much more agile tall then X, Goldy & CCJ

R1 we played 1 KPF and 3 ruck-forwards, which is a bit different to playing 2 genuine KPFs and 2 rucks

We played 3 ruckmen, not 3 talls.
Get him in.

The coaches have to make the tough call between Goldy and X because it’s not working and very costly.
I reckon it'll be Curtis this week and then Chom 1-2 weeks after. I'm all for sooner though.
