Got suspended in the prelim for ruffling Tyson Edwards? feathers, probably cost us the flag in 2002, was thrown forward for the first time in his career in 2003 Granny as we had no forward line and struggled big time. MM rubbished him by saying his 2002 Granny was better and it all went downhill from then on.

MM still manages to surprise me!

Still... He didn't GI crazy over a $13 piece of fish. Lol. Still remember when Jason and Cameron cloke were at collingwood. Both departed at the end if 2006. Did malthouse get rid of both of them because if their dad?

He actually played forward a couple of times that year.

Other than the MM sledge of him, I wonder why his form dropped off so dramatically?
He went from a player with a reasonably good progression to being hopeless in a very short time
Cam was a bit the same, played a couple of good games early then zip

If people took a step back and looked at the big picture, I really hope there would be less calls to trade Cloke.

Right now - Cloke is on 7-800k... He is not worth that amount, and his current form is a big cause of frustration. But it is rumoured that he has only half-met his conditions for year 5, meaning he will still be contracted, but only around 400k. (a bargain if you ask me)... Only caveat to that is if there is a player option (in which Cloke should walk and test the free market) or team option (We'd be stupid not to keep him at 400k).

Trav at 400k is one step to having him as the type of guy we need him to be: he will still command the oppositions best defender, but is no longer our dominant forward - is to be one cog in our forward machine, not the guy expecting to always be the target, to continue to lead up to ground, presenting a regular target and creating space for other forwards, to start applying the required defensive pressure - and most of all he needs the right mindset and to apply the right amount of effort. A Trav who does those things, even if hes only kicking 1-2 goals/game is a bargain for 400k IMO... Its just now up to him to show the effort needed.

And im not sure how much trade value he will have... The teams who would want a switched on Trav will either be those pushing for a flag, but they wont have cap space to offer what he wants, and won't want to sacrifice too much to get him, or there are teams who have the cap space to offer what he wants, but would be cautious that he won't switch on when on a similar team to us.
If we get a great trade - go for it... I just dont see it happening... I just don't want us trading him for 60c-on-the-dollar.

Plus - unless his attitude changes, his trade value will continue to plummet. He will have trade value when he's showing the right effort... But if he's doing that- why wouldnt we want to keep him?

I think a little depends also on what clubs want to give up should we entertain a trade. EG) Freo would probably sell the farm for a key Forward. GWS on the otherhand may give us steakknives

As desperate as freo are. We won't sell the farm to get a tall forward. We tried that by getting Chris tarrant 10 years ago. Freo will get pick 5. That will gets us something. If cloke walks as a free agent, I am happy to have him.

I know the answer to this one.

Jason was a very good straight line player. He could read the play and was brave and excelled following his man as he lead to the ball or alternatively as a loose across half back. Things fell apart from him one day when he was playing on Aaron Hamill who started leading up to the ball then doubling back towards goal (Hamill was a very agile player). He beat Jason pointless.

From that moment on every forward that Jason was on did the same thing i.e. lead up and doubled back. Jason had the turning circle of the Queen Mary and a lack of agility for someone only about 6'3''. He never overcame this weakness and his career just fell apart.

Excellent analysis.

Thanks for that, very interesting

He was a one trick pony. Loose man who went third man up in marking contests was his only role. He was essentially a more limited Maxwell. Much slower, a much worse kick and much worse when one out.

If Cloke is traded at the end of this year he will have a 60 goal plus year in 2017. Bookmark it.
Would take about 300 shots at goal, but not impossible...
