He said this, "his form on Saturday (in the VFL) was actually the best effort we’ve got from him all year and if he continues that we know he can redeem himself with us for 2016 and beyond." How is that not a great message?
Please don't feed him

Lace Out.jpg

I have interviewed a series of former AFL players who I feel have an interesting story to tell. This is obviously a work in progress and I see this project as a sort of Open Mike on a shoestring budget.

It must be difficult growing up with the pressure and expectation that comes with being the son of an AFL legend. Tonight’s guest on Lace Out is former Collingwood player Jason Cloke and he gives us an insight into what this is like, while also discussing his career and the suspension that resulted in him being rubbed out for the 2002 grand final. He also chats about what lies ahead for his brother Travis and his options moving forward.

Thanks for sharing.......great interview mate.

My gut feel is Cloke will not be at the Pies next year. Jason didn't inspire me with confidence that this would not be the case.

I have my own opinion of trav and his position with the pies.
he's never been a reliable kick at goal,
he's a 2010 premiership hero
he has not played a dominant game for a couple of years
he has maybe a limited time left at afl level, maybe 3 years?
did you all see the players getting around him on Friday when he slotted a couple?
sometimes the body of work a player has put into his club is worth much more than his present form or his worth as quick trade in the twilight of his career. I couldn't give a rats arse what trav might or might not do at another club and what he could be traded for. this guy deserves our loyalty and trust. (yeah I know he's being paid a squillion to do SWEET FA)
to me, we need to reward the servants of our great club through thick or thin. (hey bucks, heater comes to mind)
FFS pies, look after this guy!!!

Cheers for sharing. Never thought there was much in Jason Cloke's '02 suspension, so was interesting hearing his thoughts on it. Would have won the flag that year if he didn't get rubbed out. Also reckon he was a bit harshly treated in towards the end of his time at the 'pies, Malthouse's comments that he was better in the grand final he missed comes to mind, but Jason spoke well of Malthouse.

I told my mum and myself that this would be the game Cloke goes big, as there was no defender even remotely close to his size (Davis has the height, but not the toughness) and he made a meal out of the defenders. Whilst it's only one game, starting to think trade-Cloke brigade were wrong (which I was of course a part of). Keep it up, Trav!

What did your Mum say?

plays the rest of the season like yesterday, there will be no chance of being traded if there ever was

Good to see Cloke play like he has some confidence. I just hope he is coached in a manner that will help maintain it. At his best he is a weapon but he clearly needs to be handled the right way - which after all is the art of coaching.

I love you Trav.

He was back to his best on Saturday.

Surprised (ok maybe not) their isn't more love shown to Clokey around here.

Confidence is everything. We all know he has talent, he has proven it over a long period of time.
If we get our structures right it goes a long way to allowing our forwards to play at their best.

Yeah, talking about Jarrad Waite and longer term deals in the twilight of your career NOT COOL. The only good news being that Cloke has trade value and it frees up cash to go at someone like Hurley. Maybe even do a straight swap.
