Yes this occurred to me that we would seemingly have a bit more cash to chase someone. I'd love to have a go at securing Hurley as our FB / CHB. Not sure what other key forwards are around to replace Cloke though
Yeah it's an interesting one, there's no standout options, Peter Wright would of been nice to try and lure home and cloke could of been used to go the other way to make up for draft picks we don't have. But given he just signed a deal it isn't likely. Few rumours to go around with patton coming home, but given the bad blood between us and GWS atm and lack of draft picks probably isn't viable.

I don't think trading cloke is a legitimate option without some sort of quality coming back, the club and in particular Buckley has been quite vocal with 2017 being the target year, going in to 2017 with Moore and Cox as our key targets would set us up for failure imo, maybe Cox can prove that wrong but at the minute we couldn't.

Hurley would be a great get, I'm not sure I would like to spend 800k to get him which is going around town would be a good move.

Hurley would be a great get agreed, but I would value him at about 600k, silly to pay 800k for him so with you on that one.
I think If we lose Cloke or decide to lose him, we could get away with it and probably improve IF we get a really quality small or medium goalkicker coming back the other way.
A combination of Fasolo, Elliott, Howe and and a really good small or medium would change the whole dynamic of the team and you would only need to play 2 talls.
In a real sliding doors moment I think the last time Trav was up for contract in 2012 had it not gone through he would have fetched a top 5 pick which would have delivered Jake Stringer.

It opens up some serious possibilities for both the Club and Cloke...its going to be very interesting come trade time this year
What currency would he have though? Wouldn't be optimistic about getting a first rounder

EDIT: you probably meant regarding chasing free agents

Yes, in relation to the Free Agency opportunities
As for currency, he would still be worth a pick below 20, wouldn't he?
For one or two clubs he may well fill a need

All depends, If his form continues on a downward spiral a pick between 20 and 30 would be all we could really ask for, the best thing for us if we want to trade him is if he comes back in and really finishes with a flurry and announces he is back in form consistently, then a pick around 10 is possible.
His age will restrict what we could get and his flaky nature means he can go off the boil at any time, any pick around 10 I would take and run.
So may scenarios that could theoretically play out here with the big fella.

Remember that we got a first rounder for Chris Dawes.

As long as there are two or more clubs who are prepared to take a punt on him (Freo + ?), and those clubs have currency (salary cap + something to trade) then we should be reasonably well compensated.

Wright would be an excellent get for any club, but do we need someone like him with the continued improvement from Cox? I know he's a forward first, but he strikes me as a forward/ruck rather than a potentially dominant stay at home forward.

With Lynch signed up now too, are there actually any decent key forwards on the market this year? (And Dave, if you quote this post and say Sam Day I'm going to come over to your house and vomit on your head!)

is it perhaps time we tried him in a different role ? wing or even CHB. obviously some matchups wouldn't suit but he would be able to clear zones with his field kicking.

Full forward for Freo?

He's not a full forward.

Yes he plays there some times, but his real position is CHF.

Thanks for the nice line in condescension Einstein. Did you read the post I was responding to?

Yes I did. My apologies, I simply took him playing Freo as the new role.

It's about the 10th time this week I've read Cloke at FF being mentioned in the same sentence from Collingwood supporters (mostly on Facebook) and it's hard wired me to respond that "he isn't a FF" since.

CHFs don't stand and get drawn into wrestling matches all the time. I think we'd all like him to play more CHF than he is!

I am still confused about how out of form Cloke really is. More I look at it the more I think there must be off field issues as well.

Just reviewed his last 11 games with the Pies. From middle of last year round 10

R10 Melbourne 12 disp, 7 goals 8 marks 3 Brownlow votes
R11 GWS 12 disp, 5 goals, 9 marks, 1 Brownlow vote
R12 Freo 14 disp, 0 goals, 6 marks, 6 inside 50s
R14 Hawks 20 disp, 1G4B, 11 marks, 4 contested, 5 inside 50s
R15 PA 13 disp, 0 goals, 4 marks, 3 inside 50s
R16 WCE Injured very early, no stats, essentially didn't play
Injured
R20 Syd 11 disp, 1 goal, 7 marks, 2 inside 50s
R21 Rich 12 disp, 1 goal, 7 marks, 4 inside 50s
Out for rest of season.

Then there are the 4 games this year where he has struggled and the team has struggled to give him ant service.

R1 Sydney 7 disp, 0 goals, 1 mark, 4 inside 50s
R2 Richmond 9 disp, 1 goal, 6 marks, 4 inside 50s
R3 St Kilda 16 disp, 2 goals, 7 marks, 6 inside 50s
R4 Melbourne 15 disp, 2 goals, 5 marks, 2 inside 50s

Its not terrible form and some has been very good to excellent. In the meantime we have Moore, whose potential I really love, having games where he virtually doesn't impact at all. He was better against the very weak Essendon but what about WCE in Perth. No bigman support in the forward line apart from Cox playing his 2nd game. We look very exposed without Cloke.

Don't bring logic into it.

If anyone's interested Damien Barrett has something on Clokes and also Swans futures on the footy show tonight .

You just defeated your own argument. He can't kick a goal unless we win easily. Look at his bags last year.

Interesting piece from Jake Niall;

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/out...t/news-story/e95a3845287ef85c113601327852cb3c

Cloke could be on as much as half as what he's earning this season in 2017.

Surely the Cloke family will seek a trade if this is true, they don't like pay cuts.
What that tells me (and what most people know) is that he's been well overpaid for his services the last few years.

Thing is with any potential trades, there really won't be much currency, the man is 29 with a few years left at best so other teams won't really be throwing anything decent our way when they can attempt to snag a long term player.

At least we will have some money now. Maybe we can start a war chest like Richmond has had all these years.

Moore has played a handful of games. Cloke 200+.

Your argument is that if Cloke doesn't get it lace out he's no good. That's a reflection on the player, not the team.

Cox is playing because he's competing, and putting more effort in than Cloke.
