“Can’t kick” 😂
It’s been manifested by a 2 minute highlights video that shows a couple of his explosive passages when he played midfield, where he rushes the kick under pressure. Then bigfooty ran with it.

He did this one kick running through the middle today which was a f*ckkkkkkn bullet.

His kicking style is so similar to a previously listed north player in Paul Ahern. Little bit higher ball drop but it’s a beautiful action and like Ahern, he can stab those 30-40m flatter bullets but he can also kick 55m with relative ease.

The thing that still stands out to me the most of his agility for a guy his size, he will turn players inside out. Which is incredible for someone of his height and build

Good point, he has that same high horizontal ball drop.

He is going to fluff a kick here or there, I’ve compared his kicking to LMAC, but it’s actually probably better, he doesn’t try to bite off more than he can chew like Luke does often

Going off one of the games I watched this year, I’d say his kicking accuracy is similar to McDonald’s but because of his agility and speed he didn’t get rushed anywhere near as often as Mcdonald does. McDonald tends to blaze away long a lot….Goater (when in space) weighs up his options better and is able to hit more high risk kicks into the corridor.

He took a kick out or two in the intraclub, he’s an interesting choice moving forward as he has the pace to get separation from the goal square.

However, with his leap and 6”3 he’s going to be a marking target in the coming years

I would go easy on mocking those that critiqued his kicking pre-draft. I was and am as big of a Goater fan as you'll find but the issue with Goater's kicking was his ability to make them forward of centre and under pressure - he's never had an issue off the back flank and when under little pressure. The kicks you've seen him nail in training and at the recent intra-club aren't new to his game. Something I also mentioned was from a technique point of view, his kicking is fine. In a full time AFL environment he should make some good strides improving his kicking under pressure.

A post I made earlier last year regarding Goater after he was shifted to a back flank for a game and Twomey dropped him out of his rolling best 22:

'Played back flank this week and had 28 touches @ 86% disposal efficiency (21 kicks going at 86% too)

Took a number of intercept marks, provided excellent drive from defense with his run and carry and hit a number of difficult kicks by foot showing a ton of composure coming out of defense.

No idea what he's watching but my view of Goater only went up now that he's demonstrated the ability to play very well off a back flank.'

We need patience with him but the ceiling is ridiculous with this one.

If you're basing his odds on those guys being available he's a 100% lock.

True!!

I don’t currently have Bonar or a Pérez in my best 22 or top 25 but yes those two are very unlucky with injuries!

I guess I’m think Goater may only be a backline injury or 2 away now, rather than 3 or 4

I feel like he’s the type of player that you look for an opportunity to play. Play him now and don’t expect him to be perfect.

the current best back six looks something like:
Ziebell McKay Turner
Hall Corr Perez

Perez probably switches out for Walker if we need a third tall or McDonald if he goes back there.

Perez has played a couple of ok games in 3 years.

I fail to see how anyone can put him in a back 6 with anything other than blind optimism.

who do you put in that spot?

At present our back 6 is

Turner Mckay ziebell

Hall Corr McDonald

With walker as the extra as needed.

Goater and Perez will get chances this year. The Burger Man probably not strong enough to get a go this year.

I think Perez shows promise, or at least showed it back when shaw was still coaching. But this obsession people seem to have about him even being in the convo for round 1, I just don’t understand given complete lack of playing football for 18 months.

There is reasonable expectation they rotate young players through the defence consistent with our rebuild.

If it ain't Perez it better be Goater or Atu etc.

Yeah, not sure if maintaining that aged cared home for limited footballers will be beneficial for us in three years when we're trying to contend.
