So by taking turner over wood (who played worse and has a hammy issue with low game time) - we now have a hamstring injury with turner, and groin with wood. Gee that worked out well!

Actually, no confirmation about groin, just say a post on here by someone saying they were at the game.
I'd say going from his post match interview there's no groin problem. I'll put money on him being in the firsts next week.

Wood’s new focus

Mason Wood knows he’s close to being recalled for his second game of senior footy in 2016, and he’s not about to leave that selection possibility to chance.

Playing in Werribee’s seven goal win over Footscray on Saturday, the athletic forward says he’s had to change the way he plays in order to convince Brad Scott that he’s worthy.

“It’s going to come down to that pressure stuff, that’s why I’m putting a massive focus on it and I hope he’s happy with how I did today,” Wood told NMFC.com.au.

While he may have booted four goals and pulled down eight marks, he knows it’s the other parts of his game that Scott and the match committee will be looking at.

“I just had a massive focus on defensive acts and tackling and that kind of thing so it was sort of a different game for me this week. I think to really break into that side, I’ve got to do those things,” he said.

“I just had a massive emphasis on those things and I think I did them as well as I’ve done so I’m happy with that side of my game.”

Wood is not the only one knocking on the door for a call-up to the North Melbourne side with the likes of Aaron Black, Majak Daw, Trent Dumont, Robbie Nahas, Aaron Mullett, Brad McKenzie, Farren Ray and Lachlan Hansen also in solid form.

“Blacky should have had more goals … Faz (Farren Ray) is looking a class above at this level, Clarkey’s (Ryan Clarke) finishing in front of goal has been really good and Will Fordham just outruns blokes at this level so they’re going to be really important for us all year,” he said.

But with the Kangaroos 6-0 and on top of the AFL ladder, Wood knows those waiting in the wings will have to be patient.

“All of us are one injury away from playing … we’re playing that well, that it’s just a matter of waiting for our time to come in.

“While the ones are winning it’s hard to come in but just waiting for that opportunity, I think is what everyone’s doing.

“It’s great for our club at the minute.”

Knocked the door down again rather than sulk in the VFL with his unlucky omission.

Turner out so obvious swap. Excellent attitude also :thumbsu:

it feels really good to know that this guy is kicking his heels in the seconds. The same goes for Hansen and Daw. With Anderson and Garner getting closer, we have backs, mids and forwards well and truly covered in the event of catastrophe. Durden, Clarke and Nielson, also fill me with confidence for the future. In the case of Nielson, I'm not sure why. It must be his name or something that sounds good because there's no real reason to expect him to be anything.

Was at the game with a Wood cynic tonight (cough Massive Unit, cough) and he still wasn't convinced at the end.

I suggested that there were 17 other teams watching tonight who would love to have Mason on their list. Almost a gun.

Easy to see why opinion is divided, though.
I think the mistakes were ones that any new player playing senior footy would have done though, just needs time to adjust the the tempo. His chance will come.

Wood made me feel better at the end of the game, in spite of a terrible game.
He is deserved to play one more game, but have to show more impressive performance.

That's how to climb the steps for AFL best 22 players.

1. Playing good game in VFL DONE
2. A spots is available by chance next week. DONE
3. Playing good game impressively on that game (chance is once) DONE today
4. Keep staying with good form next week.

Just one more step to go up. Don't miss step. Otherwise you have to start from 1 again.
Go wood

A little confused by the thoughts behind Masons game?

Had four tackles. Kicked 2.2. Had as many marks as Waite and Petrie, was close to stealing that mark at the death. Wasn't near the worst on and played amongst higher rated targets up forward. Also has played ten games. I wish all our ten gamers were as poor TBH.

He was above average no doubt

Seemed like he was just a touch too slow for the game today. BUT he also showed tremendous upside.

I suppose that's what you're gonna get from a sub 20 game player. It'll improve hopefully.
Yeah I think it was more to do with he wasn't used to the pace of the game than anything else, he definitely has the ability and as he plays more games he'll adjust to it.

He looked so happy when he sang for victory.
Hope last tackle and goal change him better instead of being insufferable.

Work rate was excellent, pressure was good. He wasn't utilised enough when the ball was coming inside forward 50 a number of times we could have got the footy in quicker, and he would have been in perfect position.

Dropped a couple of marks but I thought he played good for a ten gamer.

Mason could do worse than get some advice from Craig Sholl about how to play as a 4th banana forward - Mason plays with Petrie, Waite and Brown while Sholl played with Carey, Carey and Carey. Could learn a thing or two.
